Great location, walking distance to downtown, great restaurants and more. Parking is tight and you might have a bit of a walk to the elevator for your building. Carts were available in the elevator lobby but we didn't realize it until we had already walked our luggage down. The suite is narrow, which makes furniture placement and lighting interesting. The size worked for us as we really didn't need all the space. Being off-season, the outdoor pool was closed, but we tried the indoor pool and sauna. The pool is on the smaller side and, note for families, the deep end starts quickly. Stayed midweek off-season so it was a great value.
This is unlike most of resorts you will find in the Wyndham portfolio, or anyone else's. Here are what to expect. 1) Parking on site for 2 cars. Parking is very difficult in Newport, esp. during peak summer season. You can walk to almost everything, except the mansions and the ocean cliff walk. 2) The 4 separate buildings are vertically organised, such that there is an elevator n a pair of stairs for every cluster of units. Pro, your unit has windows on both ends, so there is ready cross ventilation and every unit can see the water. Con, there is an elevator room on the top floor and if your unit is next to it, you hear it working every time someone calls for it. Ask for a room NOT adjacent to the machine room. 3) It's spacious and oblong, overtly so, the layout didn't make great use of the space with proper furniture; the designer was stuck doing the standard and older Wyndham style, might as well be in Williamsburg, absolutely no nautical references. For heaven's sake, it's on the water at the marina! The full-kitchen isn't up to par with newer properties. My wife would hate to cook in it, but might as well, why cook while on vacation, but that's not the point. It should be well appointed. Setting is for 8 people, though not enough beds for 8, it's definitely big enough to fit 8. 4) They are slowly renovating the property & working on the exterior as well. It's time, if you walk into common area where there is an indoor pool and sauna or tiny gym, you will know what I mean. There is no amenity here, for that, go to the other property at Long Wharf. But I would have to say, the exterior of the building is quite handsome and varied in its profile, feels right at home on the water by the marina. 5) Though the staff was courteous and most helpful in getting things sorted out, I was trying to add a night beyond my original booking then once all set my wife changed her mind, I can't understand why in a mostly deserted resort (end of March), we were assigned an end unit, all the way at the other end away from the water, on the top floor, next to an elevator machine room. I mean, there is almost nobody there! Why wouldn't they hand out the best available room? 6) Know this, which they should have told me, after regular office hours (during the non-peak season), you have to go over to the Harbour Inn for check-in, it's a short walk, but if you didn't know, in the dark so you drive, but it's in the other direction in a one-way street. Such a simple thing to note! And to think that the resort actually called a week before we arrive to say hi and confirm that we are coming. Don't drive up the ramp between buildings onto the tight entrance parking area there, it's really hard to manoeuvre. Just walk over. You can't really get a better location when it comes to Newport, esp. for a resort. Otherwise, I would stay at the Long Wharf instead, it's much more interesting, varied, and boasts quite a bit of on-site recreational amenities, though that costs more points. I am scheduled to be there 2 months later, will review it then.
The unit we were in had a lose ceiling because of water damage above. The unit above ours we visited and loading dishes was not fastened into the slot for dishwasher. When both shelves were out the dishwasher would fall forward. The design of the room we were in I really liked The parking is not acceptable i requested to park away from the building since it is very difficult to get in and out of the lot. The cement poles are too easy to hit with the car. The units are drafty, this location all the fire places were shut down because of The Station Fire in February 2003. I have been to this venue numerous times, Fairfield had a better maintenance program, then Wyndham. I will visit I would never buy or recommend anybody buy a time share.
We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Newport. We were traveling with our 90 year old Mom and this place had everything we needed to make her stay GREAT! The location was spot on. All the rooms had a fantastic view of the bay. It was neat and clean and had all the comforts of home. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals including a dishwater. I would highly recommend the Wyndham Newport Onshore to everyone. What a great place! Can't wait to visit again.
We stayed for a weekend during Newport Winterfest. First let me say that despite other reviews you CAN check in later than 6. We arrived at 8pm and checked in with no issue. The unit is very large and laid out so that the bedrooms are separate which is nice. The finishes are showing wear and could use an update, especially in the bathrooms but the unit was clean and the view we had was very nice. The master bedroom facing the water only has blinds so you will get up with the sun. Our parking spot was very tight, had we brought a vehicle bigger than the sedan, we would have had to park in the uncovered lot, not an issue but just a comment. We did not use the indoor pool but saw others using it and it looked nice. The location is convenient to shops and restaurants. We normally travel for quick trips with just 2 of us so not sure we would have the occasion to stay again but should we return with friends, we would certainly consider it.
This is the second Christmas I've stayed at the Wyndham. Great location on Thames Street. Easy walking to everything. The room was pretty spacious and nice. However, very drafty windows. All the comforts of home in the kitchen .
I loved that I didn't have to wait for my late risers to go out and walk along the historic waterfront and shops. Its in the middle of it all. I could be out for a morning stroll and back before they even missed me. There are many restaurants within a few blocks (some of the best even) It is much easier to walk then to navigate the narrow roads and search for parking. Even in the winter when it is not as busy, parking downtown can be difficult. This resort offers one (and only one) parking spot to guests. The accomodations are spacious and clean. One room had two twin beds which my tall girls felt were rather short but very comfortable. That room had a closet with the heater so it was rather loud when it switched on. The Master bathroom was large and comfortable as well. The Unit had 2 decks one on either side, one of which looks over the docks and water. the decks were large and had a 6 person table on each to enjoy outdoor meals. They were covered so you could be out there even in the rain. The kitchen was full sized and stocked with the things needed to cook meals. The kitchen cupboards were showing their age with the veneer at the corners starting to peel and some of the knobs were barley hanging on, however it was clean and functional for a large family such as ours. An apartment size washer and dryer is located in each unit which is very useful. They stocked it with 2 packets of detergent to get you through the visit. There is a covered heated pool which is open even in the winter and an outdoor one for the summer season. The best part of this hotel is that you don't really have to drive anywhere unless you want to go to the grocery store or the mansions. It is also a place we could entertain our local family.
We stayed here for my birthday weekend. There were five of us in a three bedroom. The suite was two floors with three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. There was a full kitchen a dining area and living room. There were three decks with one of them overlooking the ocean and pool area. The kids loved the indoor pool. We’d love to stay again in the summer to take advantage of the outside deck area. With the full kitchen we made breakfast and lunch for the kids each day. Rooms were very spacious. A little dated but there is some refurbishing going on in another building. We had our own assigned parking spot close to the entrance. We will definitely be back.
Checking into this place can be a bit of a challenge. They run multiple offices and the one on site is often closed so you must go up the block a bit to register and check in. The assigned parking is very tight if you drive an SUV but it's mostly under cover and not too far from the elevator. There are multiple buildings and your parking is usually close by. The condo was in good condition and well supplied. The views from the veranda as well as the small deck off the kitchen presented views of the best yachts in the marina area. A close walk to many restaurants but if you are touring the Preservation Societies homes you probably need transportation.
Perfect location for girls weekend. There were 5 of us and we loved our apartment (2 bedroom 2 bathroom w/pull-out sofa). We were able to walk everywhere downtown (restaurants, bars etc). There is also free parking BUT we only had one car so it might cost if you have 2 or more cars. Everything was very clean. There are beautiful views from every window (we were on the 3rd floor). I will definitely stay here again. The only thing is the check-out time is so early (10:00 am). We asked for a late check-out and got to stay until 10:30 hahaha. I Love Newport - It’s a very friendly city, beautiful, with a very interesting history.
