My wife and I were in California to enjoy the Tournament of Roses parade, so we stayed a few nights at the MARRIOTT NEWPORT COAST VILLAS. It’s a beautiful resort with fantastic service and amenities. Our rooms were beautifully designed and decorated, including a full kitchen and laundry closet. From our balcony, we could see the ocean and sunset – delightfully relaxing. We especially liked the big 2-person shower and garden tub in the Master Suite! The place is clearly kid-friendly – so ask for a top floor to avoid thundering hoofs above at night! Another annoyance is the drones! Drones are allowed, so don’t expect complete privacy. Lots of families were enjoying the swimming pools and playgrounds, and our evening entertainment by tonight’s guitarist-singer xxx was absolutely enjoyable and nostalgic. The beds were a bit soft and we woke up with sore muscles – they probably need replacement. Otherwise, it was a great stay.
I have been to this location multiple times and have never been disappointed! The amenities and location cannot be beaten. From nearly every room you are overlooking the ocean. The family friendly activities keep everyone occupied; and of course, the adult activities are very good as well. The multiple pools and fitness centers are very accessible and very well organized. It is worth noting however, this is centered on a hill and may be difficult for some handicapped individuals to get around.
This was a pleasant surprise of a resort. Located near the Pelican Hills resort, Marriott's Newport Coast Villas is tucked high above PCH. The resort is quite large and a little confusing at first. However, once you figure out your way, it is perfection. Check-in was quick, easy and everyone was very friendly. The rooms were clean and spacious. This property is split up into numerous buildings. There are various parking lots/structures around the property for cars. Prior to your arrival, you receive an email asking for your preferences. Be specific so you get what you want. This is not an ocean front property, so be prepared to hike down the massive hill, or drive. I believe they may also have a shuttle that runs every so often. One downside is that if you have a room facing a parking lot, it can get rather noisy. Nevertheless, excellent property with lots of daily activities.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite with the grandparents for a week. The suite was spacious and well furnished. The resort was clean and the staff was great. The pool area was amazing and huge! There was plenty to do including ping-pong, kids areas, and multiple pools and hot tubs. The kids areas (The Sandbox and The Shack) were great areas to let the kids play games and participate in activities. The pool bar and restaurant were delicious and the staff was great. The drinks were delicious as well as the poolside food. The only downside to this resort was that it was so expansive. We stayed at one end and had to drive to the pool area. However, there are multiple fire pit and grill areas spread throughout with great views. There is also a shuttle service. Finally, if you are staying with people and have more than 1 vehicle, the others will have to find parking along the “streets” of the resort. This was a slight inconvenience due to where our suite was located. Overall a great place!
My first time staying here. The property was beautiful. Rooms were large and spacious. Full kitchen, fully furnished. Staff was friendly and very responsive. Parking can be a little difficult if you don't have the parking pass to park directly in front of the buildings. But otherwise, these rooms were very nice. Clean. Excellent place to stay!
My family (Gold Elite MVC Owners) hosted my stay at this resort to escape the heavy smoke of the Thomas Fire. I looked forward to my spacious ocean-view villa and the opportunity to have open windows and breath fresh air. Being on a second floor, with no one able to peer into my villa, I took advantage of the opportunity to keep the drapes/sheers, pulled back and windows open. To my surprise, the first morning of my stay, I was greeted by what sounded like a lawnmower outside my bedroom window, while I was bathing in the master suite. When I moved to the drawers to begin getting dressed, I looked at my window and a drone was buzzing a few feet from the window. It was the cause of the noise I had been listening to!. Through the open window, I overheard part of a conversation with the drone operator and someone else. The drone operator said that he could not only take pictures, but record video. Still in a state of undress, I panicked, hit the floor and crawled over to the nightstand. I called the front desk and asked if they had a drone policy. The front desk was not sure, but when I reported what was taking place outside my window with the peeping-tom drone, the woman said that she would notify security. I never did hear back on what happened, whether the person was apprehended, what the policy was, etc. Nothing. When I checked out the following morning, I inquired on a follow-up and learned that there is no drone policy (the neighboring Pelican Bay resort does have a formal policy restricting drones). The loss prevention coordinator informed me that they do have a guideline and that drones are allowed, but not in certain areas. I also learned that they protect the rights of drone operators. So there you have it, drone-friendly, at the risk of violating guest privacy. As a 3rd generation Marriott resident, I can say that my family and I are rethinking our loyalty to Marriott in the absence of flawed guest security.
This was our second time at Newport Coast Villas and we very much enjoyed our stay. The villas are really spacious with wonderful views of the coast. One negative is the lack of a fine dining onsite restauarant but there are many a short drive away. The shop onsite is also very expensive - only buy there if it's an emergency! Concierge is great and so helpful but one thing they don't mention that we would recommend is a day trip to LA as independent travellers. Irvine Amtrak rail station is only 13 miles away and an easy 25 minute drive from the resort. Great free parking at the station and only $18 each way to LA. In just over an hour you arrive at the beautiful historic Union Station. From there it's easy to get to lots of great sights in the Downtown area. We highly recommend the Walt Disney Concert Hall (amazing architecture), the wonderful Angels Flight Cog Railway and Grand Central Market (both featured in the movie La La Land). Take the Metro Underground train a few stops to The Grammy Museum and the Staples Centre. Then it's only a short distance to the California Science Centre with the amazing space shuttle exhibit. If you have time (or have another day in LA) take the Metro to Hollywood & Highland Station to visit the Chinese Theatre, The Dolby Oscars Theatre etc Easy to do, safe on the Metro, great fun!
As a Marriott Gold (6 nights from being platinum) member and MVC owner, I have n get been more disappointed in a resort. To begin with they didn’t call our correct number to get our preferences yet the onsite sales people sure had the right number! This place is incredibly overrated. The villas are common run of the mill places with cheap furnishings and horrible mattresses. There have been numerous small spiders all through our villa. One even crawled out of one of my toiletry bags on the 2nd morning. They don’t stock the proper number of towels for the number of people in the reservation. We were stuck in a dungeon like villa with no view. We were promised another room with a better view and never received it after we checked back with them in our 13 night stay! Outside our door is where housekeeping stored their bins of pool towels. There was constant water puddles outside of our door. There is NO customer service. We will never stay here again!!! Overrated and incredibly disappointed!
The Marriott Newport Coast is a superior facility. All rooms seem to be two bedroom, two bathroom suites with full kitchen, living room, dining room, and patio. As is the case in Marriotts we have visited, the facility, staff, and programs, are superior. This resort is very well located and has an hourly van to the beach. All the amenities one would expect at a superior resort are on hand. Although rated for up to eight guests, that would be a crowd. However, four to six would be no problem making this an excellent resort for a family get away. This resort has always pleased us and we return on a regular basis.
The only negatives are the water pressure and the cheap paper products in the Villas. The views and accommodations are wonderful and the staff is extremely pleasant. If you want a sales presentation make an appointment with Mike Machanick - very knowledgeable.
