We stayed here for our honeymoon and were not blown away. Our original room was terrible. The next day they upgraded us to a decent room. The property is far from town and even though it's near the water the beach isn't great for swimming/lounging. Beautiful area to explore, but again you are near nothing (we rented a scooter). The breakfast was good with a pretty area to eat and the pool is very nice. The staff was bizarre, in particular the main manager. On the third night of our stay we ended up staying in Santorini (where we had taken a day trip to), when we returned the next day we were greeted with stern lectures for not calling them to tell them we wouldn't be coming back that evening. It was strange.
We stayed for the last week of September (just before the hotel closed for the winter), and it was wonderful: totally relaxing and quiet, facing the sea with several beautiful beaches within a few minutes' walk. The hotel is very modern and comfortable, with spacious rooms. All the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, and scrupulously polite. Breakfast was just amazing: a huge buffet with all sorts of freshly-prepared food every morning (and it was just as good even in the last couple of days, when there were only a handful of guests left in the hotel). They continue serving breakfast until 11 am, so you can enjoy a relaxed morning. Dinner in the hotel restaurant is excellent, but there are also some other great tavernas nearby. (Do try the Taverna Trapezaki, a couple of minutes' walk down the beach road from the hotel.) The only thing we didn't like was that in the afternoons there was often music playing (mostly Greek pop or folk music) in the bar by the pool. Since the balconies of all the rooms look onto the pool, this meant that the only way to avoid the music was to completely close the balcony doors. That's not great if you were hoping to relax and read a book on the balcony. But apart from that, I can't recommend this hotel enough.
We stayed at Finikas in August with our 2 children. The place is very well kept and offers very high quality. Room was always cleaned well, the garden is amazing with fantastic sunbeds, service is professional. But, what we were missing is the atmosphere, there is a complete lack of ownership and personality. Apparently the place is family owned, but I don't recall having met the owners or seen them around, which is somewhat strange for high season. All staff is well trained but yet very distanced, which made the whole experience somewhat unpersonal. Even though there were many other families with kids, we wouldn't call this a very kids-welcoming place. The restaurant offers great breakfast, but I wouldn't recommend it for dinner. It's completely overpriced for what it serves and you can find much better restaurants around for half the price. The pool has salt water, just something to note. Beach is just in front of the hotel, but is not the nicest in the area. But within a few minutes you can find very nice and quiet beaches. As it can be very windy, the hotel is well located and designed, as it offers good protection from the wind, which makes it a nice place to relax when you come back from the beach.
I stayed for 5 nights in August with two young teens. I would definitely recommend this hotel, though travelers need to know what to expect. You are about 30 minutes from the main town via taxi (about 50 min. via bus, which conveniently stops right in front) so if you're looking for a city environment or a lot to do in walking distance, this is not the place for you. The beach in front of the hotel, while pretty, isn't that great for swimming, but there are fantastic swimming beaches a short distance away (or about a 15-20 minute walk). Beach tip - we loved the beach at the end of the dirt road where they rent umbrellas; fabulous big sandy beach great for swimming. The hotel was filled with families with kids enjoying the pool when we were there, which was great for us, but if you want a quiet adult place, I would look elsewhere. That said, the location was absolutely lovely and there are 3 good restaurants right there (including the hotel's restaurant, which is pricey). The rooms were spotless but are not that big - upgrade if you want more space. We found the staff to be great, going out of their way at every turn to help out. If you rent a car (which you really do need if you intend to do any exploring), definitely have it delivered to the hotel (which they will happily do) so you avoid the extra taxi ride into town. Also know that you are expected to be there when they deliver the car, even if it's at 10:30 in the evening the night before your rental actually starts (seems obvious but we weren't really planning on it). If you're looking for a somewhat remote, quiet (except for families) place, I would highly recommend the Finikas.
I don't think we have been made to feel more welcome at any hotel, ever. The staff at Finikas work tirelessly to make sure that your holiday is as relaxing as it can possibly be, thanks to Sandy especially. On the subject of relaxation, this is what we came to Naxos and Finikas for, peace and quiet. The fact that the hotel has superb accommodation, air con (essential in 37 degrees heat), a great pool and a one minute walk over to the azure, transparent sea is a massive bonus. The area 'Pyrgaki' is not a hub of activity, it is an area of tranquility. If you are looking for nightlife then maybe Naxos Town / Chora would be more to another's liking but we were happy to drive in with our kids (25 minutes away) a couple of times to eat at great restaurants such as Meze by the Harbour. Regarding the area, the best Taverna in the area is called Trapezaki (about a 300 metre walk) a review will be posted separately sufficed to say, no menu, broken English, fresh local food everyday which may or may not be available based on what is caught that morning etc. a daft thing to say but the tomatoes have to be eaten to be believed either in the Greek salad or stuffed with rice and roasted - simple and incredibly delicious. Going back to Finikas, the rooms are cleaned daily, the breakfast is varied and our kids munched their way through three breakfasts most morning and developed a love of fruit which is no bad thing. Thanks Vicky for your incredibly attentive and cheerful service! All in all, this is a review that we considered not writing to try and keep this little treasure a secret but that would not be fair for the owners or the staff, all I hope is that there is an apartment available for us next summer as Naxos is a great place to base yourself to visit the Small Cyclades Islands as well as Santorini. Just make sure you remember your snorkeling equipment and sun cream then you will delight in the natural beauty of the surrounding bays.
