Having stayed at this property at least three times in the past, I was a bit underwhelmed this time.My feeling is that the new ownership (Accor) does not understand the value of these Fairmont hotels and is letting them die on the vine. Fairmont used to be good to reward loyal travelers with suite upgrades, Gold floor upgrades, etc.
The new Accor program is awful.
The new owners Accor also charge much higher rates (>$100 more) on their website so I booked this stay at a MUCH cheaper rate on Orbitz. But because I did so, as a loyal Accor member, I did not receive points for my stay! Just little things like that are disappointing. There has been an outdoor pool remodel, but that money could have been put to better use on the rooms.
The old Fairmont website had in depth details, a dedicated concierge page, and lots of information. Now the only source of information was the front desk- very helpful and hospitable, but why have a webpage if I have to trouble staff every time I have a simple question? If I hadn’t stayed here many times before, I would have been clueless.
Anyway, not to be a downer, we actually enjoyed our stay and the staff were superior. But you can see the writing on the wall that these Fairmonts have seen better days. Fairmont used to be like the Ritz. Now they seem more like Marriotts. Will probably stay at the nearby Westin next time.
I miss the feel of my old Fairmont!
