I have had a marvellous stay at Pestana hotel. We have been very lucky with the weather and could enjoy the outside swimming pool. The old building is so typical and beautiful. We had a wonderful view on the gardens and the river Douro. The staff is top and very helpful. Staying in this hotel was a great experience.
From arrival to departure at this hotel everything was just perfect and I enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The palace has so much to offer and the staff is very attentive. It’s in a perfect location and the views over the river are stunning. It was my best stay in ages. I want to and have to come back.
Great place to stay - away from the 'hustle bustle' of the central city area. Peaceful, relaxing, luxury. Most comfortable bed ever! I had river views from my room. It is 4km from central city area - but easy to walk or get free shuttle bus into centre.
Amazing, amazing, amazing. The hotel, the staff, the food, the ambience. And, probably one of the best Concierge teams we've encountered (Kudos to Paula Coutinho). It's a bit out of the hoopla in Porto, so a cab or Uber, but you can't beat how truly beautiful this hotel is. Go!
This was probably the best Pousada in which we stayed during two weeks in Portugal. It overlooks the Douro River, has a beautiful interior, excellent food and exceedingly good staff both on reception and in the dining room. Breakfast is a feast! Dinner was excellent with delicious beef from a local farm. The hotel provides free transport into town three times a day
We loved our stay, don't get me wrong. It is a short drive out of town (Uber works very well in Porto). The staff were welcoming and friendly. The rooms were great. Our biggest complaint was SLEEPLESS nights, by 03h00 the fishermen would swing by to do their 'thing in the water' revving their boat engines. It kept us awake every single night after jet lag arriving from Canada this was unpleasant. So, the great waterfront view was spoilt by this unpleasantness during your sleep. A question to the Pestana group: is it too much to put a Nespresso or else coffee maker in the room? This is what our offer of morning coffee looked like and it never changed. We do not drink 'instant coffee' and therefor did not bother to ask for a fill. The hotel otherwise is great but it would have been so much better if these to gripes were not there.
This magnificent restored Viscounts Palace overlooking the Druro River is a must do experience.Gives a sense of the royal residence in all its former glory. Accomodation is adjacent in the old flour mill. Great service and shuttle into town and back.Room service a €5 fee. Asked for credit card pin number but we refused. Excellent breakfast and light meals in bar. Truly 5 star for ambience.
Keep it up !!! Above all expectations.. This was a return visit for us, and if there were no availability at the Palacio de Freixo, we would have scrapped the visit to Porto. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
A must visit place if you appreciate good food, luxury and being pampered. The staff look after you so well, the rooms are spotless and the location is perfect, though just outside the old centre. Breakfast is outstanding.
A super good experience. Great facility. 2 lovely pools in a magnificent setting by the Douro. An exceptional staff. And good breakfasts each morning. Only critic - the beds could have been more comfortable but we slept very well. We will return.
