A lovely 3-night stay at this homely, rustic-style guest house. With a warm, friendly greeting we felt right at home from the start. In a very convenient, easily walkable, yet quiet location right in the centre of Oudtshoorn, with a delightful garden and pool area and safe on-site parking, this guesthouse is a gem. Gerry is an outstanding host! He went above and beyond to provide recommendations and information on the area .... he even made restaurant reservations for us. Always friendly and chatty ... we left feeling like friends. Most outstanding, however, was his healthy, generous and freshly-prepared breakfast ... really set us up for the day. Highly recommended!

Very welcoming stay!

We had a wonderful time staying at the Gumtree. The host was very sweet and helped us with great ideas of things to do and see while in the area. The breakfast was tasty with choices of hot and cold items, fresh made bread, and fresh fruit cups. The location was quiet, but within walking distance to good restaurants.

Excellent all round & fantastic location

Our host Jerry could not be more charming or helpful. He’s a font of knowledge and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in places that look more plush, but this was by far superior in every way. Powerful shower, quiet air con and ceiling fan, and the best breakfast.

A great stopover, very friendly and convenient too

Phil and Linda made us very welcome and made our stay really enjoyable. We have stayed at the Gumtree previously and will no doubt return. The garden is lovely and there is a pool for cooling off after a long drive. Phil cooks a very good breakfast and Linda's fruit salad is lovely. We would recommend.

One of the very best—stay here.

On the road 800+ nights around the world and this is one of the best, in every way. Super location, close but not too close to town—-quiet, beautiful morning birdsong. Clean, very comfortable bed and room—very peaceful, restful sleep. First rate room. Breakfast was superb—locally sourced, fresh juice, excellent cold and hot food, homemade bread. Beautiful breakfast room. And proprietors Phil and Linda all pull off this first rate guesthouse with graciousness and warm hospitality. And very, very interesting and engaging people they both are—just first rate human beings running a first rate guest house. You can’t and won’t go wrong—stay here if you are in or near Outdshoorn. You will be very happy you did.

Pleasant stay.

Our hosts Phil and Linda were very hospitable and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. Great breakfast with good choices. Nice swimming pool area to relax around. Walking distance to some restaurants and shops. You have to be a bit careful leaving the premises by car as you are on a downwards slope and it is not to easy to see the traffic. Just a small point.

A memorable stay and excursion with Phil and Linda

Gumtree Lodge is perfect for a visit to Oudtshoorn and the surrounding areas. Phil and Linda are excellent hosts who are extremely knowledgeable and professional in their approach. Service is first class! The guest house is ideally placed for walking to a range of restaurants and Phil and Linda advised us about these. Breakfast was delicious. Our room was spacious and looked onto the gardens and pool. It had everything we needed. The bar and dining area are very tastefully decorated. There were too many extras to mention. An unforgettable memory is the circular tour through the Schwartberg Pass driven by Phil who provided a really well informed commentary. We would highly recommend this guided tour. We think that we were extremely lucky to have chosen Gumtree Lodge and highly recommend it.

South Africa road trip

We enjoyed returning to this fabulous Guesthouse. Phil and Linda are great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Oudtshoorn experienced 2 power cuts while we were there and our hosts ensured we were inconvenienced as little as possible. We would highly recommend this gem of a Guesthouse and also a day trip over the Swartberg pass driven by Phil in his 4 x 4.

Phil and Linda was fantastic hosts and their beautiful dog domino was lovely. The guest has a relaxed feel about it and feel as though you have known Phil and Linda all yiur kife. Our first drink was complimentary and then tried the local gin which was lovely. Breakfast in the morning was the full Monty as well as toast and local jams and cereals. We would stay again as it was wonderful.
