Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed the hotel. We had a junior suite which was well sized- there is a separate shower and tub and the whole bathroom area is unusual but great shower. The whole hotel is a bit funky and yes dark but it is unusual in what we felt was a good, fun way. Staff very nice and helpful; breakfast buffet good and the breakfast/dinner room large and comfortable. They also surprised us with champagne and pastry for our anniversary. Location is excellent for seeing Porto. We had a car and they parked it in their lot (RESERVE AHEAD) and never took it out until we left. Definitely would recommend as long as people know ahead of time what to expect as they may not like the decor and darkness.
We stayed at the Hotel Teatro for 3 nights only returning last week. The hotel was described to us as a boutique hotel in a great location. To that extent the description was correct. A few things to point out however. We had booked a junior suite and were upgraded to a suite which we were grateful for. The room was reasonably spacious and stylish but why must everything be so DARK!! I get that they're going for atmosphere but the hotel is just plain dark. The rooms, corridors and lifts are dark. The room was so dark my husband lost his hat and I lost my handbag. Despite turning on every light in the room AND the bathroom we needed to put on our phone lights to find lost items! Note the hotel also faces a main street and rooms on that side are noisy. There appears to be no double glazing. On the upside the staff were all attentive, there is a bar and restaurant on site. In keeping with the theatre theme there was some pretty funky sofas near the bar which were just plain uncomfortable. Asymmetric in shape they were so deep you were forced to tuck your legs under you on the sofa or else look like a toddler with your legs hanging horizontally off the sofa. Neither a particularly good look in an upmarket hotel. So some pluses and minuses. Great location and stylish hotel. Dark, uncomfortable bar furniture and noisy location. To be honest I think my criticisms (echoed by friends who also stayed with us at the hotel) are easy to fix. It's really up to the hotel whether they want to.
This amazing hotel used to be a theater. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The concept is unique and there is a lot of the old theater replic for decor in the hotel. A complimentary glass of Port was given during the check in. Breakfast was an amazing spread. The location was fabulous and walking distance to many of the main attractions. I highly recommend this hotel.
My boyfriend and I had a great time at this hotel. Wonderful location and super friendly staff that spoke English. We were in a suite that was definitely worth it! There is a bar and restaurant on site as well. We didn't try the restaurant but the bar area and drinks were good. The only downsides are the rooms may be a bit dark for some people as everything is theatrically and dimly lit and the fitness center is not a real fitness center. It is a bike and an elliptical; no free weights or other machines. That said, Porto is a giant hillside so you get your workout in!
This hotel used to be a theater, that had been converted into a hotel. The rooms were very clean and enjoyable. They maintained a lot of the old theater relics for decor in the hotel. Breakfast was an amazing spread! Also, they give you a complimentary glass of port at the restaurant bar. I highly recommend this hotel. The only drawback was it didn't have much natural lighting.
Our stay was different here than that in any standard hotel, our room was a junior suite which was vast. A truly 'themed' hotel, with accents of theatre throughout which made a very interesting and atmospheric stay. The staff were incredibly helpful in fluent in many languages, facilities were delightful and the restaurant superb. One or two, niggles rather than complaints, as the subdued "backstage" lighting continued throughout the hotel and into the rooms, it was difficult to see instructions for coffee/tea facilities and therefore found ourselves paying an additional charge we were not aware of. It was difficult to find power sockets and use any mirrors other than the main bathroom mirror, so a few well placed spots would be a bonus. Back to the positives though, location was fabulous and walking distance to many of the main attractions. Would recommend for a short break and a different experience.
This is a great funky modern hotel with helpful staff and very comfortable rooms. The service was excellent with rooms cleaned twice a day and turned down in the evenings. Breakfast was great with a good selection of items. Would recommend highly this central hotel.
Visiting Porto with friends we liked the theatrical theme and found the accommodation and breakfast very good. We had a room on the top floor overlooking the back - might not be the most scenic of views you'll ever see but it was quiet and there is a small balcony outside the gym area on the same top floor. It was a great location from which to explore the city. We found the staff universally friendly and helpful. There are some quirky aspects re the en suite as commented by some people but we had no problem with the arrangements and the walk-in shower was first rate. All in all a very pleasant stay.
From the descriptions of previous reviewers, I was expecting an older hotel so I was quite surprised that the building was in fact modern. Our room was not quite ready when we arrived so we went out for a wander for a couple of hours. This hotel is very central and only a short walk for the Hop on/off bus and numerous restaurants. The whole hotel is very dark including the rooms. It was impossible to make a hot drink in our room because of this. The bed was very comfortable and a quiet room at the back overlooking a quadrangle. Free Wifi in the room and a very powerful rain shower. Breakfast was excellent and a very good coffee machine too. We were given a voucher on check in for 2 free glasses of port in the bar which we used the following day. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant, especially the 2 very nice porters. Would not hesitate to stay here again if we were ever to to return to Porto.
Located in the Rua Sa Da Bandeira, this hotel has a perfect location to visit and explore Porto. The hotel is set up (like the name already say) like a theatre. Standard, but nice breakfast. Clean, beautiful rooms. Highly recommend restaurant for lunch or dinner. Very friendly staff who are always ready to assist you. Recommended hotel!
