Hotel Bel 33.0 out of 5.0

We stayed here for 3 nights recently. The hotel is quite a distance out of Palermo and therefore a car is desirable. The hotel offers free parking but we did in fact pay a parking supplement when booking the hotel throughHotels.com. The hotel is somewhat soulless but does offer good views over the city. There is no where else to eat apart from the hotel restaurant which offered a reasonable set menu at 18 euros per person. Breakfast, however was a different story. The choice was extremely limited - the croissants were cold and at one meal they were certainly not fresh. Coffee came out of a machine which did not seem to work efficiently- quite frankly it was awful! The hotel needs to pay some attention to its sound proofing. We had a room on the third floor and were constantly disturbed by the people above us walking across the floor and by the noise of the television in the next room. I would not stay here again.
We stayed here a few years ago and did enjoy our stay, the view is wonderful, it was very good value for money too - it was very enjoyable to have breakfast on their roof terrace or swimming the infinity pool in the afternoon... but it was an effort trying to get into the city center and back, and being the only hotel guests at the time was kinda spooky. But remember this being an enjoyable, comfortable stay nonetheless, 3.5/5 for me.
Basic hotel freshly decorated but a bit soulless. Restaurant was very good and breakfast was a decent buffet. Our visit was spoilt for us when we used the hotel taxi service to go into Palermo. We were dropped off in the morning and told to wait in the same location at 4.30pm for our return trip. We waited until 5.30pm and then asked a local English speaking restauranteur to help us. He rang the hotel and was told no one was coming and that we should get a taxi. Cost of hotel taxi had been €9 but local taxi back cost us €25! On returning to the hotel no apology was given. We advise caution when offered this service.
Hotel felt like an absolute ghost town with the hotel being hardly furnished, the view was disappointing and it's in a ghetto part of Palermo. Also, don't be deceived, their non-smoking rooms and smoked in, due to them not enforcing the 'non-smoking' factor sooo your room will smell like a mediocre deodorant was thrown over the smoke smell.
I spent four nights here with my partner in April. The view has to be seen to be believed, absolutely stunning. Room was large and comfortable, although the shower is rather small. We ate dinner in the restaurant twice - prices are reasonable and food is good quality. Breakfast is basic but fine. Staff very friendly and keen to help. Overall, a positive experience.
I have gait/walking challenges (stroke); accom. has to be convenient to shopping and/or sights. Stunning views, night and day, high up on a hill, overlooking Palermo and the Mediterranean; very romantic. Swimming pool - great, extensive terraces for relaxing. Sightseeing all day, we really didn't spend a lot of time in the room - just for sleeping in: big room, food and facilities, good. Parking was great. Breakfast was included; great selection, and the v-i-e-w-s! Staff friendly, professional, wonderful hospitality.
The view is breathtaking!! It's tucked away in a mountainside away from the hustle and bustle of Palermo, but close enough to get there in no time. Our room was clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful...lunch not so much. Wifi connection was a bit unsatisfactory, but better than others. Do yourself a favor and stay here!
The view and the jacuzzi are excellent and if you just want to relax, this is a good place to be. We found the hotel very clean and our bed was large and comfy. Hotel transport into Palermo was very good and cheap. The restaurant menu was quite extensive, but lots of similar items - pasta, seafood, pizzas and meat. Vegetables, potatoes/chips cost extra. We averaged about 20 euros per person per night. The hotel staff tried to accommodate all our requests e.g. making us a sandwich at lunchtime when we didn't want a full meal. Fridge in the room was handy and well used. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking Palermo was a great way to start each day (no hot items - bread, cheese, ham, yoghurts, cake!). Despite being later on in the year (Sept/Oct) the weather was perfect - mid 20s. 😎 Surrounding area is dirty and the road is narrow with lots of sharp bends and no pavement, so not good for walking around. Very basic rooms with no kettle/tea/coffee making facilities. If you wanted to eat out in the evening, you had to go into Palermo and time your meals around the hotel transport or take a taxi back. The cost of taxis can soon add up! Our balcony was tiny - just room for a small table and 2 chairs (other rooms did have bigger balconies though). Lots of barking dogs and fireworks in Palermo, which didn't bother me because I can sleep through anything, but my husband suffered. The bar was tiny and not suitable for relaxing in - there needs to be a communal area where people can sit in the evenings. They might have somewhere open at the height of the season - we went end of September/ beginning of October. The pool is tiny, but good for cooling off in.
The hotel is easily accessible to Palermo either by hotel transfer (max 9 euros for 4 people) or by the half-hourly bus from the bottom of the road. Please note you CAN'T buy bus tickets from the local tobacconist or on the bus; you need to buy at the terminus at Plaza John Lennon(best buy a daily ticket for 3.5 euros which gives unlimited travel on all buses) Hotel is great value - clean, spacious and the restaurant serves good quality food(especially pizzas) at very reasonable prices. It's far enough from the city to offer peace and quiet as well as wonderful views. The swimming pool is small but we had it to ourselves during our fourteen day stay. The quietness has one drawback during the day - the restaurant/bar is only open for two hours at lunch - outside that time of the day the only drinks available are from vending machines. This is a pity but understandable as staffing the bar for so few guests would be costly.
It took us quite some time (we arrived in the dark) to find this hotel. Eventually, we had a very friendly local guy living nearby to show us the way. However, when you have found it, you will be awarded with stunning views over Palermo. I would advice to park the car (for free) along the road, the private car park is very small and you have to leave the car keys at reception. Staff is most friendly and check-in procedure is excellent. The numbering of the floors is a puzzle you have to make out for yourself, but let me tell you it takes to elevator rides (down, mind you) to reach the sixth floor. The room was very spacious, clean and modern. Free WiFi. Large bathroom with shower in bath. Private balcony. From the swimming pool (there are three small ones in total with enough beds) you also have a stunning view over Palermo.
