Hotel Meurice3.0 out of 5.0

Stayed here with my partner and 2 dogs in July and September. Ideal location for the ferry and eurotunnel and wthin easy reach of restaurants and bars. The hotel itself is rather quirky but I found it quite appealing the rooms are spacious and secure parking is available. The bar area is quite cosy. We didn't have breakfast but the room it was served in looked very pleasant. We will definitely stay again on our way through France.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for a one night stop over before driving to Normandy the following day. Parking is available in the road outside of the hotel, if not in their garage which was full when we go there. Hotel reception was manned as soon as we turned up and very friendly with good English. The room was absolutely great, small but not too small by any means. The bathroom was big, well fitted out and clean with a separate toilet which is a plus in most hotel rooms. The hotel is beautiful. A proper classic French establishment with evident long and lustrous history. The best are of the highest quality and comfort!! I'd read this in other reviews and it's definitely not said lightly! We missed breakfast in the morning but the kind lady on reception made us up an 'express breakfast' which she brought to our room. Just a few pastries and coffee. All in all. If you're in Calais or stopping over before travelling forward. I'd won't look any further.
We decided not to rush home & stopped off in Calais - a sadly diminished place where unfortunately few stop on their way home. You can see Meurice is struggling but they try really hard to keep up standards. It's really clean, well run, friendly & the beds are fabulous with lovely fine cotton sheets. The breakfast was good too. They clearly should revamp the place, but everything works..... You can park in the street outside but I managed to squeeze my panel van into the garage as I had to leave a lot of valuable stuff inside overnight.
We stopped at the Meurice twice this summer. As ever, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff were friendly, and the choice at breakfast was great. Not many hotels achieve this for this price. Sadly, on our second visit our car was broken into outside the hotel (though nothing was stolen). We've never had a problem before, but perhaps avoid parking behind the Musee des Beaux Arts if there is stuff in your car. The hotel offered to take us to the police station to do the report, but we didn't need to take them up on the offer.
This hotel is quite well situated for the old town and we had no problem parking the car in the street outside. The rooms were a surprise; they are fairly small but well equipped and the beds are really comfortable. The following morning all of us remarked on what a good night's sleep we had had and how great the pillows were - things like that and the quality off the linen mark this hotel out compared to all that we have stayed in in Calais. Will definitely use it again.
From the moment we arrived we could tell that it was going to be a nice experience and we were not disappointed. The hotel is perfectly situated only a five minute walk to the Place d'Armes where there are lots of places to eat. It is also ideally situated for the ferry terminal and easy to find from the Eurotunnel. When we walked into the magnificent Reception area, we were warmly greeted and given our room with no fuss. Everything was nice, friendly and welcoming. Our room which was on the ground floor (room 043) was clean, with a nice view onto the rear garden. Bathroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The decor has an old fashioned feel and there are lots of nice touches of old, mixed with modern around the hotel. Whilst there is adequate on-street parking, we made use of the underground car park which has a lift straight to Reception and is monitored from Reception by CCTV. For 10 Euros this was well worth the additional cost. At one point we asked for another bath towel and the Chambermaid appeared at our door within 5 minutes with more towels. We fell in love with this place, the quietness, the easiness of getting around, the security and of course, the comfort. In fact we had 2 brilliant nights stay and could not fault anything. Thank you for having us, apologies for my schoolboy French upon checking in, of course we will recommend you to our friends and we will definitely be back when we return to Calais in 2018.
We stayed at the Maurice in Calais for one night.Room very crowded, window just opened a little bit at the top no air con.Toilet flushing was a bit of a nightmare reminding of a caravan toilet that we have to repeat pressing a button on the side for the flush a bit of a struggle. The bar didn't have a cold bottle of water only room temperature and one of the side table lamp didn't work at all and not very pleased with the check in that was only allowed at 3pm and the check out had to be at 10am next morning.....really!!!!!!
Not sure how this place has got any good reviews. From rude reception staff to soiled chairs. Wifi does not work anywhere, when asked about just got that I was wrong to type in a web address. Still didn't work. Asked to be on the same floor as my son but reception man replied with "no" rude service. Room is not throughly cleaned. Blind didn't work either so sunlight came in at 4 as well as drunk people screaming outside and singing. Bad night sleep.
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel which is in a nice central location near Richelieu Park and the Cathedral. The hotel has a wonderful “Olde Worlde” character. We had some drinks in the bar which was like sitting in a comfortable English Gentlemen’s Club. Our rooms were clean, quiet with comfortable beds. On checking in, the young man on reception was very polite and efficient and directed me to the car park. The hotel has an underground car park which is spacious, easy to access and has a lift to the rooms. We enjoyed breakfast which was plentiful with nice choices. The staff were very friendly and polite and made us feel welcome. We will definitely stay there again.
Comfortable bed, good value, clean. Well equipped room. Slept well. Only noise was seagulls! Didn't have breakfast so can't comment. In Calais centre, close to station. Very friendly staff. Would stay there again.
