Nice rooms, good staff, excellent breakfast. Truly excellent location!!! Yes, the rooms can be dark and dramatic. Just get over it and enjoy them. It's clean, they have great waterfall showers, you can walk everywhere. The theatrical theme is well executed. Spaces are nicely designed.
This is not just another city centre hotel. This was our first stay in Porto and we are so pleased we chose the Teatro. All staff were efficient friendly and not to stuffy-which is how we like it. The hotel carries the theatre theme off quite well but the interior lighting is definitely a bit dark-even in the bathrooms. We had a standard room and it was huge, well equipped and so wonderfully quiet yet in a central location. We walked most places but you are well set for the railway station and there is a good bus stop that can get you further afield easily. Also, the breakfast buffet was as good and as comprehensive as any we have had.. We would definitely stay there again if we came back to this lovely city.
Stayed at Hotel Teatro Porto for 3 nights. The exterior of the building is bland and modern; the front door, however, provides an insight to the interior. The door, from both outside and inside, is truly remarkably well done and fascinating to read (yes read, as it has lines of poetry on it). Building was a theater once and maintains the feel throughout. GREAT feel to the place, it feels as if you are in a theater throughout the building. Much thought and attention went into the design of the building and accessories and it works well, with one caveat: lighting is very dim, especially on the floors where rooms are and in some parts of each guest room. Staff was very helpful during our entire stay. A problem with heating was quickly solved. The hotel offered, for a very reasonable price, a private port tasting in the dining room by the sommelier, 3 times a week at 5pm. It was a great introduction to port, as I have never been a fan of it but learned there are far more varieties and taste to port than I ever imagined. After the tasting, I now have a better appreciation of it. The sommelier was great. Our room was large and comfortable, although a bit oddly laid out. A large bathtub was in an alcove separate from the bathroom and just off the bedroom. Bed was comfortable and there was plenty of storage space. The separate toilet area had a bronze glass door, not a very private space, just off of the sink and shower: odd. Breakfasts were quite good and included in the nightly cost. Generous portions and fresh foods. We did not have dinner at the hotel so I cannot comment on those meals. The bar area shows old silent movies on a large screen in a very nicely decorated space. Drinks were generous and the bartender very helpful. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and 5* for atmosphere and ambiance, .
This hotel has a great location and could be so much better! Unfortunately, it is not! Very dark, depressing, with a heavy feeling. No storage at all, and no outlets. On the plus side, it has good internet, and it is quite spacious. The breakfast is ok but boring. Needs more variety. Terrible view from the window but no noise.
Very friendly staff in this old city centre located hotel with Silvia at reception being a stand out memory as she was so attentive with our toddler Kai. This was a one night stay sadly before we flew back to Britain. The hotel is very close to excellent restaurants - we tried Cantina for a delicious dinner. Also, it is only a few streets from the market that is well worth exploring for food, drink and crafts. The décor of the hotel reflects the hotel name and indeed it was a former theatre! The furnishings are dramatic, opulent and striking. The bedroom had a large comfortable bed and good facilities. Dr James Taylor, Berenice Webb and Kai
I'd like to rate higher because of the attempt to create a vibe and avoid generic. But so many uncomfortable problems. Agree with all the other reviews- to dark, shower exit is a dangerous controlled fall, no storage at all, and no outlets. I continue to be mystified as to how modern hotels fail to enough accessible plugs. The hotel did have a friendly staff and good wifi- if you crawl around the floor to charge your devices. The problems would be easy to fix- throw on some power strips, add a dresser with drawers (there's plenty of room), amp up the bathroom bulbs and add a towel rack and grab bar. Could be a five- but too much show over function.
Wonderful hotel in the city center with beautiful decor! There used to be a theatre there, so everything still keeps the 1900s dramatic atmosphere. The beds are super comfortable, the breakfast features the famous Pastel de Nata sweets and the staff is friendly and ready-to-help with any requests. Bonus - it's a 5 min walk to the beautiful Livraria Lello, so you can be there before the queue starts to get crazy! Totally recommend it!!
We went for 3 nights for my 30th birthday and it is one of my favourite hotels I've ever stayed in. Perfect location, walkable to everything, the staff are really lovely and go the extra mile. It's cosy and theatrical style make it very boutique and different, which is nice. Super comfy beds, great rainhead shower, fluffy robes, fantastic breakfast with champagne available. I'd mentioned it was my birthday and they left some bubbles in the room which was lovely, and we got a welcome port upon arrival. Will definitely be back and can't recommend enough.
The hotel location was central, accessible to many areas of attractions, restaurants and shopping. The decor of the foyer and lounge was gorgeous. Room was nicely done and a decent size. Bathroom was large as well. bed was very comfortable and it was quiet and very clean. I would definitely return as Porto was amazing and this hotel provided all that i needed. Breakfast could have been better though but i guess that's very low on my list of requirements so it didnt bother me very much. Some of the staff were really helpful and kind.
We chose the hotel because of its location. We stayed in junior suite. It was the smallest junior suite I've ever seen and it was not comfy. We prefer mostlu the design hotels but we found Hotel Teatro's room design not useful. Especially bathroom part of the room was hard to use. Both the room and the hotel were too dark.. Location and breakfast were great but did not worth the money we paid.
