We stayed at the HF Fenix Porto for three nights in September. The hotel is nice, modern and clean. SERVICE: All staff at the reception desk and in the breakfast room were pleasant. The rooms were made up on time and kept clean. ROOMS: Very comfortable and spacious for European standards. LOCATION: Located in a nice, clean and safe neighborhood; beside a shopping mall, and a few blocks from the Metro Casa da Musica station. A taxi stand is in front of the hotel. As taxis were quite inexpensive, we often used these to get around. PARKING: Getting through the parking garage was a bit of a tight squeeze, considering that we rented a large vehicle for 4 persons with lots of luggage. I would return to this hotel when in Porto.
The HF Fenix is conveniently situated a few metres from the Boavista Roundabout, about 30 mins walk to the centre of Porto. Plenty of taxis park opposite the hotel, or alternatively the tour bus stops on the roundabout and is very useful in getting to the centre and many other places of interest for only €17 for a 2 day unlimited ticket. The hotel is clean and stylish in a rather minimalist way and perhaps a little plain in interior appearance - some plants and some brightly coloured pictures on the walls in reception would cheer things up a bit. The staff were all helpful, and the room they gave us was a good size with a large and comfortable bed. No hot drink facility though, and help will be needed if you want to use the safe - we struggled with it until reception told us that some rooms have the wrong safe instruction sheet! Some people have complained about noise from the bar and it’s outside area, however we only noticed it on one evening out of 6, and it didn’t cause us a problem even though we were only on the 2nd floor above it at the rear of the hotel. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of cold food and drinks. Hot food was a bit limited unless extra payments were made. Other meals are not offered, but are available in the associated HF hotel next door, or there are many more cafes and restaurants in the immediate area. We particularly liked the Toscano Italian, a 10 min walk away. The Convivio bar/restaurant opposite the hotel was also good for snacks and very drinkable red wine for 1.75 Euro a glass!
Check in was quick and easy. Very nice, large room. Comfortable beds, good air conditioning. Lifts/elevators took a long time. Located in a quiet part of the city, around 25-30 mins walk both uphill and downhill to the river area. Nice hotel for a few days in Porto.
Spent 5 nights here and enjoyed every minute of it. Easy walking distance to public transit. Very assistive in arranging quality tours for "out-of-towners". Great staff. Particularly enjoyed the complimentary breakfasts (though they don't view morning coffee in the same light as North Americans). Would have no problem recommending this hotel.
Very good hotel in the Boavista area of Porto about 5-10 minutes walk from the casa de musica metro stop which was straight from the airport E line. A steady 20 minute walk to the historic area of Porto the hotel staff where great for directions also for food recommendations around the area . Must mention the casa Agricole around the corner from the hotel great bar and restaurant happy hour from 4 till 8 great for a few beers after a day down town and a very good restaurant upstairs.
This is my 3 visit to this hotel in the past two years. We have spend a week in Porto and also came back to this hotel for another 3 nights at the end of our vacation. The staff is superb. Nothing is an issue and I would say that it is a major selling points. Location is next to shopping mall and excellent food market where you can get tapas type of lunch and dinner everyday. It is solid 35 min walk from the Aliados area and historical centre but we did enjoy the healthy walk. If you have mobility issues- there is a steep hill that you may not like- for everyone else is it great. Amazing breakfast. fresh and high quality. Rooms are spacious and comfortable but the bed mattress is as hard as a rock . I dont like it , my husband loved it. individual choice. Cleaning was ok. Total miss in a bathroom but well done in the room. Bathrooms need repairs and renovation in my opinion. It is ok but for 4 star it should be cleaner and items should not be that run down. Not a big issue but it would be nicer to match the nice room. My reason for not giving it 5 star experience is the heavy scent and "night club" lighting in the lobby area. Strange but very dark and weird blue night club lights in all lobby areas. I was there for a week + - it really got tired of the heavy ( and I mean heavy ) scent. Would I return there - I think so :) Overall
Hotel is very convenient to dowtown Porto and is walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and cafes. Staff very good with giving advice on places to eat and things to see. Must eat place is a cafe about two blocks from the hotel.
I had stayed here last year and found the hotel to be very good. This time I had booked for 7 days for me and my partner. Unfortunately my partners father became seriously and we had to cancel. But it was prepaid through Agoda. I wrote to the hotel four days in advance and explained the situation and wondered if under the circumstances I could change my dates or even a part refund. The hotel told me to contact Agoda who referred me back to hotel as the " refund" was up to the hotel. No further response was forthcoming from the hotel. They just ignored my second email. I had prepaid over €800 .. the hotel could resell the room.. so no loss except for me. Even Ryan Air allowed me change my dates. I travel a lot. A hotel which operate this shabby type of customer service is not worthy of my support. I write the review to warn others to beware of what you are dealing with when you book here.. my advice " if in doubt try elsewhere"
Lovely modern hotel and very clean, spacious room. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, both hot and cold and regularly replenished. We had very few coat hangers, but Sandra, our room cleaner went out of her way to find extra ones for us and our friends.
All in all a good hotel approx 1 km from downtown Porto - good facilities eg. parking in the basement. We had breakfast and it is a good one. The rooms are also good, however, the safe in the room is VERY small, cannot contain a tablet, eg. iPad -
