We stayed at this hotel for 4 days, hotel is not bad and staff are very nice, however, the hotel needs some serious fixings about paint, all the wood and walls are a bit rusty being near sea, and need a ceiling fan in reception area too hot for guests that are checking in or out, food in breakfast area is a bit weak in selections, rooms and villas are ok, but floors are not so clean, they need to buff the marble floors with machines to make it shine and clean it better. Airport is another story in Phuket, too many x ray machines that harm human body!
After ditching on a trip to Bali for our honeymoon due to uncertaintanty regarding the rumbling volcano due to erupt any moment, we booked last minute at the Amatara in Phuket. It's a gorgeous property that is very peaceful but quite pricey for Thai standards. The rooms are reasonable but the onsite spa and restaurant are probably about the most expensive you'll find on the island. We booked in at the spa for about a 90 minute session of mud treatment and a couples massage, this set us back over CAD $600! The mud treatment was lousy and a total rip off but the massage was quite good and the view in the room was out of this world beautiful. Book this place if you want a very relaxing trip far from the noise of Patong Beach. The private villas are not the most spacious but they are beautiful and the private pools are spectacular. I couldn't think of a better spot. We spent hours swimming and goofing around in our private pool and really relaxed. The resort isn't all that close to any of the famous beaches but is very close to the industrial port so there were a lot of ugly looking tankers hanging out right in the bay that the infinity pool looks out onto. Not a great view. The staff for the most part were very exception except for when we went to checkout. More on that later. If you want to reconnect with your partner or just get off the grid to meditate and focus on the healing of your health and soul, this is likely the place for you. It's a magically beautiful spot as longs you don't mind spending western-type dollars in a country known for value. 2 massages here are equivalent to about the annual wage of a Thai citizen. We really enjoyed the Phuket area and had a blast doing some day trips to the various islands. We plan to come back and would likely stay at the Amatara again but do things a little different in terms of eating and doing spa services off property. The one thing that really annoyed me was when we were checking out, we reviewed our bill and noticed that an extra mini bar charge was added. It was very small but we didn't have the item so asked for it to be removed. Rather than take our word for it, the front desk clerk called housekeeping to check with them. It was rather odd and they were adamant we had eaten the snack. I mentioned that it had not been restocked in a few days and there was no way we could have consumed the item. After she begrudgingly removed this small charge from our bill, she went and ran through my pre-authorization as an actual charge to my credit card. I asked why not just charge me for the full ailment and cancel the pre-auth. Anyways, it turned into a bit of a kerfuffle with me overpaying and now needing to wait for a partial refund. I'll overlook this but it left a bit of bad taste after such a great stay. Pros: - Private and luxurious - Quiet - Beautiful gardens and plants - Private pools are large and decadent - For most part staff were very pleasant and attentive - Far from Patong Beach and the noise and trash - Clean - Awesome breakfast - Healthy - Soul healing - Photos online for the most part are just as beautiful in person...rare! Negatives: - Spa was far too pricey to really enjoy it properly. I imagine if they reduced their fees by 50% they do triple or quadruple the business - Some staff were rude and lacking knowledge of their role - Beach and pool look out into a Bay that has a lot of industrial boats and oil tankers - Very far from most of the other famous beaches - Far from airport - leave at least an hour to get there - Our trip ended too soon!
First time stay in Panwa Area, it is far away from the down town and patong. However, hotel provided shuttle bus to the town twice a day. Also to patong at 1900 daily but will charge 500bt for round trip. The price is acceptable since it took almost one hour to that area. The hotel located on the middle level. You might ask hotel send you to the street by golf car. There were many restaurants near by with sea facing view. Food quality was good and the price is much cheaper than the seafood restaurant in Patong. Hotel swimming pool is excellent and the view of roof top bar is amazing. All the staffs in this resort are friendly and helpful. Most of them could address you name during you stay with them.
