Stayed here as we had a Christmas function at the spinnaker tower, great location easy walking distance to shopping outlet. Facilities all good gym a bit basic, breakfast was good but very busy, ran out of crockery, but hotel was really busy this weekend do am sure it is usually fine.
Check in on arrival was very good and all reception staff very polite and friendly. Our room was on the sixth floor which was comfortable but basic. The bathroom was a bit cramped and if I had been a bit larger then I wouldn’t have been able to sit on the toilet without my feet jutting out into the bedroom. No wonder it had a sliding door. No drawers to put your clothes in or clothes hooks anywhere to hang a dressing gown on. Wardrobe space was adequate and bed very comfortable. Cleanliness inside the room was good and had clean towels everyday. The room was very hot and even turning the thermostat down it was still hot and had to have the window open whilst in the room. The carpet in the corridors were not hoovered daily as there were bits of cellophane and other bits and pieces that were there from the beginning of our stay and were still there when we left. Altogether we enjoyed our three nights there on a room only basis we could have gone to the Premier Inn and saved over £100 for the duration but this hotel was quiet and within walking distance of Gunwharf Quays and the Dockyards area.
We were visiting family who have just moved to Portsmouth. We needed a hotel within a ten minute walk of their new home. This Holiday Inn is in a good location close to the centre but not at all noisy. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly. The only fault we found was the tissue holder in the bathroom only had one tissue. The breakfast was good, but the plates were cold (something my husband hates).
We stayed 27 & 28 December Arrival was good, pleasant staff. Have stayed here many times it’s not the best and I would not want to be paying full price for staying here. On first day three workmen/maintenance who work for the hotel arrived at breakfast wearing filthy working clothes they went into the kitchen then reappeared not washed or changed they then proceeded to top up the hot food trays with food and bringing in clean plates for food to be served on. Also one of the workmen then appeared with a t towel and then proceeded to clean tables with the towel when finished with the t towel this was then duly dumped on the food counter. I tried to raise issue with a manager but was advised that manager or supervisor would not be available until 29/12/2017? So onto the next issue, room un-cleanliness. Attached pictures show fridge and cupboard area in our room the others show areas in our bathroom. I would have to seriously consider whether the cleaners st this establishment really know how to clean? Normal room price is in excess of £100 per night. I would not pay this to stay here. On this trip we visited southsea premier inn and asked to see their disabled rooms. Wow what a difference, clean tidy and it’s a budget hotel. We need to have a think where to stay next time.
Excellent service by every member of staff Clean Fun family atmosphere Great breakfasts We loved our room and the comfy bed. Our bedroom had a lovely shower room and a tv and a hairdryer. The games in the lobby were fun. The bar drinks were lovely.
I stayed at the holiday inn Portsmouth and a guy called Aaron was soooo unbelievably helpful as we did not no know the area and needed guidance he went out of his way to help us find our way to our destination and even gave us a charger to charge our laptop as we were on a business trip and had forgotten our charger which was essential also a guy called William at the front desk was sooo friendly and helpful on our arrival and very efficient considering the amount of people impatiently trying to check in all at the same time, them later in the evening a guy called jack was on duty and he sorted taxis for our parents to come join us in the bar area to celebrate the festive season he also went out of his way to welcome them to the hotel as did Aaron they both made my parents who are very elderly feel extremely welcome which is probably the biggest reason I felt the need to write this review the staff are all fabulous well done the holiday Inn carry employing staff like this, oh also the guy in the gym called Matt went out of his way to help us when the pool and sauna etc was really full he came and found us in the bar area to let us know when the sauna was free even though it was due to close 30 mins later later he made an exception and said he would stay open longer for us as we had traveled so far, all in all we are over the moon happy with how friendly and helpful the staff we met at this hotel the holiday inn Portsmouth were with us we will definitely return and also highly recommend the hotel to all our friends and family all over the world
As we were going to a dance in Portsmouth we decided to stay at the Holiday Inn, Portsmouth. This was our third time. The hotel is in a good position, fairly central to many main parts of the city and within reasonable walking distance if you are able. Whilst we managed to park our car, it is like a lottery as it is nearly always full in the evening and at night, especially in December. The spaces are very 'tight' too, as so many modern cars are quite wide. The reception staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. Our room was on the 6th floor so had interesting views over the city and sea, particularly at night time. A good lift service is available. The room size is just about adequate, but there is only one chair and a rather large table which takes up quite a lot of room, which we felt was unnecessary. The room was cleanish and the bed comfortable. Whilst we were at the hotel the annual Christmas festivities were taking place which was good to see but I feel sure that the DJ was playing music, well above the legal limit. Overall this hotel is a little expensive for what you get but when you know what you're going to get, it's reasonable and in a good position in the city.
