When we checked-in we thought wow what an amazing hotel, that’s perfect in every way. However if you’re staying more than one night, be warned that our room had no storage space for clothes and only 2 clothes hangers. There’s one chair and no table, so for 2 people this could be an issue.
The bar and lounge are sealed off from 8pm to 8am, so you can’t make use of these facilities in the evening.
This is a lovely boutique hotel. The location was convenient to restaurants and a short drive away from the penguin encounters. The continental breakfast was good. The guest room was comfortable. The shower area had no glass enclosure or floor mats. The stone bathroom floor was quite wet after showering. This poses a safety hazard which was mentioned to the owners.
Boutique hotel in an older building, with an eclectic art collection and subtle steampunk theme. Superb host, comfortable room, great breakfast options & cycle-friendly
The Poshtel is truly a boutique hotel with only a handful of rooms that are all themed and unique. Rooms are a good size and very clean, but be prepared for a bit of noise (not too bad). The units fronting onto the main street have the usual traffic going by, and when we were put on the back side I thought it was a bonus - until the delivery trucks arrived to restock the grocery store, then the backup beepers started. That said, it wasn't too bad. The hotel itself and the staff (every one of them smiling and wonderful) easily made up for that tiny glitch. Breakfast in the morning was excellent. We would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Omaru.
Amazing experience! An excellent place to stay. Great continental breakfast. Easy walking distance to the historic Victorian precinct and many other stores, shops and cafés.

Worth a try!
Woman checking me in was stellar - the lobby fun and quirky as were the rooms.
Breakfast was ok, no recycling offered, no organic options. All sweet options.
Room was clean and fun, mattress felt lumpy and was saggy.
Although this property is very good and it has its own uniqueness, only thing is you can check in only after 2:00 pm. We went around 1:00 pm, no staff available, We have to come back after 2:00 pm.
It was right in town so walkable to everything. It had no parking so had to park on road or Woolworths car park, not ideal. We had room 4 on ground floor. The room was very small and dark with a panel of glass, not a window. Lots of memorabilia, which was interesting. It had ear plugs by the bed, was wondering why but you find out later a bit of noise in area. A continental breakfast was included with basic needs.
Fabulous old building that’s now quirky and fun, in a steampunk kind of way. Just be warned, the lounge closes at 8pm and there's a bit of road noise, but otherwise highly recommended.
