Stayed at the Flamingo for a few days and was not particularly impressed. It is a budget hotel so we were not expecting too much. The breakfast buffet is fine with a reasonable selection and service is also OK. However, a few things moved this down to a 2* rating for me: the wifi speed is dreadful - I only really managed to download email headers and news alerts during the whole time that I was there. Some aspects of the room are shabby with broken fittings and there are other areas that need attention too. Not dreadful but slightly below 3*
Flamingo Hotel is a budget hotel suitable for family and large groups. Many of the visitors are on Group tours from Europe and appear to stay for 1 or more months, to escape the European winters. The Hotel is noisy, as the rooms have hard floors, doors banging, noisy, happy tourists without any consideration for others, but thats holidays! The Restaurant, at breakfast, struggle to handle the large crouds, and the management should take more interest in seeing that platters are re-filled quickly and not left empty. Seafood specialty night, good value for money. Unable to get an Iced-tea at the Restaurant after a hot day out and had to go to the Hotel next door, (Paradise Beach) where we were served quickly, even though that section was closed.Later found Ice Tea at the pool bar, just outside the Restaurant, which was made in the Restaurant, strange! Swimming pool clean, though the furniture could do with an up-date. Beach lounges grabed by the European visitors first thing, and belongings left, even when they were not there. The Hotel should moniter this, so others can take advantage of the beach, should they wish. Staff helpful and the rooms were kept clean by the room stewards. Rooms have little storage space, cupboards with no shelves so unusable. Bus stop outside Hotel which will take you into Penang for 2 ringitts each way, good value, or use the Hop-On bus at cost..
I have been visiting Penang for about 13 years now. For the last 4 years I have stayed at The Flamingo. This hotel is one of the nicest and friendliest hotels I have stayed in at Penang. It is situated on the beach at Tanjung Bungah which is easy to get to by public transport. The rooms are big, spacious and clean with a decent size balcony. The housekeeping staff are very efficient and friendly. All the staff are amazing. As you walk in you are greeted by the friendly bell boys who always assist you or share a joke. Again, in reception the staff always greet you and help you in a friendly, professional manner. There is a vast array of food on offer at breakfast catering for the different nationalities of people staying. The quality is good and, again, the staff are great. I can’t recommend this hotel enough and I’m already looking at flights for my next trip in 2019.
I have short vacay and stayed for 3nights with my small familly. Suitable to bring small baby..very calm n cozy.Nice view..buffet breakfast got a lots of choices, friendly staff. Have shuttle bus service .
This is our second 3 week visit to Flamingo by the beach. This is a great hotel with spectacular views over the bay of Penang. The staff here are excellent and friendly. We have made good friends with many of the long term staff and management who always go the extra to make our stay great. The restaurant is excellent, food is great, I have nothing bad to say. We will certainly be visiting again in 2019
Cons 1.Bad room service /housekeeping.. Its 4pm and no housekeeping is done! When called up, staff mentioned it's floor by floor duty and will do when time for my floor... Excuse me... But till 4pm?? 2. Swimming Pool.. Went for swim at their pool, but the staff telling can't wear tshirt and go swim.. Hello.. It's swimming dress and you can't recognised it? But others with tshirt are just happily swimming thru...? Overall.. It's overpriced.. Overrated hotel..
Stayed at the sea view room during Chinese new year. The room was bright ,spacious and the view was spectacular. Swimming pool was lovely though it can be over crowded especially in the evening. The pool bar was a good spot to chillax. Will definitely come back again.
For the first time I tried a 4-star hotel and I choose this hotel. Room is spacious same goes to toilet and bathroom, good amenities and facilities, friendly and helpful staff, parking is not an issue, and most importantly is the breakfast!!! Love the breakfast very much!!!
I decided to upgrade myself from nearby Copthorne already last year after being shown Flamingo's seaview rooms with balcony and the large pool. Making the reservation on line four months early I got a good price. The view from 9th floor was magnificient with the bay, beach and mountains. Every evening I ordered a gourmet quality dinner to my balcony, it was reasonably priced, served friendly and efficiently. I wanted to sleep with the doors open so the pounding of waves, barking of dogs and partying on the beach were a bit noisy. Breakfast was the large oriental kind to please all customers, mainly Chinese and Arabs, only a few Europeans. There was outside seating both on the pool terrace and in the garden. Most new pools in Asia are now wading pools as the locals are not great swimmers, but you do get size instead. The 40 m lenght and 1.2 m depth were enough for laps. The beach is straight down from the garden, sand is clean and the athmosphere is quite peacefull though it is public. I didn't go into the sea, the colour was muddy, there were warnings of jellyfish and I heard people had actually been burned. The reliable bus 101 has stops in front of the hotel, costs 2 rm and travels to Georgetown in 30 minutes.
Stayed in the hotel over the Christmas holidays. The reception area is lovely and the staff were very warm and welcoming. The room was a nice size although the walls were clean I would say that the stained wood could do with either a good clean or a paint, this lets the room down. I was extremely surprised to see that although we had a balcony there were no chairs, when I asked about this I was told that only rooms with a “sea view” had chairs – how strange!!! I was disappointed that the water was only ever warm and I did not once in my 14 nights have a hot shower whatever time I took it. Breakfast was good with excellent service from the staff. I would suggest that the hotel tidy the “egg station” area, this looked more like a scrap yard (photos added) Overall I would say this is a very good hotel, but sadly there are a couple of things that let it down. The pool area was busy when we first got to the hotel and so we went onto the beach and the beach was disgusting so dirty. I asked a member of staff about it being cleaned of litter and was told that the government paid contractors to clean it but they did not seem to do it and no one cleared it while we were there. It would only take half an hour each day to collect the litter and would make a big difference. Also the hotel should make guest aware that they should not leave litter and perhaps install a bin, most of this rubbish ends up in the sea. (photos) Also on a number of days each week the hotel had company bonding days where there would be 30/40 people doing bonding tasks on the beach which meant it was noisy and not accessible for guests. (photos) I have given what I consider a true overall review of this hotel. With a few little changes this hotel would be excellent. I did however enjoy my stay