I had to go down to Portsmouth for work and the company booked me a room at the holiday inn. From the outside it did not look like a hotel in the dark; rather a block of flats, eventually I twigged it and parked in the car park. Tip, don't bother parking in the car park unless you drive a toy car as the spaces are very small. Check in was smooth then up to my room on the 6th floor. Generally the room as not too bad and the bed is comfortable, though the bathroom was tiny and the duvet cover had a number of rips in it (time to buy some new bedding I think). One question that did pop into my mind is why in a double bedroom do you only have one chair, is it a case of "if I have a chair, you have somewhere to sit"? I went downstairs for a drink and a bite to eat, I went into the bar and had a drink whist deciding what I fancied for dinner, I did take a look in the restaurant but decided I was not prepared to eat in there. The restaurant looked like the twisted love child of a 1970's eastern bloc medical institution and a deserted Christmas grotto where children disappear, basically it was a mixture of depression and sadness. Instead I ate in the bar, the food was generally pretty good though the rump steak in the mixed grill I ordered was like a piece of leather and definitely not the medium rare that I ordered. My nights sleep was very good and the room was not too warm. Down for breakfast in the restaurant in the morning, and the general appearance had not improved, though I sat with my Bach to the cartoon santa and elfs painted on the wall trying to block out the appearance of the room. The breakfast was good and plenty of choice. Though one comment I would make regarding the staff in the restaurant at breakfast, I do not appreciate being asked to wait whilst you finish texting your mate, not very professional. Overall I would not go there again if I had the choice, sadly it's not down to me as the company decides where I stay when on buisness.
Thoroughly disappointed with this hotel for what we paid. Room was very small and the cleaning left a lot to be desired . The comforter on the bed had blood or chocolate on and the wall around the bin in the bathroom was filthy. Not sure that under the bed gets hoovered much either ! Only good thing in the room was the shower which was really nice. The rest of the room was old and jaded and the mattress was awful. Parking was extremely limited and hotel car park unsuitable for a hotel of that size ( park at you peril as no room to swing a cat ) , but on the plus side if you park outside on the road, the hotel will issue you with a free parking permit (better option) . Do not put money in meter as you can’t claim it back _ Park your car then ask reception for parking permit. We booked this hotel for a nice relaxing stay but weren’t told there was a Butlins style party that night which meant no restaurant or relaxing bar area unless you wanted to sit and see and hear over 100 people packed onto trestle tables eating and drinking. May have been a nice evening for them (or not ) but it was night sat in hotel room for us . Location was ok....10 minute walk to Gunwarf Quays . To summarise, old, jaded, tatty with holiday camp style entertainment for outside guests . Stayed in better Holiday Inns ! Wouldn’t stay here again
On arrival the reception staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean and well equipped, even had an iron and ironing board. Very comfortable. We had also booked for the all inclusive party night which was excellent value and food and service were very good. Daytime bar service was exceptionally slow and the bar snacks were mediocre, not worth the price paid. This hotel is convenient for the outlet stores and a cab only cost £3.00, cheaper than paying for a car park.
