My husband & I stayed here for a week at the end of August to celebrate my birthday. We loved it ! From the complimentary fizz in our room on arrival to the brilliant staff. The Palacio do Freixo is such a stunning building complemented by the more modern flour mill adjoining it which is where the bedrooms are .The pool area & formal gardens which over look the Douro River are beautifully kept.Beautiful restaurant & a lovely bar area . We hope to return soon !
The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was very good especially since I am gluten & dairy free and they had sooo many choices for me. Also at the bar the first night and they were very accommodating and the food was delicious. We had a Jr. Suite which was two huge rooms and partial view of the river. However, the other part of the view faced a truck depot and wall. Not expecting that and unhappy about it. Also the halls are always dim and the room in the evening is as well. The bathroom is always too dark. My husband used the facilities, pools, sauna, steam room, gym and enjoyed them. The shuttle into town runs at 10, 11 and 12 and the last one comes back by 6. However the taxi is very reasonable.
We had some difficulty finding the location even with a gps but once we were there staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The accommodation was first rate. Our room was large and very clean. We didn't eat at the restaurant but found the bar menu limited although service was good. We utilised the shuttle to the city centre which was an advantage.
Nice outdoor pool, nice room, very friendly front office and restaurant staff. We were left two nectarines (fruit) in our room, but no cutlery or napkins to eat the fruit with. That seemed unusual to us. We did not bother to ask.
This hotel is housed in a converted palace, and it is truly palatial. The public rooms are beautiful and the service is outstanding and very personalized. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing location away from the hubbub of the city, you will enjoy this luxurious hotel located right on the river. But it is not at all convenient for getting into town. It is nowhere near within walking distance and there is no metro nearby. The only choice is taxi or car or hotel shuttle which runs only three times a day. As elegant as the main building is, the adjacent building where the rooms are located is dark and drab and a little tired looking. However, the room/bed were very comfortable.
very nice, hotel, it has a nice atmosphere and a good mix of heritage and modern comfort. our room was a good sized room, but without any view in the attic this was a bit of a downside. our bed was comfortable but the extra bed for our daughter was really worn out and not up to standard. I would also give a minor for the turn-down service (only 1 out of 3 nights) but then breakfast was extremely nice in the palace. Good sized pool with plenty of sunloungers to relax. All in all we really enjoyed our time here but with a bit more of a personal touch and when they fix the minors, it would be really up to LHW standards
A converted factory next to the new factory and derelict buildings. River view OK but appalling food service from the pool bar forcing dining customers into the overpriced and basic bar or restaurant. Pestana gold card holder not coming back.
Really a beautiful hotel out of the centre of Porto in an historic building part of the pousada collection hotels. Nice pool area with view to the river. The castle is very beautifull and has an excellent restaurant. Unfourtunately we arrived early (at noon) and we the free bus shuttle to the centre was not available anymore. We had a long but beautifull walk to Porto.
Beautiful place A bit too far from town the service was great the staff were lovely very helpful breakfast was great and the service was even better but try not to order extras because of the prices for extras were a bit steep
A beautiful hotel where excellent service is an essential part of the experience. Our bedroom (Room 107), our breakfast (more brunch than breakfast) equally superb and an amazing infinity swimming pool with views over the Douro, all made a spectacular 'stage' for a wonderful wedding.
