Manager and staff were super friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious. Traditional sleeping mat was very comfortable and I probably got my best night's sleep while on this trip. Walls are a little thin, but all guests were quiet and respectful of others. Baths looked great but unfortunately didn't get to use them. With size 15 feet I wouldn't expect any of the hotel slippers to fit. We had excellent meals within a 5 minute walk. Really enjoyed Yamanouchi!

It was really nice, we had 2 rooms for our family and one of the room had a private hot spring (I think they only have it in the first floor). When you’re booking it’s better to book the rooms in one name if you’re planning on multiple rooms, so that way they can put you guys together but it was fine because we got one room with an Onsen. They also park your car for you because they have their own parking space and they give back your keys at check out.

Amazing stay

Amazing stay. The gentleman at the front desk who spoke great English was lovely, he helped us with everything and was also attentive during our kaiseki dinner, helping explain everything. We had a tatami room, it was nice, the bathroom a little dated, but the onsen was fabulous. The outdoor onsen was beautiful. Loved our stay here and can recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here for the ryokan experience and to visit the snow monkeys which we perfectly achieved. The dinner was a masterpiece with so many small dishes I couldn’t count. The staff were lovely and helped get us to the snow monkeys for opening time and arranged to collect us to drop us back to the station which was so appreciated.

Relaxing trip to Yudanaka

Wonderful stay in Yudanaka Hotel Housei. Everything from check in to check out was superb. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They drove us to the Snow Monkey park and to the train station. The breakfast buffet was delicious with so many traditional foods. Onsen was relaxing after a cold day walking around. Will be back!

Lovely ryokan experience

Great hotel, really nice and accommodating staff. It's a great way to have a traditional ryokan experience. Great size room, and great location for the small town. Really good value for what you get, we would love to come back.

Great central location in Yamanouchi

This is a great family friendly hotel. We booked a room with a private onsen which was absolutely worth the extra cost. The hotel has a shuttle which will take you to/from the Yudanaka station and the snow monkey park. This was a great place to stay.

Staying at the hotel was a unique Japanese experience. Outdoor onsen was magical. Freezing out of the water, but lovely and warm in the water. There was a Japanese garden around the bath. Staff were friendly and had a good sense of humour. There was a free shuttle to the station and the snow monkey park. The hotel was only 8 minutes walk from the station. We loved the size of the rooms. The views from the rooms were spectacular too. However, most staff cannot converse well in English hence do note. Loved the onsen. Only issue was that our request in getting extra towels was rejected.

Hidden Gem: Hotel Housei in Yudanaka

We discovered a lovely gem in Yudanaka, Hotel Housei, a mere 7-minute walk from Yudanaka Station. For added convenience, the hotel offers complimentary pickup and drop-off services from the station with prior arrangement. The hotel's personalized touch impressed us: - Complimentary shuttle services to and from the famous Snow Monkey park at our desired times - Spacious rooms with beautiful tatami mats and stunning outdoor/indoor onsen facilities The dinner was exceptional – Sukiyaki beef. Breakfast was traditional Japanese-style, adding to the authentic experience. Hotel Housei exceeded our expectations, and we would love to return. Additional amenities include a spacious waiting lobby.

Wonderful base to explore the Yamanouchi area

Wonderful ryokan-style hotel. Stayed for 2 nights with half-board, and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were excellent. The staff were attentive and engaging, taking the time to introduce the dinner menu to us. Chose this place for my children's first ski experience. Just a 30-minute drive to Shiga Kogen where all the ski resorts are. The hotel offers both indoor and outdoor onsens. Simply superb for a hot, relaxing soak after a day on the ski slopes. Highly recommended!
