We have just returned from a two night New Year package with friends. We had a good time but with a few tweaks it could have been a brilliant break. The hotel location is brilliant with stunning views. Yes the hotel decor is tired in places but it is very clean and comfortable. We had a superior room with Loch views and it was definitely worth the small surcharge. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom both clean and warm. The towels are large and fluffy with bathrobes provided. However, the shower was only a dribble, storage as the water pressure was fine in both the sink and bath. The food was excellent, both at breakfast and in the evenings. The staff were all brilliant, always welcoming and really friendly. A couple of small niggles, we attended the new year celebration event, there wasn’t any music until the small band came on at the end of the meal. They only played traditional Scottish dance music, a bit of a mix would have been good, everyone was keen to get up and dance. No one counted in the new year, so each table used their phones to count down, then the music finished before the stovies were served at one so there was a bit of dead time. Then the meal the second evening was served in the restaurant, this was a buffet which we did not expect. The food was excellent but we expected a more formal Scottish menu. Overall we had a good time and would recommend this hotel, maybe we just need to research what to expect a bit more closely next time.
We have stayed in various MacDonald Hotels so are aware of what standards we can expect. We stayed here for the first time on a two night DBB package 27 & 28 December and was extremely disappointed that the heating in the public areas was either broken or switched off. The restaurant on our first evening was so cold it was impossible to enjoy our meal. Our second evening we ate in the bar area along with many other guests but the service was very poor due to one waitress serving food and drinks on her own. I mentioned my concerns about the lack of heating to the restaurant manager, waitress in the bar and reception and I'm still waiting on a response. Despite being told that our package allowed for us to eat in the bar on checking out I was charged an additional £60 which was removed when I questioned the error. I am sorry to be so negative as our Executive loch view room was excellent but I'm afraid the standards on this occasion is letting the MacDonald team down. Robert
We stayed here from 24th to 27th December. We were given a fabulous room on the second floor which would have done a 5 star hotel proud. The facilities in the hotel were excellent and the service for guests was excellent. All staff were very helpful and efficient and the quality of the food was first class. Overall our Christmas experience was amazing.
In general this was a reasonably good experience however having stayed there over the last two Christmases previously I felt that 'service' standards had slipped slightly. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful - but rushed off their feet, so there mostly wasn't the 'extra' good service of things that I had expected. e.g - we were rarely shown to our table (especially at breakfast time) but were waved in with a 'sit wherever you like'. As the hotel was very busy over Christmas this often meant that it was a bit hit or miss as to how long you had to sit before someone came to take an order for tea/coffee and toast or even to take an order for our cooked breakfasts. You would go and sit and someone who came in behind you would get their order taken first. Evening dining was much the same. What was missed most of the time was the attention to detail such as asking if our meal was ok and asking if we needed anything else in the way of drinks etc. Saw lots of people heading for the bar to top up their drinks because they hadn't been asked at the table. If you did need something the staff were always very obliging - but you had to find a member of staff first which wasn't always easy. some of the staff did make an effort to do the above things some of the time but I think the basic problem was that there were insufficient staff on duty. The other thing which didn't help was the fact that the dining room has two parts to it. More than once we saw managers standing in the more plush part of the dining room overseeing things - but they failed to check a lot of the time what was going in the other part of the dining room! I do feel also that in December the heating ought to be on all day and not just at certain times. I have no complaints about the heating in the bedrooms as the wall heaters worked very well and could be adjusted up or down as required but the corridors and the public areas were never toasty and were really quite chilly a lot of the time even if you were sitting right beside a radiator, once the timer switched off They do allow dogs, but the website clearly indicates that if you wish to bring a pet it must never be left in the bedrooms etc on its own - unfortunately that stipulation was ignored by the hotel staff and we had a dog in a room across the corridor from us who whined and scrabbled at the door when it was left on its own. I did report this but nothing happened! While it wasn't a problem at night time, it was a problem if you were trying to have a snooze at other times! We haven't been bothered by dogs before (although they have been there) so I am not sure if we were just unlucky this time or if they have relaxed their rules about leaving dogs unattended in the bedrooms. Previous years we noticed people taking their dogs out to their cars while they dined but wasn't aware of that this year The food was mostly very good (although Dinner on Christmas Day had hiccups with very hard sprouts and poached pears that you needed an axe to cut).Breakfast was especially good as the cooked breakfast was freshly made to order and there was a huge selection of continental type breakfast items to choose from - but the Dining Room menu is very limited - and if you are on a DBB package there are an awful lot of things which you have to pay a supplement for. The Bar menu was far better and they do allow you a set amount if you are on A DBB basis to spend against the bar food instead which we,in fact, appreciated and used. The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable with changes of towels etc every day if you needed them changed which was great All in all we had a pleasant break and will probably return - but we weren't made to feel 'special' in any way which was a disappointment as that has been the case on our previous visits - especially when the object of spending money on a Christmas package is to feel a bit pampered!
We stayed at the Loch Rannoch hotel for four nights over Christmas and we’ve had a super time. The staff are second to none - Matt, Conrad and Sylvia in particular deserve a mention - they just couldn’t do enough for us. We had a lovely family room overlooking the loch which was spectacular. The hotel could do with a little bit of investment (just a suggestion) but you should be so proud of your staff as they are brilliant! Thanks for a lovely time.
We stayed here from 14th-17th December What an experience. Hotel staff were exceptional and nothing to much trouble. Food was excellent and great choices from menus. Although hotel is a bit dated in some areas we could not fault the standard of cleanliness. We done the mountain safari during our stay and what an experience, highly recommend it. Scenery, wild life and location made for the ultimate break away at this hotel.,
Great service from helpful and attentive staff gave the hotel that something extra in terms of customer service . Nice food - particularly breakfast. Would go back again. Village is nice too with a great art gallery, The Shed which is worth a visit.
Enjoyed our stay. Great service from all staff throughout our visit. Loved the traditional Scottish feel of the lounge and dining areas. Hotel was perfectly situated for nice walks along the loch and surrounding hills. Food was delicious and varied. Look forward to our next visit.
We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean, there's a good sauna and the gym has a respectable selection of equipment. The views are spectacular from the hotel, it's definitely worth going for that alone. Great staff working in the bar and restaurant. Breakfast was very nice.
We really enjoyed our stay and the food was excellent. The service in the restaurant was very good but I think the heating should be kept on throughout the winter as we were very cold. There seemed to be more guests having food in the lounge rather than the restaurant, probably because it is warmer. Although the food was excellent in the restaurant a lot of the food on offer would mean paying a supplement if you book DBB. I think there needs to be more choice for those guests paying for the DBB package without restrictions or supplements.
