We very much enjoyed our brief stay at this handsome establishment. The room was large and well furnished. The management seems meticulous; service was consistently friendly, and everything was spotless. The price was reasonable. We especially liked the generous breakfast in the sunny, elegant breakfast hall.
We only spent one night there but the room was clean and the desk was happy to help with any questions. We walked up and down the narrow streets of Palermo and found local foods and small gifts. Very busy and populated area but people were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is actually quite a way from the historic older part of Palermo. Grand style building but getting worn and tired throughout needing some refurbishment. Comfortable room, kettle and good Mercure amenities provided, Wi-Fi worked well. Adequate buffet breakfast but really busy with multiple group tours. Several restaurants nearby in side streets, Bioesseri which is opposite the hotel proved to be a good choice.
Comfortable room on 3rd floor- no windows but quiet because of ceiling velux windows.Basic but large room.Hallways and carpet very very old and unacceptable for a Mercure Hotel.Very good breakfast and room.We had a tour meal at night which was well below standard.First stay in Sicily so not sure of standards.Really needs a good refurbishment.Good location .
We stayed here for two nights during our private Sicily tour and after 3 weeks travelling thru Sardinia and Sicily, it's clear that Italian 4 star hotels have a different idea of cleanliness and property maintenance. When we reported that the overnight rain had come in thru the hole in the ceiling above the window and wet the carpet, we got the feeling that nothing would happen. But in our experience, this hotel was pretty good...the staff were nice and public ares were fine. As others have mentioned it is situated a good fifteen minutes walk from the main drag, so thats something you need to consider.
We (two couples) stayed here for three nights in September before joining a tour. The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. Our room was smelly with old, marked furniture. The bed was as hard as a rock and creaked with every move we made. Filthy windows, peeling shutters. A shower head that was corroded and sprayed water all over the bathroom. Zero wifi in your room. It does not work at all even though the staff will act all surprised if you ask them about it. Go down to reception and hope for the best. Staff have zero interest in your concerns and ignore you in the hope that you will go away. We complained about everything but the bed was our main concern as one of us has a bad back and we were told that the hotel was full and that all beds are the same. To top it all off is the non stop traffic noise. You might as well go and lay down on the footpath and try to sleep. We just arrived home after five weeks in Europe and this was by far the worst experience we had. Palermo is a great city but this hotel is terrible. I want a refund.
Our room was a bit small but it was clean and comfortable. One of the best buffet breakfasts. The location is outstanding. You are near the historic center but easy walking or bus to the center. Although there at least 3 bus loads of tourists checking in everyday it did not seem the hotel was crowded. Stayed 6 nights and thought the hotel was a great choice.
We stayed here for 4 nights before moving on to Cefalu and I wish we had stayed at another hotel. The hotel is about 2k from the main centre, i.e Central Station but busses pass the front regularly but expect to stand. The Staff are generally ok, especially the bar and in the dining room for breakfast. We wanted a room with a balcony so we booked a Superior room because the photos suggested they had them but we ended up with a large room with a low ceiling and no proper windows, just 2 skylights. We did phone reception but they were not interested, I would have paid extra for a balcony but they didn't even suggest it. I have had issues with Mercure before, I am a member of their loyalty programme and a member of the IHG programme and Mercure (Accor) don't even come close with customer service. Firstly although we patronised the bar, on occasions we asked if we could take some ice up to our room, given in a glass! For goodness sake get some ice buckets! The servicing of the room is very poor! Hair in the toilet (not ours) not replenishing milk cartons and toilet rolls......poor! poor! The breakfast has a good selection of food and that is good but is let down by hot food selection Luke warm and water not hot enough to make tea. The thing to realise about this place is its main trade is coach parties who arrive for 1 night, so they don't really care. I emailed Mercure via their complaints facility on their website twice and they have not responded even though it says they will within 48 hours. I told them I would not publish anything on Tripadvisor unless they didn't respond .I won't be back, the prices are mid range, I paid around £380 for 4 nights but other hotels more central charge less, It gets 3 stars, 1 for the lovely man at breakfast, 1 for the lovely bar man and 1 for being quiet. That's all the positives done.
Our one night experience was completely satisfactory. The room was very good despite having a sky light rather than a window. The room facilities were more than adequate, the bed was comfortable and we were delighted to find coffee making facilities in the room. We were part of a tour group so the dining room evening meal was a set menu but dinner and breakfast was ok but because of a tour group leaving earlier than ours much of the breakfast food had been exhausted and we had to ask for replenishment. We are not sure about the area surrounding the hotel because after a full days travel we did not venture out. We were annoyed our passports were not returned after check in and we are convinced they were held to ensure we paid the city tax next morning. The reception staff were quite rude about it and the bus was delayed because somebody had not paid the 4 euro per person.
We were very pleased with the hotel and it's location, and the staff were excellent. Downstairs areas looked a little tired but the room we had was very nice and a good size (room 334). We were made very welcome, and the staff gave us good, advice. The garaging facilty at 25€ for a large car was reasonable and very efficient.
