Golden Tulip Dar Es Salaam3.5 out of 5.0

We stayed at the Golden Tulip 3 different times during a recent trip to Tanzania. The Golden Tulip is past it’s prime, but it is clinging to former glory by running various events. If you are a traveler, this means you can expect loud music and revelry that last until 5am if you’re staying with them on certain weekends. New Years Eve was a perfect example, when there were a bank of speakers placed below our balcony that played thudding bass until 5am - which I know because the DJ was lamenting that the party was over and mentioned the time quite a bit. The music in our room was deafening. The facility is worn, but serviceable. The rooms are clean, most of the staff is friendly, and they included a breakfast buffet that was quite nice. We did check in one night to find there was no cold water. The issue was resolved, but only after several calls and a visit to the front desk. These kind of issues are not uncommon in Tanzania, and this isn’t the kind of facility that has infrastructure that protects it from outside failures. It could have been handled better by the staff, who first said it was a problem with the room, then admitted the entire building was having the issue due to some maintenance issue and then actually took care of the problem. It would have been much easier if they’re attitude was more forthcoming. The Golden Tulip is a decent facility, and if you’re accepting of life in Tanzania, you’ll find it a reasonable accommodation.
The friendly, helpful staff is a great feature of this hotel. Views from the garden towards the sea at the entry to Dar es Salaam ports are stunning. Great breakfast. All in all a good choice. xxxxxx The friendly, helpful staff was one of the best features of this hotel. The room was clean and light, with a comfortable bed, and great view of the sea across the attractive garden. Although the location was a little outside the centre of Dar, the beachside location at the entrance to Dar es Salaam port and estuary, made up for this. Traffic could be a problem, but only as one got close to the city centre. Good conference facilities, with everything needed to host a medium-size event. Free, unlimited WiFi, with reasonable bandwidth was available in both bedroom and public areas. As a hotel used for events, it could be noisy in the evenings, but this never went on beyond midnight, and was only occasionally a problem.
the location is good, in Masaki, the pool is nice but the rest is not nice,, rooms are old and not well equiped. The service is slow,,, even for tanzania... i stayed 2 times 1 night but i wont go back there. Outside is nice. but no worth stay there.
Rooms are below average, bathroom is OLD and outdated, and dilapidated because of cracks and grim buildup etc. Hotel felt deserted, not much in terms of restaurants. They wanted to charge for ICE! THIS hotel is only quiet - because it had so few guests.
In Golden Tulip, you can enjoy awesome view. We had business meeting in this place.Even Banquet hall is also large and good.Got nice GYM too.Beach was very close from this place.Service is really awesome. Nice food. We had Lunch which was good.
The location of the hotel is good, with an excellent view of the ocean. The rooms are 2-star level, probably lower, presumably because the hotels is a little bit old, but I think no one there pays attention to refurbishments or renovations. No flat screen TVs in the rooms!! Only a box TV that never worked the entire time of our stay. Wi-Fi was also very unreliable, and the conference rooms had no telephones so if you needed something while in a meeting you'd have to physically go downstairs to the reception to ask. Their conference package offers new 70 sheet shorthand notebooks and pens for each day of the conference (unnecessary, in my view). We requested to have more bottles of water in place of the notebooks and pens but they were adamant that the new notebooks each day was policy. I found the management very rigid in the sense of wanting to stick to policy without caring whether that policy actually works for the users of their conference package. Some of the staff were very friendly though - unfortunately they were not the key decision makers so it didn't help much.
By looking after location and pictures of this hotel everyone will love to book this property. But sorry to say except location and view, this hotel has nothing to offer. Rooms are like two star category hotels and is far away from golden tulip properties. Breakfast was v normal and it was not at all good.
The view and location by the Indian Ocean is breathtaking with amazing sunsets and inspiring sunrise . Warm hospitable staff with good food including local , European and Asian dishes . Housekeeping deserves credit- beyond expectations . Reception staff are cheerful and the Front Desk Manager very helpful and courteous . Rooms well maintained . The Kampala suite was amazing . Highly recommended for weddings , events or just pure leisure - relax , refresh and rejuvenate !
My Wife and I were booked to stay from 6th Sept.2017 to 13th Sept.2017. We arrived very late approx. 11.30pm to check-in the hotel. A very polite receptionist checked his computer record and advised me that only a single occupancy even though I provided him with my own printouts of the booking. From here on it was a downhill experience as the room had several faults that could not be put right just after midnight. We were at approx.1.30am offered yet another room which was slightly better than the first room.On complaining to the reception staff we did not get much satisfaction. We finally got to know a very nice pleasant young lady by the name of Neema Cornelia(Guest Relations Manager) who was very obliging from our first complaint onwards. As soon as the faults were reported to her and within few hours they were fixed to our satisfaction. As far as the hotel rooms are concerned we found them to be very tired looking and could be improved. As far as the resort is concerned it was in a very pleasant place to stay. We take this opportunity to thank Neema for her excellent knowledge and expertise in customer relations and getting the job done and keep guests happy. Without Neema's help out stay at Golden Tulip would have been a disaster.
The hotel was nice and clean. The staff was polite. However, this hotel was very strict and money hungry. We came to Dar to meet up with friends and family, and no one was allowed to our room. We wanted to hang out at the resort and they made it so hard for us to have any guests unless we paid for them as if they were staying with us, and they weren't.
