Lovely quiet hotel, minutes from the promenade. Not beautiful from the front, but amazing views from rooftop terrace and pool. Restaurant on 8th floor, great hot buffet breakfast. Our room was at the rear but with balcony, table and chairs, still a pleasant view over city.
we stayed here for 4 nights for a short break. All staff were fantastic, very friendly, helpful and polite. our room was very spacious and clean with a balcony overlooking the street. The bathroom was very clean and again large. All amenities were there that you would need e.g. iron/board, kettle, safe, shower gel. breakfast and meals are served on 8th floor which has a great view overlooking the city, food was varied and good. Pool was small but as the water was so cold not many people went in! there are sun loungers around the pool but if this is full there are more situated higher up on another level. There was also a hot tub but the area was closed due to refurbishment. you can park at the hotel for €24 per day, very expensive however there isn't much room on the streets, also as breakfast is included it evens itself out. There is a spa in the hotel but we did not get to use this as the prices were high. Prices in the bar on 8th floor are very dear €4.50 for a small bottle of pepsi, i would recommend going to the carrefour supermarket a few minutes walk away. Location is great about 5-10 minutes walk to the beachfront, the scenery is stunning. i would stay at the hotel again in future.
Location, quite good close to beach and old town. Staff was friendly and changed us to other room without problems. Our first room had terrible noise poisoning like someone was constantly drilling. Plus goes to good breakfast, with veggies, potatoes and many other tasty foods. Service at breakfast was also great. In april the pool was freezing cold and pool area was stuffed with used dishes and looked not as clean and inviting. Rooms look old and in need some update to modern age. Rooms where clean. Best points go to the friendly staff. If you ask would I return, then probably not, because of old interior.
The positives: The service at the reception and for breakfast were very friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable enough with a jacuzzi tub, a balcony, and a spacious bed. It was also cleaned every day. Les positives: Le service a la reception ètait très sympatique. La chambre était assez confortable, avec une baignoire jacuzzi, un balcon et lit spacieux. The negatives: Service for dinner and at the bar was disappointing and borderline unfriendly. Dinner was good but a bit overpriced. The room was very warm and there was no Air conditioning (especially worrisome since we were staying with our baby). The rooftop pool was very cold. Les négatifs: Le service au bar et au dinner était pas très accueillant. Le diner était bon mais un peu cher. La chambre était très chaude et il y avait pas de AC. L'eau de la piscine était très froide.
4th time staying at the Splendid. Got a free room upgrade on arrival to a deluxe room. Room (316) has been recently refurbished with a new bathroom which has a whirlpool bath and rainfall shower. Sleep was only slightly marred by the noisy people in the next room who managed to wake me up at 02:00. Not the Hotel's fault though! Breakfast is standard and was included in the price of my room. Still here and eating at L'Essenciel, the 8th floor restaurant this evening before my flight home tomorrow. Worth a mention are the Reception staff and Thierry the concierge. Nothing was too much trouble for Thierry and never has been at any time I've stayed at The Splendid. He deserves a pay rise! Le Directeur M.Tschann should be very proud of having a great hotel and wonderful staff. I've tried other hotels in Nice but always return to The Splendid and will do for many years to come,
We loved our stay here in Sept. 5 mins walk to the beach and 15 mins walk to the main tourist square, with plenty of restaurants along the way. Easy to get to from the airport by bus. Just get off at the Hard Rock Cafe. Rooms are nice. Absolutely loved the roof top pool, great views, very relaxing. Went to some bars in the old town about 20 mins walk away, then went to High Club. It was €10 entry but I enjoyed myself. Can get the train to Cannes for the day, station is 10 mins walk. Overall great holiday and lovely hotel.
I stayed here for three nights in February and was very pleased with this hotel in many ways. It was easy to find from either the 99 airport bus stop outside the rail station or from the 98 bus stop at Congres promenade. From both these stops either turn right with your back to the station or turn left with your back to the sea and walk on Meyerbeer. The Hotel Splendid is an impressive site on a street corner. My reception was with a smile and help to my room on the 5th floor. It was a very clean room and with a west facing balcony overlooking rooftops and views to surrounding hillsides. The room was comfortable and clean, had electric blinds, an (empty) fridge, an armchair and a large double bed with lots of pillows and cushions. The room was the right size for one person but I think two would have been a bit of a squeeze. However, I had only asked for a single, so all was well. There was a good supply of hot water for the shower and bath, there was a shower gel fitting over the bath which worked very well, hand wash and cream but very little else. Towels could have been of better quality as a 4 star hotel but overall my room was good. Breakfast taken on the 8th floor had a good choice of foods and drinks and even a boil your own eggs machine! As others have said, views from the dining room were very special and the hotel has made good access here to use as a photography site and a good place to go to drink your coffee. This area was also where in summer you can walk round to the pool, with lots of comfortable seating. It will be a great spot in summer and there is a restraunt here too. All the staff I encountered at the Splendid were very helpful with all my requests and offered a room to leave my luggage on my last morning which I spent on a rail trip to Monaco - highly recommended. There is a half hourly train service to both Monaco and also Cannes from Nice along the scenic coast route. Although there is renovation work going on at the hotel at the moment, which I knew about, there was no sign of dust or dirt anywhere and care had been taken to keep the hotel working very well. All in all, the Splendid was an excellent choice of hotel and I am sure that when all the work has been completed (including a 'snagging' process - tidying paint edging, door renovation, sealant under wash basin etc.) that it will fully deserve its 4 star rating. Thanks to management and all staff there, I will return to the Hotel Splendid soon, and even try their spa. Well done.
Service and facilities quite good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Being winter, some facilities were not operating, but views from the roof were wonderful. Restaurant and bar were great with good food and drinks. Only drawback, lifts were being repaired which made coming and going tricky. Should be a temporary issue.
My Company put me in a luxury room. The bed and sofa were great but the TV did not fully work for two days (although there were two TV). However, the staff was helpful. The rest of the room was excellent especially the bubble bathtube. The only problem is the breakfast which is very limited but the views from that room are very good.
My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at the hotel, good and bad points below: Good Points: 1. Location, location, location! It was perfect for everything. 10 mins from the airport, very central on the promenade, 5 mins walk to the train station, 10 mins walk to old town nice. Lots of bars and restaurants and shops surrounding the hotel also if you cannot walk far. 2. staff were very friendly and polite. 3. the spa was lovely (Celine the spa manager does amazing manicures and is very polite). 4. free wifi for a week, it is a good speed to! Not so good points: 1. the hotel is having a lot of work done on it, the lobby area and spa are beautiful but the rooms and corridors are very dated and need refurbishing. 2. IT'S VERY NOISY! we were kept up until 12:30am with a VERY loud disco in the hotel, we were not warned that this was going on which was a shame as we were very tired from travelling. you can also hear conversations and other noises from people in the neighbouring rooms which kept us awake on another night.
