The room and furnishings could be refurbished but they were clean and came with a great view of the valley. What was outstanding was the level of service of the front desk. Andreas and Pablo were attentive and friendly in giving good suggestions as to how to reach and return from a particular place and making reservations for dinner at restaurants in town. Useful for folks who don't speak Italian and do not have a pre planned, packed itinerary. Dinner at the in-house restaurant was good and reasonably priced (wild boar stew, cod fish salad and grilled sausages for kids). Will return to hotel if rooms are spruced up.
This is my second time in this hotel. It is super well located, near everything in the city center, 5 min walk away the monastery, near a parking place. The breakfast is not good enough, but it is aceptable and American type.
Excellent location and friendly staff, but the pictures of the hotel are slightly misleading. the rooms are very small, need refurbishment, breakfast is miserable with little choices, restaurant has spectacular view indeed, but the food was not very tasty. Englsih si Ok, WiFi is OK as well, private parking helps a lot and it is not expensive
Stayed in low season in one of the quintuple rooms. The hotel is in a nice location in the centre of the town and our room had amazing views over the valley. The room itself was very dated, especially the bathroom, but having said this it still represented good value for money. Breakfast was solid and the staff were helpful. Overall a solid hotel and we would stay here again.
We have stayed here during the low season so there are only a handful of people staying here. This meant that breakfast has limited options to reduce the food waste but there is still plenty to chose from! If you want something different, simply ask and they will cook a meal for you. Also, due to the lack of people all of the lights are on sensors so the corridors are dark until movement is detected. The staff are amazing, very cheery and helpful. The rooms are spacious with a really nice bathroom (though be careful not to spill water from the shower) and most rooms come with amazing views of the countryside (ours did and it was beautiful to watch the sun set over the valley!). Easy walking distance to most of the important places, only two are out of reach unless you have a car due to them being kilometres outside of the town. We have felt so comfortable and at home here! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone!
Wonderful location and if you can get a room at the back of the building overlooking the valley. If travelling by train get the bus to the bust station and a cab to the hotel , beware unlicensed cabs at the rail station. The staff are wonderfully helpful as are the staff in the restaurant where the meals are excellent. If on the menu try the omelette with truffles and finish your meal with a glass of the exceptional local grappa from Piedmont. Will stay again without hesitation. One point to remember Assisi has no Tourist room tax so even better deal. Railway ticket office was closed when we left , however tobacconist sold tickets but for cash only . Automatic ticket machines =on the platform are user friendly and have english language option and take cards .
This hotel is perfectly located between St. Francis Basilica and St. Clare's. The staff are the nicest people you will ever meet as are most of the people in Assisi! The staff learned the names of several people in our group and were very caring! Martin who was a waiter as well as worked the front desk was a favorite of many in our group. The view's from our rooms were beyond amazing! The rooms were quaint and charming. The shower not draining was a problem for one of our group and the hotel staff addressed it right away. Wifi is fair. There is no laundry service, but they will assist you in using a local laundry service, which worked very well for us and was reasonably priced. Lots of shops and little restaurants near by. Loved this hotel and the staff! would definitely stay again!
Be sure to get a room on the correct side of the hotel to get the view. The hotel was very warm and comfortable - and roomy, especially by European standards. We had 1 snag and that was the elevator was out of service for a couple of hours but but that couldn't be helped. We did eat dinner one night. The food was ok, not spectacular. To get a 5 rating.. 1. Open up the bar. Make that more inviting. 2. Maintain the 'Garden' area. We did go down for an outdoor drink, but the grass needed to be mowed, the fridge stocked with more beverages.....If they are going to advertise it, then it needs to be maintained. However those aren't necessary for the hotel. Our stay was VERY comfortable and the location, in relation to the rest of Assisi was great.
The Fontebella Hotel was a true delight. Aside from having to climb heart attack hill to get to the property, this is one of the most charming hotels in Assisi. My room was in a little annex adjacent to the restaurant. I am sure this annex dated to the time of Saint Francis, himself, which just added to the charm. The room was quite large, and the view of the valley below was breathtaking! The restaurant was excellent, with lasagna as good as my old Italian grandmother used to make. A special word of thanks to Martin on the wait staff, who was one of the most helpful people I encountered on my trip. I would heartily recommend this hotel to everyone.
I have been staying at this hotel for many years, it is a wonderful hotel which is inside the city walls with a wonderful view of the valley. The service is friendly, efficient, and always with a warm greeting! Their adjoining restaurant offers excellent food & wine with a panoramic view of the valley. Make sure you ask for a room with a view!