My friend and I have recently spent 8 nights here. We used the hotel transport from the airport and were met at exit 3 by the driver . It took 45 minutes to the hotel - the vehicle had comfortable seating ,air conditioning and cold drinks and towels were provided. This was at a cost of 2500 Baht - I thought that after a long flight it would be a good way to start the holiday. For the return trip after our stay we opted to book a taxi from just near the entrance to the hotel road at a cost of 1000 Baht. We were met and welcomed with a drink and some flowers which was a nice touch. The check in was completed whilst sitting in the open air reception area with great views over the pool and to the sea beyond. We were checked in by Bow who was efficient and also friendly and charming ( I think I am in love with her !) . As we had booked a villa we also had a butler service as part of the package and Bow was to be ours.If we had any issues we contacted her and she also phoned us a couple of times during our stay to make sure everything was ok.She also gave us a cheery wave if we saw her around. We had arrived quite early at around 9am and with check in time not until 2pm we were delighted when we were able to check in straight away at no extra cost. As our flights were not until late on our departure day we asked about late checkout and were told that we could stay for 6 hrs beyond the normal checkout time of 12 noon in the same villa at a cost of 6250 Baht. I agreed to this as combined with the early check it felt like we had added an extra day to our holiday. We were lucky that these options were available to us but it is subject to the situation on your chosen arrival and departure dates. Be aware that the hotel will take a 2000 Baht / night deposit on arrival( refundable on departure after deduction of any costs incurred during the stay) - I was going to pay with my debit card but was surprised to be told it could only be done with a credit card which I did not have. Anyway this was resolved by me paying in cash so if you do not have a credit card make sure you have the cost of this in cash. We were taken to our villa in one of the buggies that are available for guests use throughout the resort.Bow showed us around before leaving us to settle in.We had booked an ocean view pool villa and were given No 26 which was totally private except to the passing ships and boats . The view was fantastic from our pool terrace and it was so relaxing to be able to enjoy this especially during the good weather - we had around 3 perfect days and 2 bad days with the remaining 3 days mixed. As this was the rainy season I think we did ok. The facilities included in the price of the villa included a free mini bar restocked daily , free laundry for 8 items per day( very welcome as it is quite humid) , free afternoon tea with several drink options including iced coffee which was excellent and also an assortment of canapes and also free cocktails between 6pm and 7pm on the roof terrace of the grill lounge (subject to the weather - it was moved indoors to the library on a wet night) .The view was good from the terrace and it was a nice place to enjoy a few drinks as the sun went down. Breakfast was included and could be enjoyed at the retreat(for villa guests) or the main restaurant. We tried the retreat once as it was right next to our villa but preferred the main restaurant as it it had a lot more choice. There is a good buffet choice and freshly cooked meals can be ordered from the menu - my friend and I tried several different dishes during our stay and everyone was delicious . I think a very high standard is maintained with regards to the freshness of the food and the service given by the very attentive staff. The staff in general are great and very welcoming - clearly they have been well trained . It made for a lovely stay at the hotel. We enjoyed the walks throughout the grounds which are covered in lush vegetation and down to the small beach which has nice views to the islands beyond. We only left the hotel to walk to the seafront (turn left at the hotel road entrance) where there is a nice promenade and a selection of restaurants. The aquarium is also located in this area.As the road to the hotel is uphill a lift by buggy can be requested at reception to take you down and to come back a lift can be requested at the security gates. There is an issue with mosquitos in and around the resort and despite using several different methods of protection I still got around 10 bites during my stay . This should not put you off coming as it is an occupational hazard when you are staying a a tropical resort such as this - just be aware of it and take as many precautions as you can. Our time to checkout came around too quickly after such a relaxing 8 days. Despite having a late checkout we were still early for our flights so we asked reception to look after our luggage and we spent 2 hrs in the reception area waiting for our taxi to arrive. Bow saw us waiting and bought us some cold drinks and mosquito spray which was very thoughtful . Anyway as I said I think I love her .... So in summary - this is a fabulous place to stay . The villa options are so comfortable and with the extra privileges included in the cost I think at the low season reduced prices this represents very good value .