We stayed for 5 nights and had a standard room (205) and a standard suite (204). Both had excellent balconies with a pool and sea view. (Standard suite seemed a little small for an adult and 2 teens - probably perfect for a couple and small child). Otherwise, except for hard mattresses and somewhat inconsistent toiletry and towel restocking, the rooms were fine, extremely quiet and absolutely spotless. The staff were friendly and helpful (in a calm, laid back beach town sort of way) We stayed during their high season and hotel packed to the gills, primarily with French and Italian families. So a great family hotel with the pool and lots of room to roam around. We loved the isolation and rest for the first two days of hanging around the pool and walking to the beach as it was the mid point in our travels and we needed some down time. As other reviews have indicated, you can access the ocean from the sandy beach (with rocks in the water) just in front of the pool but easy 10 minute walk to lovely sandy beaches in either direction. If you go a little further on the left as you leave the hotel you can rent sun lounges and umbrellas for a nominal fee which was helpful as it was so hot (even with the wind) We ate at the hotel, the taverna on the beach to the left as you leave the hotel and at Noto Taverna to the immediate right of the hotel. The food at the hotel was excellent - the chef is very talented - it was just a little expensive for every day. Noto and the other taverna were just fine - not as cheap as I expected but it is high season in a somewhat isolated location. And at all three places it was a real treat to basically be eating on the beach. We rented a car for the other few days and drove into Naxos Town and elsewhere on the island. As others have said, the hotel made the reservation and had the car dropped off/picked up at the hotel which was very handy and saved us a lot of time. It's a big island with a lot to do and see and I wished that we had stayed for a full week at the Finikas. It was handy to have the car even if driving to a nearby restaurant. The only real problem we had was getting to an early flight (715am) to Athens - the hotel had made a taxi reservation the day before for a 6am pick up but the guy never showed up. And there was no way to reach anyone at the hotel for help as the front desk was closed. (we could have called a taxi ourselves but by the time it was obvious that no one was coming, there wouldnt have been time for them to get from Naxos town) We harassed the poor gardener (who didnt speak English) for 30 minutes until he managed to rouse one of the hotel owners and she zipped us to the airport in time to make our flight. (Thank you Elena!) It turned out ok but very stressful as I had a flight home the next morning. This was of course not the hotel's fault - But I would recommend that the hotel post a number to call in case of emergencies at night or in the am. I didn't see one in the room, on the door of the reception or in any of our paper work. Other than the last minute stress, we had a very nice, restful time and would certainly go back again.
First time in my life I received mussels when ordered pasta a la vongole ! The problem was not the mistake itself but the attitude ! Neither the chief or the manager came to see us. They have offered the diner but the only thing I wanted was having my vongole...it was not written seafood pasta on the menu but pasta a la vongole. And I got pasta with mussels.....
Most of the rooms do NOT have sea view and often the booked room is not available. I had 5 pages of email-exchange and 2 long phone calls with them to find exactly the room we wanted with perfect sea view. What we got you can see on the picture! Very disappointing and the manager "couldn't do anything". It was not a question of price or discount. I just wanted the room we booked 3 month before.
Great hotel located in the southern part of Naxos, away from the Naxos town but quite nearby couple of famous beaches. If you want to escape from a rush of big cities - perfect place to stay and enjoy the hotels pool, where you can easily order drink and snacks from really professional staff, or maybe try some seafood dishes from hotel restaurant with perfect sea view. This hotel is more about romantic or relaxing staying, however if you want to travel around - you still can order a cab or rent a car straight from the hotels reception.
Came here to spend 2 days We invited another couple. Asked for 2 rooms with ocean views. The reservation was confirmed 2 rooms with ocean views Big surprised When we arrived The rooms did not have ocean views I spoke to the manager ... Her answer was " that's how we sell the rooms " WITH OCEAN VIEWS Sorry but we don't have other kind of rooms. I Said. You are lying to people ! You can't charge for ocean views when there is not ocea views from the rooms Other than that. The rooms are nice Food ok service ok Abe yes the beach is across the street
