Macdonald Loch Rannoch Hotel

We stayed at the Macdonald Loch Rannoch hotel after a long hike. The room was large and the beds fine. Overall, however, the hotel looks as it has seen some better days - the decor is beginning to show some wear and tear. Free wifi is only available in the reception area, and even there it is quite slow. Service was fine, and the hotel cuisine fine. It was only a little disconcerting that in what is qualified as the "restaurant", y

We stayed for a night while traveling up north. It was ok, not more than that. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. The location was beautiful and good for recreation. But the hotel felt like it seen better days and cleaning was not so good. Cracked tiles in the bathroom. Wi-fi in room costs extra (free in reception). Maybe the rate from us would have been higher if we had been able to stay and enjoy the beatiful location. As a overnight stay it was expensive compared to the standard.

We stayed for one night in the Macdonald Loch Rannoch Hotel & Resort, Kinloch Rannoch. The area is extremly peaceful and tranquil. The staff were excellent particularly helpful were Anna and her boyfriend in the Bar. The Hotel is showing signs of wear and tear but was clean and the food was amazing. Wifi is only useable in the lobby and phone signal is poor but if you want to just get away from everything it was ideal.

Sadly the Loch Rannoch hotel is in slow decline. This once very busy and popular resort hotel is becoming neglected. The signage is dated, the garden areas unkempt and the squash courts and mariner now derelict. All that remains of the leisure facilities is the swimming pool. This is in remarkable contrast to other hotels in the area which have seen immense transformational improvements. We looked to try the dinner menu which found uninspiring. Albeit the staff were attentive and doing their hardest to make the hotel a success. We simply paid for our seemingly overpriced drinks and left.

Large resort on loch stunning location but no watersports in such a prime spot. Such a pity. Small pool steam room and sauna and gym in separate building unmanned but very quiet had all to ourselves. Entertainment was unbelievable group of older musicians playing selection of guitars ousted from our seats and then took ages to setup. Unrecognisable like a rhinestone cowboy. Unfortunately could still hear in room when tried to escape. Only local shop tearoom and crafts nowhere to buy food or anything you might need . generally.

Pros- Location is beautiful. Food is delicious and good quality. Staff are quick and efficient. Cons- Staff are predominantly Eastern European and struggled with my accent even though I'm only from Nottingham. Room 104 is very tired, carpet threadbare, dilapidated sofa, dusty, cobwebs, spider in residence. Walls are thin, heard neighbours getting it on! Lamp didn't work. Hairdryer didn't work. Husband bought me £250 worth of McDonald hotel vouchers, I picked this hotel for the quite peaceful location, the food we ate at the hotel was fabulous but I think the standard of accommodation is overpriced and slightly disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this as a location for a special trip away, just for somewhere to sleep if you need to be in the area.

It was clean but getting worn. The material on the chairs were wearing out, the shower lost pressure completely (which apparently happens on the 2nd floor) and I wouldn't have rated the 'executive business suites' as such, they were your basic hotel room. WiFi didn't reach my room either. Pool was nice, restaurant had a nice breakfast. Pub food looked good but short staffed, service at the bar was slow (but credit to her, she was swamped) but food came fast. It's a good location for walkers but I found a bit overpriced for the room you get.

Had a comfortable couple of nights here. Food in the bar was good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Probably needs a little updating but feels quite quaint. Drains are a bit smelly in the public toilets.

We weren't staying at the hotel as we were staying down the road at the Dunalastair Suites but we did pop in a few times over the weekend to the lounge/bar. The hotel itself is a little bit dated in terms of style and decor but it was very cosy and a nice place to retreat to for a wee break i.e. a dram. Sylvia, the barmaid, was great and was very helpful on both occasions. We loved how they had the chess board available for guests so we enjoyed playing that whilst enjoying some downtime and looking out over the Loch.

Cons: This hotel is crying out for renovation. The decor is tired and dated throughout. The ladies bathroom in the main foyer has an awful damp smell. Other than that, the rooms are clean but the facilities are poor. The indoor pool area is small and dated. The continental breakfast was very limited, and everything was VERY over priced. For a cooked breakfast it is an extra £17.50 which is a complete joke! The cafe in the village did a better breakfast for half the price so we just went there! Pros: friendly staff, beautiful location. The food was all cooked very well and was delicious! (but they charge too much...especially for the breakfast).
