This is a great place to stay! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was large compared to many places weā€™ve stayed at, it is a very quiet neighborhood yet an easy walk to town, and the breakfast is excellent! We only got the continental breakfast (which can come with porridge or overnight oats), but Sue puts out a gorgeous fruit bar with yogurt and a variety of other toppings that we feasted on (her hot breakfast menu looks awfully good too). We look forward to our return there after several days in the Lakes District. It was very easy to come and go, and thereā€™s a convenient laundromat just up the street if youā€™re in need.

I stayed at the Brooklands guest house for a night due to a work trip so can't comment on its proximity to tourist sights, but the accommodation was close to the station. It was quiet, clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed including a kettle and snacks in the room. I had a generous breakfast before checking out the next morning.

Clean, comfortable, quiet, well-appointed ā€” one of the best stays we've enjoyed in frequent travel around the U.K. since retiring. Many thoughtful small amenities and conveniences, very good breakfast (for us vegetarian). We look forward to another visit.

This is a wonderful place to stay--convenient to the train station and the center of town, but in a quiet area. We stayed twice, before and after hiking in the Lakes District, and stayed in two different rooms. The beds are very comfortable, and both rooms had space for us to spread out. Tip: when it's really hot, the lower floors are cooler! Breakfast is great; we only got the continental, but it comes with porridge or overnight oats, and the menu for full breakfast looked fantastic and Sue cooks to order. And her fruit buffet can't be beat! Sue is a great host, and while she maintains a very clean place, she warmly accommodates bikers and hikers who arrive in less-than-clean condition (even a little early), and she has a place to store bikes and dry their shoes, etc.--this seems like a great place for the Coast-to-Coast riders to stop.

Absolutely wonderful - everything about the stay was perfect - beautiful house, breakfast, and hostess ! It is no wonder that it is. 4 in a bed winner ( for those who donā€™t know itā€™s a uk TV programme where 4 guest house owners compete against for best guest house etc ) We didnā€™t know this when we booked ! We will definately be staying when weā€™re back down for the world Marmalade festival next year ! To the hostess - Wishing you the very best in life and this exciting venture you are clearly made for - you are an inspiration ! X

Welcoming stay at a beautifully maintained guest house in Penrith. The owner Sue was very helpful, with great suggestions for dinner and day trips, and efficient service. The room was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Delicious cooked breakfast. Great location, close to town centre and a ten minute walk from the train station.
