This is a lovely old hunting lodge on an olive farm on a hilltop overlooking fantastic Tuscan landscapes. The rooms have been beautifully decorated and the family are excellent hosts. The picturesque hill-town is a short walk away and the people are friendly. A car is necessary for day trips to Pisa, Luca, San Gimignano, Volterra and Siena. (I took the good advice of taking the train to Florence.) Enjoy country life and easily visit the great art cities in Tuscany.
This is not a five star accommodation nor does it pretend to be. It is a rustic farmhouse located on the outskirts of Palaia and was a perfect home base to explore the Tuscan countryside. Greta, the proprietor, was very accommodating on giving us suggestions for supermarkets and restaurants and even called a local restaurant to make a reservation for us. Greta's Mother, prepared a cold breakfast for us each morning and was friendly and engaging. We did have a bit of trouble regulating the shower temperature and our living room lights flickered on and off periodically at night. All said, the price was very affordable and the accommodations adequate for our seven night stay.
The building is an 18-hundreds farm that has been completely renovated by the owner- a fantastic local artist. She carefully chose traditional furniture to re-design the interior of the various apartments where the guests can stay. The site is magnificent, it feels like living within a painting by Simone Martini (Tuscan hills surround you as you walk around the olive grove that leads to the pool). Highly recommended!
The pictures are all lies!!! There is no AC and the girl that works there is rude and very strange!!! Full of flies as well!!! We were charged 166 euros for a night!!! The sheets were not matching and the towels were not matching and extremely hard!!
Due to flight arrangements we needed somewhere to stay before our timeshare week. The location was fantastic with views to die for in every direction. Our room was up very steep stairs but was huge and more of a suite with a lounge, bedroom and bathroom. The owners were friendly but unobtrusive, so much so that it was difficult to find someone to make coffee in the morning. The covered parking was a bonus as the weather was so hot, the pool looked inviting although we didn't have time to try it. Excellent value for money for a one-night stay. One thing to be careful of: a small step between the bedroom and the lounge that I fell up or down every time!
The location is rural which is fine but we arrived on a very hot Saturday afternoon in July to a room with no air-conditioning, no fan and not as much as a bottle of compliementary water in the the fridge. Greta the main hostess was very difficult to find. Breakfast, any other food and toilet roll took several attempts to acquire. I spent more than one hour of our 3 day stay walking around their office and any open doors calling for a staff member to acquire a basic need like toilet roll etc. The place in general is starting to look run down and does not merit it reasonably high trip advisor rating. There is no real functioning restaurant. Breakfast or a coffee is hard to come by. Greta and staff are unwilling to book taxi's etc for you, they will provide telephone numbers but most drivers speak no English so this isn't really a help. They never made us feel welcome or checked if we needed anything. People travelling with us requested a fan as it was so so hot. She arrived at about 11 pm with a 6 inch fan that was next to useless. The showers in our room went spontaneously from very hot to very cold. On the last day we were leaving the host or her husband (I presume) never approached us to ask how our stay was or see if we needed anything. We had bought food ourselves as it was next to impossible to get any from them, yet they never come over and said would we like a coffee etc etc. The food we did get from them felt reluctant and tasted awful. Someone sat on the tables outside our apartment one night and drank bottles of beer and smoked, which is fine. What isn't fine was the staff did not make any attempt to clean the rubbish left behind up until I moved it to outside their door at 15.00 hrs the following day. The internet signal is rubbish and only barely works in one or two locations. The positives are it is a nice building (although is run down and has clearly not been invested in recently). The pool is nice and everyone we met travelling there was lovely. Cooking facilities are good but you need to travel to shops which is a car drive away and shops are open at random hours - trying to find this information out from the hosts would be next to impossible. The negatives are, terrible customer service, no air-con or at least no fans in each room, no wi-fi worth talking about, no access to food, untidy and poorly invested in.
We found this place in Booking.com! It's an ok place, nothing special! A bit difficult to drive at night! No Air conditioner, the Fan was not working so basically, we had a very hot night, hard to fall asleep because of the mosquitos! If you stay there, you should close the windows all the time for the mosquitos!
This is a beautiful place with fantastic family owners. They very kindly allowed us to check out late as they didn't have another reservation the following day and the B&B itself is in great surroundings. The rooms can get a bit warm as there isn't any air conditioning or fans in the rooms which is the only reason I'm not awarding five stars however very pleased with my stay overall!
Our stay at La Palazzina: quiet, peaceful and fully relaxing. We rented two different apartments during our stay so we got to see two of them, both were nicely decorated in the typical Tuscan style. The property has a great structure: the apartments have different orientations and each one has a separate terrace: you almost feel as if you're all alone overlooking the Tuscan hills, since there is almost no sound of other guests to be heard. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, homemade pastries and delightful cappucino. One needs to cross the olive yard to reach the swimming pool which has an amazing view, and a small tower hiding the toilet. The place seems to be run by a family which adds up to its charm. We'll definitely go back!
This totally charming Tuscan B&B provided us one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever had! A delicious breakfast was provided by our hostess, Ornella, who made our trip very special by her friendly personality and helpfulness. She gave us expert driving directions, arranged delivery of a rental car (delivered to our door), and set up a local winery, cheese an vespa museum tour for us as well. The swimming pool was very well maintained, and was surrounded by panoramic views of neighboring villas where the only sounds were tons of birds, and an occasional rooster. It was like living in another era. Downtown Palaia is minutes away. The best restaurant was on the main street down from the Pub. Not to be missed. The rooms were decorated with original art, and nice antique furniture. The only thing missing was bath soap, and any bath amenities you might find in a hotel. Highly recommend this BnB for the scenery, helpfulness of staff, and beautiful pool, and accommodations. Totallly peaceful.
