Loved out weekend at The Manor on Golden Pond. Everything was as I had hoped it would be. We stayed in the Churchill Room which was beautiful. Retaining the original charm but with every attention to detail, we especially enjoyed the stunning views and real wood burning fireplace. it was quiet which is important to me. The rest of the Inn is gorgeous with its warm woods, real fireplaces, and cozy nooks. The food was delicious - both the cooked to order breakfasts and the dinner we had beside a cozy fire. Every staff member there is warm and friendly - felt like we were visiting friends. It was a perfect winter weekend getaway - so cozy and relaxing!!
We had a lovely relaxing stay at the Manor at Golden Pond. Our room the Winsor had a fabulous view of the lake and the mountains. It was wonderful having a fireplace. We dined at the restaurant and were very impressed. The shrimp appetizer could have been a meal on its' own. The steak and lamb entrees were great and the chocolate mouse to die for. The innkeepers were very friendly and accommodating. It was old nice to have the spa services available.
I played hooky from work to enjoy the outdoors on a beautiful winter day last week. I did some research on line and found the Manor on Golden Pond...and what a find it was. This is the quintessential New England Inn, very cozy and comfortable spaces, super clean and a very friendly and accommodating innkeeper. I particularly enjoyed the wood burning fireplace in my bedroom. Thank you for making my visit to Holderness so enjoyable.
My favorite thing about this inn was all the REAL fireplaces everywhere instead of gas fireplaces. The lobby has fires, as do the dining rooms, and many bedrooms. They were all lit much of the time which created a wonderful ambiance as well as warmth during below 0 temperatures outside. The cooked breakfast was delicious-lots of choices from a menu plus Keurig coffee pots in your room and in the lobby all morning. We celebrated New Year's Eve dinner in a wonderful dining space that was all decorated including balloons, confetti and Happy New Year's hats and tiaras-very festive. The 7 course meal was delicious-a small course or two arrived a little cool but they were incredibly busy so it was not the end of the world. The piano playing was wonderful. Our family had two rooms and we enjoyed the common rooms and afternoon tea each day. Alan gave us helpful advice on hikes and restaurants. It was extremely cold out so we only did a short 15 minute walk in and out to Squam Lake from a nature park about 10 min drive from the hotel-perfect given the conditions, and very pretty. Our room, Churchill, had icicles hanging from the roof line--quite dramatic and beautiful. Two people in our group had massages. The massage therapist was terrific. I might suggest that the waiting room be made a little more spa-like--it had a gas fire, but a stiff sofa and bar table/chairs. Perhaps some candles, soft music, dimmer lighting and more comfy sofa would do the trick. We each waited in that room for the other's person treatment to be over and it wasn't a particularly relaxing space. Would have been better to wait in the main hotel lobby. A great weekend of winter fun-highly recommend. This is not an inexpensive property but we felt it was worth what we spent.
The inn did not notify me that a wedding event would be taking place in the common areas during the evening of my one night stay, rendering those spaces packed, noisy and impossible to use as a place to unwind or relax. Furnishings in the Yorkshire room are a bit tired and beaten up. The candles by the bathtub are the kind from a 1970s Italian restaurant. Flaky wifi dropped me every few minutes. Nicely decorated bar.
Great venue. Classic site with fabulous view of Squam Lake, elegant common area and rooms, afternoon tea and tremendous food. Lamb was to die for. Hosts and staff very accomodating. Best view in Churchill room, with fireplace and whirlpool tub. Perfect for winter getaway. Only blip was dinner service. Had a large Christmas party in event room and service essentially stopped in restaurant while that party was served dinner. Long wait for entree. Should have had separate staff for party and restaurant.
Squam Lake is truly beautiful, nature at its best. Property owners hide their cabins from the lake; the surrounding mountain land has been saved from development. We had our own patio with chair/lounge.The Inn itself was originally built as a Mansion and has exquisite detailing in the public rooms. We really enjoyed our 3 nights stay in the Stratford Room (King, fireplace, lake view). The heating and A/C worked very well. Very comfortable, high end bedding. We were there when the leaves were beautiful, Oct 21-24, 2017. The food is very good at the Inn, although we went to Lake Winnipesakee for dinner at Lago 1 night, which was excellent. The couple that runs the Inn is really dedicated to keeping the "feel" of a British-inspired home. They are very helpful at helping with things to do. Our boat ride on the Squam Lake was wonderful. The Science Center was already shut down for the season, so we went with Cindy from Experience Squam, which the Inn set up for us. She was extremely informative and friendly. We also went to "The Castle in the Sky" built by another early 20thc. millionaire. Beautiful drive, hike and house, with amazing views. We also took a hike in the Chamberlain-Reynolds preserve.
We stayed in the Avon room and I highly recommend this room for a couple looking for a bit of privacy. It is located on the third story by itself and is absolutely beautiful. Photos do not do the room justice. The room has an ambiance to it that is very romantic and relaxing. My husband and I stayed two nights. The bed and sheets were very comfortable, the room was dark for sleeping, and the fireplace was a perfect place to snuggle up. We stayed in late October and even though we wanted to run the fireplace some, when we got warm the A.C. worked great. The room was quiet. The Jacuzzi was an additional bonus complete with candles, wine glasses in room, and turn down service with a treat. The room was incredibly clean and I have very high standards when it comes to this. The Avon room does not have as much of a viee but we didnt mind since we went outside if we wanted to enjoy the scenery. The privacy of this room more than made up for not having a balcony. The staff was helpful but not intrusive. The food at the restaurant was great. The breakfast that is included is outstanding. Dinner is luxurious but a bit pricey. Great for a nice evening. The main area has so much history and is very welcoming. We enjoyed the amenities such as cider and coffee served throughout the place. The cable and Netflix also worked well when we wanted to watch a movie one evening. Can't recommend this place enough. I don't normally take time to write reviews as a busy mom of little ones, but I wanted to thank the Manor on Golden for the great experience.
We enjoyed our stay here in late October 2017. The property and grounds are beautifully maintained. The staff were very helpful. We didn't have dinner at The Manor, just breakfast which was excellent. Excellent, fast service and great food! The room (Stratford) was lovely, many amenities along with a log fireplace. The views of the lake were gorgeous! I would highly recommend staying at The Manor.
We were looking for a one night romantic getaway to celebrate our anniversary. Fortunately we were able to secure a room at this lovely inn. Gorgeous setting with views of Squam Lake. Our room had everything you could ever ask for, including jacuzzi, fireplace, flat screen tv, deck, coffeemaker, and plenty of seating. Dinner was elegant and delicious. Same goes for breakfast. Innkeepers were very charming and helpful. We will be back!