My husband organised this trip as a gift for my 50th Birthday. It has been the most beautiful holiday. From the luxury airport transfer to the accommodation, everything is perfect. The staff are lovely and the resort is spectacular. The Hammam treatment is an experience in itself. Food has been delicious in both the various restaurants and in room dining. There are plenty od options if you're looking tp try yoga, pilates or a fitness class. This is a must do stay for anyone who likes a variety of options when it comes to recharging your health.
My husband & I stayed for a week at this resort from 10-17 August & I can't recommend them more highly if you looking for a relaxing holiday surrounded by beauty & amazing service. We were welcomed with a smile, cold drink & were quickly checked in & shown our Sea View Villa by Bow (who was also our 'butler' during our stay. Bow was wonderful, as in fact all the staff we had any dealings with were, management are obviously doing something right as everyone seems happy in their job & no request is too difficult. Our villa was superb, we overlooked a bay where we could see fishing boats coming & going & at low tide the locals would wander around searching for crustaceans (I think). During a heavy downpour we had a couple of leaks in our room & when we reported it maintenance were prompt in investigating & management even offered to move us but as the leaks were only on the floor in 2 areas that weren't inconvenient we were happy to stay put. The rest of the resort was lovely, in particular the Grill Lounge where we went for evening cocktails, The Restaurant for very nice meals & in particular The Grill Restaurant was fine dining at its best, yes quite expensive but made for a special night. We spent many an hour at the main pool & the 3 pool attendants, Alim, Fee & Tor were attentive & always had a smile & happy to stop & chat, I have to make a particular mention of Alim who we became quite friendly with, he always was on hand with towels, ice water & loved to talk to us about Thailand & Australia, he was a sponge for information & often had us laughing with his sense of humour. The one thing I have to commend the Amatara for is how they dealt with us when my husband injured his ankle (slipped on the rocks at the beach). From the time I let reception know of his injury they were quick to send their first aid officer to our room to tend to his ankle & from then on they looked after us, from sending carts to drive us anywhere on the resort we needed to go, to bringing fruit platters & flowers to our room, they even bought us cocktails because hubby couldn't get up the steps to the Grill Lounge for our nightly drinks, all of which we didn't ask for, they just did this for us! If anyone were to ask me I would say without hesitation, go to the Amatara Resort & see for yourselves how a truly fantastic holiday is supposed to be. If we were to return to Phuket we'll return to the Amatara Wellness Resort.
My wife and I arrived at the Amatara Wellness Resort for our honeymoon from 15 to 18 September during the supposed low season. We booked a premier sea view room for 3 nights. Usually it takes about 45 minutes to an hour to get from the airport to the hotel, but since it was raining heavily on the day of arrival it took us 3 hours to get there from the airport due to heavy traffic and flooding. Check in time at the hotel is at 2pm. However, when we arrived at 3pm we were told that our rooms were not ready. This was quite concerting to us as we had just arrived from a 3 hour long journey and after some deliberation from the staff, we were upgraded to a ocean view cape room for check in. This was a really nice gesture which we appreciated. The room which we stayed in was nice a spacious with a balcony and bathtub facing the ocean. The bed was soft and nice to sleep on. The grounds on the hotel are spacious and filled with luscious greenery. The infinity pool is surrounded by two Thai Gazebos which gives it a very authentic feel, and the view from the pool to the ocean is breathtaking. The resort provides Buggies which can transport you around the area. There are 3 restaurants in the resort - the restaurant, the grill and the retreat. We only tried the food at the restaurant during our 3 night stay. The food was sumptuous and delicious and reasonably priced. Breakfast at this resort was a real winner, with a huge selection of bread, juices, cheese, bacon, ham, sausage, an egg station, and a breakfast menu you can order from which includes eggs Benedict with hollandise and smoked salmon. We also liked the sautéed mushrooms and waffles, as well as the selection of teas including jasmine and camomile. The staff at the restaurant were friendly and accommodating. The hotel organises both complimentary and paid trips to different parts of Phuket - includes the night market, shopping mall and Patong Beach. There are also many massage parlours to try out in case you want to avoid the high prices in the resort. The only two things that we would like to point out for improvement are: 1) It was my wife's birthday on the second day of our honeymoon on the 16th and we pre-booked a complimentary cake to be served at 930pm at our room. This was confirmed by email between myself and the staff. The cake never came and no apology or any reason given for why it never arrived. 2) The check in process could have been better and we did not like being told to wait for our rooms for about 30 minutes to an hour when it was already 1 hour after check in time. At the very least, the hotel staff could have offered us some tea or refreshments (apart from the complimentary drink on arrival) while we waited for our rooms. That being said, we were pleasantly surprised that our rooms were upgraded and we appreciated this kind gesture. I have thought long and hard about writing this review and finally decided that this resort does deserve the 5 star rating based on the peaceful and relaxing experience which we had while on our honeymoon. Will definitely consider visiting this resort again!
