A couple of years back this place was taken over by a celebrity chef, and the standard plummeted - silly décor and silly menu. We stopped going. His ownership didn't last long, apparently. We went back for the first time this week and were impressed; very friendly staff (we recognised several who seem to have been there through the various changes) and decent food. Not a posey menu any more, but good sensible stuff. My wife said the liver and bacon was 'surprisingly good', and my Cajun skillet was pretty good, too. We are very glad that the place is back to its old standard.
We came here yesterday for breakfast (which was very good) and decided to come back for an evening meal. We were not disappointed. The food was first rate and the staff were attentive but not "in your face", which is what we appreciate. The menu itself had a very good selection with good portion sizes and very fair prices. All in all, well worth a visit
We found this hotel to be very homely and welcoming with comfy sofas and chairs in three different lounges. Our room was clean, nice comfortable bed, walk in shower, and contained everything we needed. ALL the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help make our stay enjoyable. We had four excellent breakfasts and three evening meals which were delicious, beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Karen was extremely helpful with regard to a severe allergy problem and went out of her way to make sure the food was suitable for the problem.Nothing was too much trouble . We would definitely stay there again.
Had an over night before a week on the Norfolk Broads. Clean rooms and good food all you need for an overnighter. Breakfast was first class and the evening meal very good I would recommend the hotel for a good evenings rest.
Arrived here on a Thursday and not prebooked, staff were polite and offered us a table in an area that wasn't officially opened as main restaurant was fully booked. The food was cooked to perfection ,I ordered the sizzling Cajun chicken which was very tasty and portion was substantial my wife had the Fish cake (home made) with chunks of tasty fish with two cakes which were also substantial as desserts I opted for the ginger ice cream and my wife had the Eaton Mess both were absolutely delicious. For 3 of us with main course, dessert and drinks the bill came to £66 which I think is extremely reasonable. But the most important of all this was the service, they went out of their way to make sure we did not need anything all through the evening as we were away from main restaurant. Will definitely return. WELL DONE TO ALL THE STAFF.
We booked this hotel at the last minute for a few days away and was very pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely comfortable room which overlooked the lake and breakfast is good, plenty of choice. The staff were very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. This hotel is very pet friendly. Thank you Sally and co for making our stay a really enjoyable one, see you again.
Stayed one night when I had business in Norwich the next day. Not really geared up as a business hotel (very small table to use as desk without enough power sockets), but suitable for an odd night. However in general a nice little hotel (15 rooms) if staying for leisure. Pub/restaurant downstairs offers decent food - I had fish and chips, and the fish was very good (the batter was some of the thinnest and crispiest I've ever had) but it was spoiled a little by the frozen chips. Good selection cooked to order at breakfast.
A lovely few days away in the Norfolk Broads. We stayed at this lovely comfortable hotel for a few days. It was very comfortable and friendly. We were half board so enjoyed a hearty breakfast in the morning and a lovely cooked dinner after our days out in the evening. Karen was extremely helpful giving us ideas of where to visit, the basking seals were amazing. We were able to walk the dunes and walk very close to them, it was a wonderful sight. Stalham town centre was very close by with a few individual shops and a a Tesco for day essentials and petrol. The hotel is very close by to Wroxham and Potter Heigham, Horning and other places around. Our room was very well equipped with tea and coffee facilities, hairdryer, alarm clock with USB points, very handy, and iron and board. The only down side were the pillows which could do with being replaced. The rooms downstairs off the bar area were very cosy in the evening with board games to hand, local and national papers, books and cosy comfy sofas where you could just relax. A very nice cosy quiet and restful place with good food too.
Sadly the reason for this visit was for the funeral of an old and dear friend. Stayed for two nights and was just perfect for our requirements, comfortable updated bedroom and bathroom , very comfortable nooks and cranies to sit after diner just what was required to discuse the days events. The food is good and reasonable and the staff could not have been more helpful i.e. organizing our room to be cleaned first to allow us time to get ready for the funeral . Look out in particular for Maria who buzzes around helping in all areas always smiling and also the lady on breakfast duty , very pleasent. My husband thought the full English breakfast was one of the best he's had and I was pleased to find eggs Benedict on the menu. Exceeded our expectations and we will return
A small hotel and pub style restaurant. Our room was small but very clean and quite adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant served a very good, freshly cooked full English breakfast. Pub type menu which was good. Only suggestion would be a better choice of starters. All food was very hot which makes a great change.
