I stayed for 4 nights for a leisure break. Staff were very pleasant and professional, breakfast was very nice, but a little crowded at times. Gym and swimming pool were great. Ground were very pleasant. Location was great for a relaxing few days. No free WiFi in the rooms is a bit strange in this day and age. I think this policy lets the Marriott down... If other major chains can provide, this policy seems to be little more than profiteering. The only downside other was being woken in the early hours one night by what sounded like a family having a fight outside my room. I guess this sort of thing happens and is beyond the control of the hotel.
The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the building itself is very impressive. The check in process was seamless and the reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Our family room was ok, with a good sized TV. The room itself was a bit stuffy but the windows can be opened enough to allow air in, and we had a free-standing air con unit also. Probably could have done with more than 2 teabags but I’m sure more would have been supplied on request. Bed was comfy enough, bathroom was clean with supplied toiletries, however, the water pressure in the shower was less than a caravan and not acceptable for this level of hotel. The leisure facility was very good, the pool was warm and the gym although not huge has enough to give you a good work out. We decided to eat elsewhere as the restaurant prices seemed very expensive, the few drinks we had in the bar were massively overpriced. The breakfast in the morning got very busy and all the hot food ran out, and it seemed to take an age to get more hot items out. The rest of the breakfast was standard fare, nothing special but adequate. Overall we enjoyed our stay but thought things could have been better considering the cost of a family room that didn’t allow us to check in until 3pm, significantly reducing our time to explore the hotel and it’s grounds and make use of the facilities as we desired.
Great location, easy access to Norwich, the broads and the coast. The setting is as beautiful as the pictures indicate so you settle in quickly. It’s comfortable throughout. Friendly obliging staff too. The afternoon tea was nicely presented but the lounge there is pretty cold and the sandwiches were thin in proportion and in number. It definitely seems calculated to leave you wanting a hotel dinner! To be fair we thus had a hotel bar meal and it was great quality and tasty. The pool is attractive and warm. It’s a pity though about the regular health club members who clearly think they own the place and that the hotel guests are quite an annoyance. Also, the locks on the changing room lockers are farcical with the staff sighing and saying “we know they don’t work....” Well, how about doing something about it then! 😊 One tip for an enjoyable simple pleasure is a trip to Easton Park where there’s a wonderful crazy-golf course, great play area, quirky tea room and plenty of room for a stroll. Overall we really enjoyed it and save for the afternoon tea we though it was good value. Thanks for a relaxing stay.
well when you go to Marriott you cannot go wrong! The Sprowston Manor is lovely. The room are the normal high standard Marriott room. We had a 4 post bed suite with a very large bath in which two very tall people fit really well. Perfect for a romantic get away! We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely too. Only downside was the pool and spa area. From 3.30pm to 8pm the pool was literally full of kids. I love kids so don;t get me wrong, but going to relax in the pool, steam room and sauna wasn't very relaxing with the background of screaming kids...
My booking said 1 adult so I rang the hotel to say we are two people, the gentleman who answered said don’t worry we will realise you are two because you have booked two double bedded room!!! At check in, I had been moved rooms because they thought I was one adult!! So much for my phone call. I have to say the lady on reception was brilliant, she sorted out my booking and we ended up with two rooms for the price of one and discount off our food! The room I had was super clean, the bed fantastic and two massive TVs! Nice hotel. Very busy with families. For a Marriott I would recommend that you make the bar area a bit more plush! Rubbish seating and needs to look cosier. Lighting the fire would have been nice! Needs refurbishing totally!!
Great weekend , i have been going back to Sprowston Manor for the last 5-6 years. my room was a little tired and could do with a little re vamp ( room 225 ) , hotel was a little cooler this year but still uncomfortably hot including the rooms , i had 52 people stay over the weekend and the one of the biggest gripes was how hot the rooms , corridors and restaurants are . But the biggest issue i had was the cost of a glass of wine , i never spotted it at first but it was £11.90 for a glass of sauvignon blanc , i purchased 3 glasses on the last night i was there and was given the bill for £35.90. It was Vidal sauvignon black which you can buy for £10 a bottle . this is extortionate. As i have said already , i had a 3 day event there every year and i ticks all the boxes that i require , nice staff , golf staff are spot on , markers was out , buggies was reliable etc etc, reception staff was pleasant even thou as i did walk past i overheard one mentioning my name saying " i was complaining " , the complaint i had was i had paid for a suite for one of my guests and he hadn't been given it , not a complaint more of an error that i was highlighting. To sum up , good hotel for the price , pleasant staff, reception nice , rooms slightly tired alcohol and drinks are over the top , golf and golf staff spot on ( and have been every year , Name check CHRIS ) , and the back room staff when booking was great to. i hope this gets a response as i use Marriott all over the world and i would be nice to hear from the new GM MH.
Our visit did not include an overnight stay so this review by no means reflects on the room facilities, we attended a Charity Ball in the marquee around the back. On approaching the hotel you cannot help but be amazed by the striking building, on ordering your first drinks you will be equally amazed by the mark up on everything, easily one of the most expensive bars we have used, wine was ridiculously overpriced. The bar service also was not reflective of my expectations, the team appeared inexperienced, which is also true of the service staff. The food again did not reflect our expectations. Our review is based on similar events at other locations so I feel it is fair and I would have liked it to be much more positive, likewise the costs wouldn’t have been such as issue had we have felt like it was the special experience that we have enjoyed elsewhere. This experience will ensure that we will have to really think before supporting another charity Ball hosted at Sprowston Manor. Train your team and align your pricing and this would be a great location.
Always liked the afternoon tea here, but really cross that they have started adding a service charge. Now I am more than happy to leave a tip if excellent service has been given. Perhaps fair enough if there was a lot of guests at one table, but for a couple of people? Also they tell you that they can remove the charge if you wish. YES I wish. But this makes me so uncomfortable and I'm sure it makes the staff uncomfortable.
Visited Sprowston Manor with a friend during October half term. The hotel offered a friendly welcome, although we would of liked more detail on what there was to explore locally. We found this information from the array of leaflets on offer. The hotel room was a very good size, with a modern bathroom and both were very clean. The hotel breakfast buffet had good variety and was very nice. The staff were welcoming. The hotel pool and spa were lovely. The only downside here was that it was often busy with children. The hotels location made it a very good place to explore Norwich from and discover Norfolk. The hotel bar was quiet but a quaint place to relax and chat. Would recommend to friends and family.
This hotel was lovely for a quiet get away. The rooms are clean and spacious with a large tv with good choice of channels. The pool area is very relaxing with a sauna and steam room, there are also comfortable loungers along the outer edge of the pool. The gym area has a variety of equipment. We ate in Cast Iron for dinner the food was ok with not a lot of choice but the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommended this hotel and I will be returning again.
