The heart of Florida's Panhandle, at Perdido Key

Uniting two great states together, Perdido Key is located at the tip of the Florida Panhandle near Pensacola, Florida, and Orange Beach, Alabama. The Perdido Key area offers quiet relaxation and scenic seclusion, with festivals kicking things off frequently throughout the year. The Gulf of Mexico's white sand beaches and turquoise-toned water provide the main ingredients for any Florida Panhandle vacation.

Things to see and do
Beaches and nature

Perdido Key stretches through several federal and state parks full of wildlife, wetlands and protected estuaries. Perdido Key State Park, Big Lagoon State Park and Johnson Beach at Gulf Islands National Seashore are all great places to swim, fish, kayak and even camp. Nearby Pensacola Beach offers boardwalks, piers, stores and restaurants. Visitors can swim, dive and snorkel through the crystal-clear water of the Gulf of Mexico, then take a dolphin cruise, book a deep-sea fishing charter or embark on a parasailing daytrip.

Music, arts and culture

Perdido Key hotels are an open door to a variety of historic buildings and sites. Tour the beautiful homes in the Seville historic district, visit Florida's oldest church—Old Christ Church in Pensacola—or listen to national music acts at The Wharf in nearby Orange Beach, Alabama.

Zoos and science centers

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores is a fun outing for families and kids. Lemurs, tigers and kangaroos are just a few of the wild and furry friends found at the zoo. Special events, camps and animal encounters help carry out the zoo's mission of educating the public on the importance of conservation and wildlife habitats. For an educational visit, go to the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, which features exhibits and live demonstrations in the ChemLab.

Special Events
Great Gulfcoast Arts Festival

In November, Seville Square Park in Pensacola hosts three days dedicated to the arts. This event is a great way for artists to showcase their work and be discovered by visitors. Painters, sculptors, jewelers, potters and many other artistic craftsmen participate in the festival. There are daily dance performances by local schools, hands-on art demonstrations, and live music from several different genres, including bluegrass, jazz and classical.

Pensacola Greek Festival

Held in October at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Pensacola, the Greek Festival gives visitors a taste of Greek culture and cuisine. Music, dancing and tours are included in this fun celebration of Greek heritage.

Thunder on the Gulf

The Gulf Coast Powerboat Association brings boat racing to Orange Beach, Alabama, for four days in the month of August. Visitors are able to view the racing boats and meet the drivers at The Wharf.

Pensacola Mud Run

Break out the running shoes and get ready to get muddy. The Pensacola Mud Run in October requires runners to crawl, slide, climb, and swing during this 5-kilometer obstacle course. Kids' activities, music and food make this an inspiring event for the whole family.

Pensacola Interstate Fair

The Pensacola Interstate Fair displays agriculture, livestock, education and science exhibits from the surrounding counties and around the state. This is the place to get your funnel cake fix for the year.

Best time to stay

Perdido Key's Gulf Coast location ensures that it sees a mild climate and sunny skies throughout most of the year. The average temperatures hover around 77 degrees. Be sure to check weather information as the city occasionally experiences storms from the Gulf of Mexico.
