An absolutely fantastic hotel. We stayed in the heritage wing and found the staff wonderful, the food delicious and the room kept clean and tidy. We will be returning to this gem.

Disappointing stay. Property is definitely trading on its history and is in dire need of updating. Room issues were not addressed and breakfast was so poor that we went out instead. Assistant manager called once and then never followed up. Would not stay again and wouldn't recommend.

I recently stayed at the E&O Penang and overall had a very good experience. The room itself was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well kept. I needed a few extra items like towels, and although I had to ask, the staff responded quickly and efficiently, which I really appreciated. One area that could be improved is the food offering. The room service menu is quite limited, especially late at night. Arriving back at the hotel around 11:30pm to find the bars and restaurants closed left very few options, which was a little disappointing for a hotel of this standard. Some of the common areas, particularly around the pool and outdoor spaces, are starting to show their age and could benefit from a refresh. It would also be great to see more variety in the food choices across the hotel, especially more local Asian options. Overall, though, it’s a solid 4 out of 5 stay — classic, comfortable, and with excellent service when needed. With a few updates and broader dining options, it could easily reach a 5.

Staff in general not very friendly except the doormen and porters. Cockroach at noodle area at breakfast. Just not a welcoming vibe in general. I’m a platinum member with an established group of hotels and I forwent that to experience something different and I found the hotel to be nothing special. May have the laurels of being 140 years old but the welcoming is definitely not that.
