A lovely hotel right by the station. An onsen in the hotel and our room had a view of the ocean. The beds were a bit hard for my liking but overall it was a great stay and would highly recommend!

Beppu

The location is amazing—literally walking distance from Beppu Station, which makes it easy to find once you get off the train. The amenities are great, the room is spacious, and the staff are very helpful. The only downside is the bed; it was hard and a bit uncomfortable, especially if you're staying for more than one night. Still, I would stay here again because I love the hotel's location.

The hotel is very well located opposite the train station with access to taxi and buses in the town centre area Easy access and food shops restaurants all close by Check in ok but have automated check in but staff have to support due to them not working or cards don’t read well so staff support there. They held bags till check in so we could explore Polite reception staff. It’s also an onsen so staff support that read notices or ask as we noted onsen does not allow tattoos so only 1 of group used it but good report and they enjoyed it Air conditioning poor took a while to get warm and not being cleaned for some time as full of dust could smell it when blowing air If your tall be aware the bathrooms are like cruise ship pods and could bang head Town was very enjoyable and well worth a trip and visit

Older style with modular bathrooms, mind the step! Larger rooms are comfortable smaller are very cramped ( stayed twice) . Excellent position for transport and sightseeing. Clean.

Overall, it was a good holiday. Hotel's Rotenburo (outside Onsen) was enjoyable and the hotel located very near to the station and convenient. However, compared to other Onsen towns (I went to Kinugawa Onsen and Hakone Yumoto Onsen), the eating out was much expensive and limited. Also it was not easy to travel for British due to language. They are focusing on Korean than English language. Jigoku meguri was must to do, and Yufuin was interesting to visit.

Gave us wrong room type and unwilling staff

We specifically booked a non-smoking room but when we got to the property, they gave us a smoking room and the smell of cigarettes were very strong. We were traveling with a toddler so there was no way we could stay there. We asked the front desk staff to change it for us but what we got was a shoulder shrug saying there was nothing they could do since all the other rooms were booked during the rugby world cup. We showed him a copy of the confirmation stating that we specifically selected the non-smoking room option and he just said bookings coming from this website are for smoking room type only and there was nothing else he was wiling to do.

I was recommended to visit Beppu by a woman who I met from Japan about 6 months earlier. It sounded like a good idea at the time. Problem with this place is that there is nothing there. I asked at the front desk for a restaurant. There were none. But honestly i am not sure that they spoke enough English or I enough Japanese to tell me the answer. There is a osen in the building and there is a constant stream of japanese co workers headed down there.I stuck my head in the changing room. Lots of naked Japanese men. A little too strange for me. My room had an inadequate shower that was connected to the sink.I left a day early although i was told I would have to pay for the 2nd night, which is a problem with the Hotels.com business model. I will no likely use Hotels.com again due to the "no cancel" policy. I was there during the Beppu Onsen festival which turned out to be nothing. There were English signs on the street saying that the Beppu curfew for those under 16 would be enforced. But why in English when the front desk of this hotel spoke "zero" english? Anyway that picture is not a real erruption. I got the heck out of Beppu and went to Hirishima, Mayajima a day early. It was a very good decision.