We previously stayed in an ocean pool villa almost 2 years ago and loved it then, hence, our return! Things have changed since our first visit though...a new General Manager, a new rooftop sunset club bar and lounge above the stunning fine dinning restaurant, Grill, some amazing young and energetic, new and friendly staff. Overall, a far better level of customer service and sigfincantly improved food and beverage offerings in The Restaurant, room service etc have been achieved. The food and beverage manager, Garry, whom had just come on board during our last visit had predicated good changes were to come...and he was right!!! Gary, absolutely ensured we were looked after from the start with our booking, preferred room choice and thoughtful added extras like spa discount vouchers (which we took full advantage of!). Some very special "thank you's" must be made to following staff for their outstanding customer service; the female front office supervisor (during check-in...I'm sorry, I can't remember your name) that went out of her way to improve the view from our private pool; Tik, the young food and beverage supervisor for his attentive, obliging, fast and positive service; the young waiter wearing glasses (I'm sorry I can't remember your name) in The Restaurant that knew exactly how many coffees I drank each morning (amazing service); the warm and other outstanding senior waitress/superior in The Restaurant, Lee, and, of course, the new Swiss born GM.....you ALL ensured we enjoyed one of the most outstanding experiences in customer service ever...THANK YOU!! We cannot recommend this resort highly enough based on the level of service you provided and we can't wait to come back!!!
Visiting Amatara for rest and relaxation for 7 days. We found the manager Eric Weber extremely well versed on the resort and the staff so friendly and helpful. Our room was lovely and serviced well, the food fantastic. Day spa exceptional, the gym well equipped, library stunning, swimming pools beautiful and all in all everything we were looking for in a relaxing holiday. We would always recommend and will return. Cheers janet and Paul savage
Don't get me wrong, this place is beautiful but horribly managed. Peeling paint everywhere, water leaks, lizards ants and spiders inside the room. Food was decent, views are great. Management and staff all look sad and underpaid. Brings down the mood. We did meet one excellent staff Toon who does a great job at the afternoon tea. The golf cart drivers are also very friendly. We had two pool villas and one had a water leak inside the villa. When we called about it, the staff sent water to us--poor communication of front desk. Then the staff didn't see a problem when the leak was above the luggage table (where luggage is supposed to go). Clothes all soaked, damaged items. Management was slow to respond. Bringing a hair dryer at first. Then management was on eBay trying to buy our damaged items second hand but asked us to log into eBay so they could buy it. Then they asked us for receipts for the watch -- sorry don't know anyone who carries receipts. On the last day the staff busted in the room without knocking and I was naked. Kind of embarrassing but it was an accident on their part and I get that. Issue after issue -- nothing done to resolve except a simple apology on checkout. Too many choices in Phuket so I cannot recommend this place. Definitely not a 5 star hotel. I'd give a 1 star review but that doesn't fairly reflect the hotel. We spent about US$2500 for two rooms for 3 nights. My expectations were a bit higher. Note to management--staff training, employee bonus schemes, invest in paint! Would go a long way.
