My son and I took a trip to Italy and one of the things he wanted to do is to stay in a castle. Castello di Monterone was one of the coolest places I've ever been. Even though others were there, we still felt like we had the place to ourselves as we explored the grounds and got lost in the rock stairwells. This place would be excellent for a wedding or romantic getaway, but it was equally awesome for my kid and I. There's a five star restaurant that is amazingly affordable, an excellent complimentary breakfast spread with an array of meats, breads, cheeses, eggs, fruits, drinks....There's a pool and two saunas, gardens to explore and the most peaceful view of the countryside that you'll ever experience. The room was comfortable and well stocked. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful as well. The castle is about a fifteen minute cab ride to the city center where you can visit the Roca Paulina (underground fortress), eat the best pizza at a place right around the corner from the Etruscan well, and meander through the cobbled streets and skinny alleyways of Perugia. Castello di Monterone was my favorite part of our Italian adventure and I hope to return some day!

We booked this for one night during our honeymoon trip to Italy. The staff was super friendly and allowed us to choose our room (out of those that were available in our price range selection). They were very accomodating with any questions or needs we had.
