Nice area but hotel is not the same. I stayed here once before. The view is spectacular but couldn't sit on the balcony for the spider webs and the stained balcony floor. We stayed in a suite with a kitchenette, living room, bedroom. The place was not cleaned properly. Housekeeping lacking. There was an empty container in the kitchen cabinet and a cup behind the table in the living room area. The freezer in the refrigerator need defrosting. The supplies in the kitchen are limited. I pulled back the bed and noticed the linen was stained. Called down to the front desk and explained the problem and was told someone would come to change the bed. 2 hours later I went downstairs to ask about housekeeping service. As I approached the front desk the rep was taking a coffee pot to another guest and I was told she would be right back. When she returned I told her I was the one who called about the stained sheets. Kim, the manager, told me that she would take care of it or the person coming in after her would. Really! This is a one person operation because Kim came up to change the sheets, told me they weren't dirty they were just stained. I told her I wasn't sleeping on them and she needed to remove those sheets from inventory. Kim told me they do their own laundry and don't have commercial washers. This could be the problem because I am sure they don't wash one sheet at a time. After the sheets were changed, the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean but the towels were tattered. No pool, no exercise room. No beach. Breakfast was limited. There was a waffle maker. Chose to have a prepackage muffin. For the price of the rooms I was disappointed. Good points- restaurant next door and scenic view.
The view is amazing! But there's not much to do in Piney point, and we expected to be able to go on a kayak ride, a bike ride... When we first got there, we asked about that and they said they didn't do that. Lo and behold, in the garage there was a kayak and A bunch of bikes. I'm wondering if it's because the staff didn't want to work. One of them asked my husband "what do you want now?" One was texting so much! Ding! Ding! Every time her text went off! The vents were filthy and if you're prone to respiratory issues that might be an issue. There were spiders all over the balcony and those chairs, even tho they look cool... They're not comfortable. This place has so much potential to be awesome!!!
Another awesome time at Piney Point. Island Inn and Suites. Great Getaway for us, every visit. Also great food next door at Roddy Duck. Can't go wrong here. Clean, fresh, excellent staff. Never any problems.
Enjoyed a weekend of fun with family and friends. Rooms were nice and spacious overlooking the Potomac with a comfortable balcony. Location is in beautiful Southern Maryland and making it a wonderful weekend getaway. Flies in the room were a bit annoying but it may be the time of year for them. The hotel housekeeping service was horrible. Towels and sheets worn, rooms not vacuumed, we could clearly tell the furniture is never dusted and housekeeping staff wanted to clean rooms while we were in the room just waking up at 8:30am. When I asked them to come back in an hour they said they don't come back and motioned for me to take whatever I wanted off of the cart in the hallway. Wouldn't eat the complimentary breakfast after seeing the waffle mix was prepared in the men's restroom and the mixing spoon left on the counter in as customers used the restroom. Ruddy Duck Restaurant on the property was outstanding with wonderful service and a family friendly atmosphere. Hope the hotel can fix their housekeeping and front desk services because the location is a jewel in the rough.
If you're looking for crazy nightlife, this is NOT your spot. However, if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing time away you have to check this place out. We needed a weekend to chill out and couldn't have done better. We were on the east side of the hotel so we had beautiful sunrises and the St Mary's river lapping right below our balcony. We visited Historic St Mary's Village thoroughly enjoyed dinner at the Ruddy Duck. Believe me, my husband had to drag me kicking and screaming when it was time to leave!
We come here three or four times a year to enjoy the quiet and try our hand at fishing and crabbing. Reasonable rates, refrigerator and microwave, and a wonderful view from the deck never fail to please us. Staff is friendly and helpful and breakfast has gotten better over the years.
If you bring a portable hammock you can relax in the sun and enjoy the breeze. The fishing pier is next to the hotel. A wonderful place for relaxation and quiet. We did catch some fish and enjoyed the time at the pier. I live in Maryland and this was my first time here. This place is way different from the hustle and traffic of DC.
Accidentally happened upon this hotel as all other hotels in and around SCMC were booked this week for some reason (it's only a 22min drive to campus). Located on the peninsula between Piney Point and St. George's Island, this hotel is all about location location location. It really is a hidden gem and as a life-long Marylander, the location showcases the beauty of the mid-Atlantic coastal area and the Chesapeake Bay. It's a fisherman's delight and as we drove in crossing the bridge we saw lots of anglers enjoying a hot Sunday afternoon. There does not appear to be a bad room in this hotel. As others have said, you have views from every room - either of the Potomac River or the St. George's Creek aka St. Mary's river. We are in a suite on the odd side of the hotel which faces the front of the hotel with views of the Potomac. The view is absolutely incredible. It's the perfect place for me to work from during the day (I WISH my DC office had such views). There is more than enough room in the suite for a family 6-7. One room has a queen and the other a king. I must admit the pullout sofa looks very worn and needs to be replaced - I am glad we did not have to use it. The bathroom is large and to be honest it is large enough where they could have put in a double vanity and a very nice upscale shower for 2; however, it is adequate. My only disappointments were that 1. the skimp on the towels and the white towels were a little dingy. There were only 2 sets of towels and in a suite for 6 and you automatically expect more; 2. The room was not as clean as it should be. We pulled the sofabed from the wall to access an outlet receptacle and found bottle top, top from a yogurt, the trash bin in the mini-kitchen underneath the sink had not been emptied and when changing the bathroom trash we found a used toilet roll after taking the trash bag out. There is quite a bit of noise coming from the suite above us, so ask for the top floor if you have an option. We took the last room available for the week - so it wasn't an option for us. The beds are adequate and firm - not pillow-tops. The suite was nicely decorated but some of the end/side tables are showing wear and are not being attended to - lots of water/drinks spot/stains. There is a small continental breakfast in the mornings. Nothing to rave about, BUT because there are no restaurants close by, it's very nice that you have coffee, teas, bagels a few muffins, cold cereal, etc.
A beautiful place to stay if you are looking to relax, enjoy the sounds of the water, or fish. Not much around Piney Point, but it is close enough to other cities to eat, pickup items, shop if that is what you desire. The restaurant next to the hotel was a nice experience. Being able to sit outside and enjoy the environment along with a nice meal is a good experience. The hotel check-in and check-out was quick and easy. The room was nice and comfortable. The highlight of the room is the balcony for each suite has a balcony. Sitting on the balcony, listening to the waves or your music while having a glass of wine or your favorite drink makes you never want to go back to work! Cleaning and ensuring the spiderwebs were cleaned from the balcony and the abundance of bird droppings around the pit, and cleaning the refrigerator (freezer iced over and food droppings) would have made this an even better experience.
If you want REAL peace and quiet, this is it. Located in the middle of nowhere, Your views on both sides is amazing. There is only a road that divides the hotel from water and on the other side your balcony literally hangs above water. Rooms are comfortable, nice beds, clean, nothing fancy but managed a good night sleep being lulled by waves. Not much to do but sit by the water with a good book and then have a nice dinner at the restaurant next door. Total disconnect from hectic lifestyle.
