If it was not for the staff or the quick 3 minute walk to the children’s hospital, you would not stay there. For a 4 star well known ‘mercure’, the car park situation was rubbish operating with a token system, so each time you have to goto reception to collect a coin to insert into a boom gate. At some stages if staff are busy you can be waiting up to 5 minutes just to retrieve your car. A programmed door card would have made more sense, the room was very tired and dated. With the ‘heater’ set to 22 degrees the system thought it would be a great idea to turn the air con on automatically with no manual override, putting a nice cold chill onto you while you sleep! Value for money right there! The bath and shower combo, water pressure and temp was great, but bath was tiny, and very slippery while standing in there having a shower. Not sure if cause for concern also, but I see a hardwired smoke alarm missing. Tea and coffee supplied with no dishwashing liquid to wash up with. Overall I would not call this place value for money, as I think from what I have experienced this weekend would be satisfactory for a backpackers hostel! And I would not stay here again! Also the dining isn’t much better either living up to the reputation of the room had a steak cooked medium rare, no choice of sauce and for what if came out as, would have rather chewed on my thong! If the rating would go lower that one star I would!
Stayed here two nights, room catered our needs close too Children Hospital; Royal Melbourne/Women Hospital, also close proximity to Queen Victoria Market and also a local Supermarket. A short tram or taxi ride to Melbourne CBD city. Hotel has lots of negative reviews however, you get what you pay for. If you are after a cheap hotel close to the city this place is for you. Parking cost $15 extra per night and the hotel does require a $50 deposit or credit card on arrival. happy travels 😊
I have stayed at this hotel many times and the staff are always very helpful. The position is on the tram line directly into the Melbourne CBD. It also has reasonable parking at the hotel. Rooms are comfy and serviced well. Can highly recommend this comfy hotel.
Not sure why all the negative reviews. My stay was uneventful. Yes it's a bit worn on the outside, but the room was clean and tidy, everything worked, the bed was comfortable and I received acceptable service from the staff. For the money I paid, I think this hotel is quite good value. If people want a five star experience they need to pay up and go elsewhere. I ordered room service twice and it also was priced appropriately and rapidly delivered. I would have no problem staying here again if I have business in this part of town again. Very close to Childrens Hospital if needing to visit there.
This is my go to hotel in Melbourne as most of my business is around North Melbourne. The hotel is a bit old, but clean and functional. Rooms are large with good light and the beds are good. Staff are always helpful, access is easy and parking good. Walk to good cafes and close to running tracks.
Stay here on the white night Melbourne festival .The property is clean ,room was above average in size and the amenity was comfortable . Parking was onsite and convient. Our room was on the corner of the property facing Flemington road and was a bit noisy which is properly the only negative ,not that I didn’t sleep after a big night out. Public transport is via tram on Flemington road just outside the free zone and a short ride get you into Melbourne cbd
Staff here were all very friendly and efficient. The room was nice and clean, the bed comfortable. Carpet looked pretty new. A bit on the small side but not too bad. Had room service and the food was delicious and large portion size. There is a nice small supermarket a short walk away. A convenient place to stay if you don't want to stay right in the city but still be close. The only major downside is that it is on a fairly busy road, and if you have a room like I did that faces on the street, there is a fair bit of traffic noise, the windows are not double glazed. A bit of soundproofing would really help guest amenity.
Come to stay here while in Melbourne on a 4 day trip. Clean rooms with, aircon and bar fridge. Has a iron with ironing board. There is a pool. Room service too plus restaurant. There is a life or stairs your chose
I was in town for an event at the nearby Royal Children's Hospital and this was one of two hotels within walking distance of the hospital. Truth be told we stayed here because the other hotel was fully booked. We are a family of two adults and two children and booked a standard room with two queen-sized beds. Plus points: Location, if you are here for the RCH. Staff were quite friendly and helpful. Room size was reasonable although a bit on the small side. Beds were quite comfortable. Minus points: Free wi-fi in the room was difficult to connect to. The biggest downside was cleanliness and maintenance. The carpet had either bald patches or stains in places and in some spots were visibly dirty, like it has not been properly vacuumed, the shower was leaky, and the air condition grill had layers of dust on it. For the price we paid, they could have done better.
Staff were very helpful. Hotel is next to tram stop and very easy to get to Melbourne CBD. Walking distance to supermarket and food outlets. Room was clean. Bathroom needs a bit of sparkle...it’s an old building. Value for money.
