3 nights in a junior suite (504). Very big room. Amazing rain shower. Roll-top bath. Evening turndown with a biscuit. Half bottle of port left for us in room on last night. But this may have been because it was NYE. Soundproofing not so good though. All areas in the hotel (including room) are dark. But didn’t find this a problem. Basic buffet breakfast. Really friendly service.
Loved the hotel (yes it is dark but ultimately very cool) and most of all the location, which is central to everything. Did not appreciate “attitude” during check-in process, nor the extremely slow and “snotty” service at the Platea Bar. In such a lovely city, what is wrong with these people?
In a central Oporto location, walking distance to all the downtown attraction and the central rail station, this design hotel is perfect! The attention in every detail and the coherent design are a delight. The staff is helpful and very friendly, and the sleeping quality very good.
Friendly staff. Super location in a beautiful city. Good breakfast. As said in a previous reviews here bad lightning and some strange interior design which is a shame because everything else was just as good as it gets. I would recommend bringing a flashlight for security.
This is a really nice hotel to stay in, especially during autumn / winter season, as there is a cozy and warm feeling to it. Rooms are clean and quiet, with a very good shower (heat and power), once you figure out how it works though. Breakfast is very nice, plenty to eat and not too busy, though it is a buffet. Location is truly perfect, walking distance to all main attractions and site seeing. ++ for the hotel valet car service, simple, easy and efficient (arrival and departure). Staff was nice and helpful. I recommend this hotel for a short break as we did (a couple of nights) in Porto (such a lovely city to visit).
This hotel didn’t disappoint...central location, design focused and amazing breakfasts (who doesn’t like champagne for breakfast). My one gripe would be the limited lighting in the hotel..it’s very dark in the corridors and not a lot of light in the rooms however not enough of an issue to not make me want to come back and stay here.
„Me and my husband spent two days and two nights in Porto. We decide for Hotel Theatro because it was close to the city. We were so t about the thematic implementation of the theatre theme in all hotel details; especially in the lobby and at the bar. You feel like you are behind the scenes in a big, old theatre. Maybe you can feel the hotel mood a a little bit dark, but it ain’t. Our room were spacious and comfortable. Everyone of the staff is that nice and helpful. We had breakfast included; the breakfast comes as an extended buffet included regional and international dishes. The only thing you should ask for is the parking situation. The hotel has only a small garage for guests so it could be difficult for you to get some space. Although you can park outside of the streets it could be difficult finding some space close to the hotel.
We stayed 4 nights, the location was excellent close to all the major sights and the train station. the staff were very friendly and helpful, good breakfast buffet (omelette well worth a try). The rooms were of a good size and comfortable. The but is the design over function as other reviewers have mentioned, in particular, if you have mobility problems getting in and out of the bath/shower combination will be a real challenge, if you are in this situation ask for one of the rooms with a walk-in shower (the showers are excellent). some of the chairs in the room and lounge are also not easy to get out of! The decor is very dark and really takes away rather than adds to the experience.
This hotel is in a great location - walkable distance to the bar, downtown, bridge, river, pretty much everything. The decore is a little dark with a theater theme. Looks super nice however can get too dark at times. The carpet, bed, and pillows in the rooms are terrible. The shower is absolutely amazing. Would probably stay here again just because of the location and the shower.
We could easily walk everywhere we wanted to go in Porto from this well-located hotel. Stayed two nights – a week apart – and the friendly, helpful staff remembered us from one visit to the next. Very good breakfast, too, and a voucher for each of us on both stays for a complimentary glass of port in the bar (where old movies, like the Marx Brothers, play silently from a screen on one wall). The theatre theme is fun, though the theatrical lighting does mean darkened hallways and “spotlit” rooms. A comfy bed and nice bathroom amenities – but the glass door on the bathroom area is a bit weird.
