We stayed at this motel because of its close proximity to the Royal Childrens Hospital. The rooms were large, quiet, very clean and ccmfortable. The staff were wonderful nothing was too much trouble from the reception to the restaurant /bar staff. Breakfast was very good also. Would highly recommend this motel and we will stay again.
We stayed here for one night and had a pleasant experience. Prior to booking, I searched and read reviews and few comments mentioned that it was reverberating noise of cars as it is situated on a busy road. When I made a booking, I requested to have a room away from the noise and was grateful the room given to us was well away from traffic thoroughfare. We had a peaceful night and slept well. With what I paid for, I didn't expect 5-stars rating. But the room spacious, beddings looks clean and fresh and the breakfast menu was ample and sufficient. I would stay here again and would recommend it to friends
Was disappointing. We stayed three nights. Room was clean enough and the place sufficiently comfortable. foxtel in the room as well. But you would hope that for a reputable hotel chain such as this, there would be free wifi, but you are instead prompted to buy 750 MB for $15+. You probably get better value for money with wifi just buying one of those $2 a day plan by Optus. Room was not made for one of the days. The room also has insufficient socket points to charge your phones etc (we only found one visible to us, which we had to disconnect the electric kettle to use). The mini bar price list was also not in the room, causing my partner to wrongly assume the mineral water was free. To their credit, they waived the bottle of water, but a missing price list and being missed by housekeeping suggest that somewhere something is very sloppy. Location is not great, but they could have made up for it with service. Not going to stay here again as the service did not wow us enough to make up for the lack of location.
Firstly, great staff, reception good, restaurant good , cleaning excellent, that said, this hotel is nearly worn out, even the signs on the wall saying the hotel is being renovated look like they've been up for years . Our room, 217 had white paint covering everything, walls, bathroom tiles the lot, looks awful, shower dripped constantly, we still enjoyed our stay, but hurry up with the reno, & stop charging for a cappaccino on top of breakfast charges
Nice room, comfortable bed and furnishings. Meals were available, we did not require this service on this occaision. Good location, close to tram stop and city. The main concern being the curtains - which were really dirty and disgusting.Hopefully due for an urgent update!!
One night stay in a junior suite worked well for a family with two teenage boys. Decor a bit tired but rooms and bathroom are spacious. The place is being renovated so appearance should improve. Very helpful reception staff. Easy tram or taxi ride to Melbourne central.
The hotel is convenient to tram to center of Melbourne which stops a block away. The traffic was often noisy at night making sleep disturbed. The food was average. Parking was convenient under the hotel at a cost of course. The bathroom was awkward and lacking any place for personal items
First time traveling interstate by myself so went with the Mercure group as they're a well know brand. There was no folder/book with information about local services ie public transport, local eateries & attractions, price list for the mini bar. There were notices around regarding renovations, so expected that the newly renovated rooms were those being used. In the bathroom it could be seen that the tiles were just painted over & in sections some of the paint had scratched off. The bathroom tap was definitely not right for the sink in that when you washed your hands water splashed all behind the sink, the tap needed to come out further so the water went into the centre of the sink. There was no bench space to store my toiletries. The silicone seal between the bench & wall was cracked & separated from either surface. The basket used to hold face washers & hotel provided toiletries was thick with dust in between the basket weave. The light switch appeared damaged, sunken in it's housing. The shower ran either too hot or freezing cold varied throughout showering. On turning in the heating it was set to 25degC, the highest it would go was 28degC & even then it was blowing out cold air. The bed was uncomfortable, raised & hard in the middle. The sheet that was on top of the mattress did not appear to fit properly or be big enough. There were spot stains on the carpet between the mini-fridge & bathroom. Bedside light had a red wire coming out from the side (& going back in) between where it was fixed to the bed head. Only 1 powerpoint to use located above the fridge where the kettle was, inconvenient for portable electrical items that need recharging. With not too much choice for convenient eateries I braves their cafe. The table was sticky. The salt & pepper shakers had that sticky gunk build-up they get when they haven't been cleaned. The meal, not great. Butter chicken, some of the chicken appeared discoloured & the papadums were pooling oil. I ordered room service later in the evening, Sticky Date Pudding. My all time favourite dessert. As I cut into it a piece of cooking paper was in the centre about the size of a 20c piece. And it wasn't overly nice. For what was apparently renovated, it just wasn't up to scratch. Also there was no notification at all when booking online or on their website that renovations were being conducted. There were no work-persons seen & no excessive noise. Being close to the hospitals, the occasional loud helicopter was heard.
The mercure North Melbourne was in a great location however it needs to be updated. The rooms were looking quite old and tired. One of the power points was hanging out of the wall and the shower head kept dropping so I had to hold it up to have a shower. The staff were very friendly.
I was worried about staying here after reading reviews but I am pleasantly surprised. The staff are so friendly and extremely helpful. The room is very clean and modern, and the bed is extremely comfortable. The bathroom is a little tired in places but nothing too bad. I had room service and the meal was absolutely delicious! Can't fault the place!
