This place is in need of a major overhaul, if not pulled down and start again. I Management would not speak to me about how disgusting it was they just instructed the check out clerk to give me a major discount. This tells you that they know how bad it is!
Nicely located hotel with parking (paid) and nicely set out. Not to far to Flemington or even shinboner stadium. Food was great and came promptly. Only down side was not having lift to the small car carpark which means you have to lug your bags up stairs to get to ground level so you can use lift.
I've stayed at many Mercures but this has to be the worst so far. I don't even know where to start. Reception isn't very warm, seems like the people that work there aren't very happy, probably the worst attitude I have come across in an accor hotel. Upon checking in as an Accor member I didn't receive internet or my free drink voucher, had to go back and get them, We were staying for 3 days and they gave me an internet voucher for 1 day when they also had 3 day vouchers available, so why make extra work for me? When I tried to get a drink with my voucher I was limited to 2 types of beer yet my father who had ordered his 15 minutes before had a much bigger range. What the hell? We stayed in the junior Suite, very spacious room but wow does it need some maintenence. Light Globes blown, toilet not flushing, TV remote not working properly, placement of TV not very good. Everything was reported and wasn't fixed. My family also booked 2 other rooms and there remotes were the same. We arrived at 9:30pm and wanted to order room service. no menu! So I had to back down again and they had to print one off, got back to the room and try to order room service and then we are told thats not the right menu! So we went elsewhere. The bathroom was disgusting, there was urine on the wall the same color as Dr Spocks, the toilet wasn't clean, there was hair, dirt everywhere in the corners. The bar fridge wasn't stacked properly, the curtains didn't close properly. We had the buffet breakfast the next day, the juices weren't replenished, half the food was cold, the sausages were tougher than a dogs chew toy. On checking out they tried to charge us for breakfast the day we arrived, I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure we arrived at 9:30pm and your breakfast was closed, they also tried to charge us for breakfast on the last day which we never had, nor wanted. Very disappointed and wish I stayed at Mercure Albert Park like we normally do, will NEVER stay here again.
Needed a place to stay one quick night after landing late in Melbourne, before an early start. Looked at the mixed reviews and chose this place anyway. It’s as seems. Friendly and genuine welcome, room and facilities clean and quiet. As a place to park, sleep and refresh before moving on, it was just fine. No need to drive further.
I was really looking forward to spending the grand final weekend in Melbourne. When I looked at the ACCOR site this hotel looked great, a four star delight! In looked modern and luxurious and that is why I booked it. First impression when I arrived in the taxi - I have arrived at a dodgy motel! So disappointing, it was just so dull. The room was outdated and the widows dirty. I should have researched the dining facilities better but the breakfast looked unappealing and not worth whatever they charged for it. The reception staff were great I must say, very efficient and helpful. I think the building and the decor has let them down. Four stars? Maybe in some dodgy 3rd world country.
Reading previous reviews, its all been said but managements replies are all very generic and don't go anywhere by the look, which is a pity compared to others in the accor brand. We are accor plus members and stay at the hotels often and while we didn't expect too much up that end of town as there arent too many attractions - hence perhaps not a massive market or upmarket demand, thought it would be at the accor standard. On arrival, there was a sign on the counter saying to wait 5 mins, at reception. An Indian staff member was behind the counter but she just looked at us and started to leave. I asked her if there was please someone who could check us in - she curtly said to just wait there and walked away?? Didn't know who she was but later saw her on another floor cleaning the rooms. Some upskilling in simple greetings and professionalism would have avoided this 1st impression, no matter what their role is. There didnt seem to be a front of house person in charge, as you clearly see at all other accor hotels and only 1 or 2 staff were around. The restaurant and bar are right there beside the front desk so we thought we might go have a drink or something to eat there, while we waited (5pm on a Saturday) but no staff and a sign saying it was all closed. Room was like someone else said - like an old uni hostel, but then weren't expecting Collins St level at that price, but it was tired. Bathrom had broken bits all over- the bed was 2 zipped singles, so had a hard ridge in the middle and no topper mattress that all the accor hotels usually have - but it was all clean to be fair. We walked to the No 57 tram to go to the showgrounds and another couple said they followed our group as there was again, no one on reception to give them directions. When we checked out the next day I mentioned to the girl that we had not been given any information about facilities, Wi-Fi etc and accor plus members entitlements of 2 free drinks in the bar (that was shut!) each stay. She said 'ooh didn't you get given the black envelope with those benefits in it' ? Ah - no. So we missed out on that benefit since it was 9 in the morning by then! However she didn't charge us the $15 car parking charge, I guess to counteract the things they didn't provide- although she didn't say this and from memory I think, it was the same girl who checked us in? Not sure if we would stay again - its very all over the place, no clear leadership in front of house, unfriendly cleaner and the hotel replies to these reviews are all the same, just saying sorry your were disappointed when people say the same things over and over. This is not a good representation of the Accor brand and obviously nothing is being done to improve these issues. Gives the feel there is no money being put into the upkeep of this hotel and its service. Pity :-( Accor HQ need to reviewing all their hotels reviews and casting a general eye over what customers are saying, especially if the specific hotel staff management are not improving on things on site.
Stayed one night in a very pleasant room, 2nd floor facing Flemington Road. While the room was well equipped, the noise from the road was continual and meant for little sleep. We had breakfast at the hotel, selection of continental and hot food. Hot food was warm, and the price was a little high. Plenty of parking, but is $15 a day on top of the room rate. Prices for the rooms fluctuate from day to day, a little hard to justify.
The mattress that is. Hard as a rock, lop-sided and lumpy. This place reminded me of my old University residential college down the road - old lift, wind-out windows and noisy, probably the same era building. The best thing about the room was the city view and I didn’t mind the black and white photo mural. No obvious power points in the bathroom - made drying hair a bit tricky. Good A/C for a balmy Melbourne night. Didn’t eat at hotel - great pub food about 200m down the road.
I was placed in the room where the channel tunnel for the hotel conditioning was right out of my window. It was so loud my bed was shaking, and I didn't get a wink of sleep. If you're sensitive to noise while sleeping ( not that you really need to be sensitive), this place is not for you.
We were in Melbourne for a weekend with some friends and booked here as it was a good price and close to the Melbourne showgrounds, which is where we were headed. The hotel was easy to get to and is an easy walk to cafes and the tram line. Tram 57 took us to the showgrounds and then back into the city for dinner. Perfect location for anyone who needed to be near the Royal Children's Hospital. Under cover parking is available - we had no trouble finding a spot but it didn't look like there were a lot of spaces so would pay to ask when making your reservation in case you have to book. Our friends were driving and made our reservation so I am not sure about the parking arrangements! The hotel also has a restaurant, but we didn't utilize on this visit. Staff at the front desk were friendly and very helpful as we had a few questions about where to go for lunch and how to get to the showgrounds. Our room was a good size, clean and ..... opening windows!!! Bathroom was also clean and shower was great. Was a bit tricky getting temperature right, but pressure was good. Lots of natural light, big mirror, but not a lot of bench space around the basin. No room to sit your toilet bag! Bed was comfy - probably more on the firm side - and was two pushed together but that was no problem. And the pillows were great! Probably first time I have ever had a hotel pillow that was just right for me! Was not the quietest hotel we have stayed at - at one point we could hear people in next room. But that wasn't for long. Overall really happy with our experience and would be happy to stay there again.
