Traditional seafront hotel in a great location overlooking the beach at Southsea. Public areas had a dated and slightly shabby feel. Tiny single room, but nice and warm on a chilly night. Good shower. Good wifi. Breakfast was disappointing. Poor quality orange juice. Do-it-youself toaster. Poor quality coffee. Decent hot breakfast buffet let down by "just warm" fried eggs. Just an average British seaside hotel really.
We already knew that this hotel was really great having spent many reunions here. This time we thought we would try the three day special Christmas break. We were not disapointed. A fantastic food and service festival. We had such a brilliant time and ALL the staff went out of their way to make the three days really really lovely. This ended with me doing something I have NEVER done before. Write to the hotel manager to thank them ith some special mentions. Yes they were busy, however they still had time for us, engaged with us and help and ensure we were comfortable and happy The room was the best we have ever had. The nice touch was the Christmas card addressed to us and the two Christmas presents left for us in the room
Returned for our 6th reunion. 50 - 90 attendees. Ark Royal Resturant is a 5* venue with sea views just 50 yds away. Excellent service, menu and great food. Excellent Chef Paul Jones. Staff could not have been more helpful. Have also stayed many times on business and never experienced any problems. Congratulations to the entire hotel team. Highly recommended. Will return.
We have just returned home from an outstanding stay at this wonderful hotel. If you want to have a fantastic Christmas stay in 2018 contact this hotel. From the moment you enter the building and see the huge tree you know its Christmas. The three day Christmas package at just over £300 is great value. A gift and card on Christmas Eve, excellent food and a marvellous effort to decorate the hotel in the festive spirit. The hotel is managed by an experienced and talented team and the staff just want you to have a pleasant stay - always willing to help you and always with a smile. This must be the number one best western hotel! Its situated on the sea front opposite the pier. It gets full marks from me....give it a try.....you won't regret it.
I held my 50th birthday party for 100 people in the Coast Bar. We had such a wonderful evening! The Duty Manager was outstanding as were the two barmen and all the supporting staff. Everything was timed perfectly and carried out as my husband and I had asked. The hog roast was delicious and the side dishes were beautifully presented. The whole team worked so hard to make the evening wonderful and we are very grateful. Thank you to everyone at the Royal Beach Hotel for a brilliant night to remember.
I went with a small group last week, we haven't been for a couple of years because some people had a bad experience last time we went. We will never return as well. A plated meal, not even vegetables on the table to help yourself. Well the veg were undercooked but the carrots were turning up at the edges because they had been under a hot light I should think. Roast potatoes??? still white not a sign of being roasted!!! I felt very sorry for the poor waiting staff because they got lots of send backs from out party. I didn't have it but I heard the fish was disgusting too - all watery. Couldn't go wrong with pate I suppose and my Christmas pudding was edible at least!!! None of our party will ever go there again!!!
awful food - starter was melon - who can ruin melon? They can here - a pile of melon slices in rings, some sort of fruit jam and a scoop of ice cream in the middle of the melon pile - for a starter? main was bland tasteless salmon and boiled veg and desert was supposed to be lemon and lime but had clearly never been near a lemon or a lime. Hotel may be ok but avoid for any sort of mass catering event.
We could not fault the helpful check in team who were brilliant, attentive and helpful and Reception area and bars very opulent. However, the room was tired (despite the hotel info stating ‘room recently refurbished’), interesting noisy plumbing, loose toilet and handle, weak shower with huge chip in the bath, mattress so soft for anyone with a slight back issue, bedside lamps balanced ready to fall to mention just a few items- walls so incredibly thin you could hear the occupants next door. A peaceful night sleep -interrupted several times with a noisy generator or compressor that kept kicking in somewhere on the ground floor Breakfast was held in a fantastic room with sea view and staff really efficient- what a shame the cooked breakfast was luke warm on cold plates. What a shame as it just could have been so good. What a disappointment.
Only stayed one night but we will be back. Wonderful hotel, cheerful well trained staff. Hotel warm with no drafts, decor very good. English breakfast buffet excellent. Couldn't have been better. Location superb overlooking sea and pier.
I've stayed here on a few occasions on work related courses. The hotel itself looks quite dated but my room did not disappoint. It was clean and comfy, the bathroom was particularly nice with a large bath and separate shower. The check in staff were pretty lapse and didn't seem to be around in the evenings when I needed them. But other than that it is a nice hotel for a short stay.
