If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Marrakesh then this riad ticks every box. Look no further. Brilliant 4 day break at Riad Zayane. Jaouad and his team were so helpful in every way. Good central position in the heart of Marrakesh although extremely quiet. Clean, traditional and a huge continental breakfast every day. Lovely roof top terrace an ideal place to unwind after a 'crazy ' day out at the souqs. Riad Zayane has a home from home feel about it. Very well done to all who make it such a great place to stay.
I went with friends for three nights and four days. We had not been to Marrakesh before and although I personally had travelled to Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey in the past, this was a totally different experience. The riad is located up a couple of quietish lanes where sellers display their fruit and veg, along with the local butchers and other trades. The taxi that we had from and to the airport was arranged via the riad and was excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff at the riad were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble, including putting up bunting and balloons for my birthday. The breakfasts were lovely and plentiful and changed every day. The rooms are very traditional but beautifully furnished, clean and well presented. The staff arranged drivers and guides for us, never pushing anything but always available to ask for advice and help. They booked restaurants, and even got us the best table in one even though it was a Saturday night. I am definitely going back and will be taking more friends with us. It's small, five bedrooms, so if you can fill it all you will have an amazing place and staff all to yourselves. Highly recommended.
Stepping through the door of this Riad is crossing into a world completely unlike that of the outside streets that are chaotic, noisy, and full of the day-to-day business of living in Marrakech. Inside is a serene, lovely little escape. The decor is lovely, the staff couldn't be more helpful, the breakfasts are delicious and plentiful, and the environment tranquil and calm. Aisha is a veritable Moroccan treasure and although we dealt primarily with her, the others were very kind and helpful as well. Peter R and others have given very complete descriptive information, so please read other reiews. Our only complaint was having to haggle on the streets with men and boys offering to "help" us with our bags or with directions and then angrily demanding a huge payment in exchange, but of course this was not any fault of the Riad--just be prepared. Avoid looking lost or in need of any help and this will be less of a problem.
My wife and I are just back from 5 nights at Riad Zayane booked as part of a hotel and flight deal with British Airways and this Riad proved to be the most wonderful place to stay. It is located just inside the old city on the edge of the markets and close to the souks, the main square, Place Jemaa El Fna and nearby sights. On arrival we were met by Jaouad who welcomed us warmly with mint tea. The central dining area is furnished in traditional Moroccan style and a beautiful space to relax over breakfast. Our bedroom - we chose the one on the ground floor - was lovely with a well appointed shower area. Breakfast was excellent. The bread was fabulous and fresh every day, bought in from the market outside. Other dishes were varied each day and included for example, a wonderful fresh fruit salad, orange custard and banana yoghurt. In every way we were made to feel at home. Aicha and Bahija not only provided wonderful service but they were good fun, enjoyable to chat to and demonstrated infinite patience as they dealt with our many questions. We had booked one excursion to the Atlas mountains ahead of arriving but this was not necessary. The information booklet offers numerous experiences which can be booked by Jaouad. We chose a 1/2 day walking tour of the souks and various sights on our first morning which was a great way to get our bearing. Our guide was excellent steering us through the maze of shops whilst giving us chance to view everything on display. We also booked to go to Essaouira which is 5 hours round trip by taxi but it is well worth the trip. If you enjoy food and cooking, then you should take the chance of a cooking lesson with Bahija. This was tremendous fun making Moroccan salads with all the spices, learning how to cook a chicken Tajine followed by pears in orange juice - there was a tremendous sense of achievement afterwards dining in style in the Raid knowing you had contributed to the cooking! I came away with some ideas for friends at home. (Note it helps to take good notes and a few photographs as the cooking lesson proceeds!) The Riad being on the edge of the old city is also within walking distance of the new city and we spent another day exploring, taking in the Majorelle gardens which are most unusual and a must visit. It you like churches, then visit the one and only Catholic church in the city. The gardens around La Koutoubia are also interesting and within easy walking distance of the Riad. The hotel also had good wifi. I shall definitely book here again when I next visit Marrakech. Oh, and one final point, if you chose to travel by taxi to and from the airport, make the booking via the Riad. It is easier than booking ahead via the airline.
Riad Zayane is an excellent place to stay. It is located in the heart of Marrakech's old city so the beautiful sites of this old imperial city are all within walking distance. Incredibly beautiful inside, the Riad offers a genuine, traditional and wonderful Moroccan experience. It has such an incredible vibe and feel, staying here made our trip. The staff are exceedingly friendly and helpful, you could not ask for more in my opinion. 5-stars all the way for this review.
This was a fantastic riad the themed rooms were great they had everything you needed along with lovely breakfasts. But mostly I have to say the staff were amazing especially Jaouad you couldn't meet a more helpful person and always with a great smile. Although the riad is a 20 minute walk to the main square it is an enjoyable walk and Jaouad supplies you with maps and explains all the best ways to get to the various places.
This was a wonderful place to stay. From the minute I walked through the door it felt like home with such a warm welcome. The rooms are decorated individually, each representing the diversity of the Berber culture. The breakfast was excellent and each day was different. The dinner was outstanding - such beautiful flavours for all courses. I decided to do a cooking class on my last night, learning lots of tips whilst enjoying mint tea and chatting, such a lovely experience. The hospitality shown by the staff was warm and friendly, they really made my stay enjoyable.
We stayed for three nights on arrival in Marrakech and took the 'serenity package' where we got picked up by a taxi at the airport and a very nice dinner was ready for us on arrival - very good idea after a long journey. The staff were attentive, breakfast was excellent and huge. Good coffee too. Level decor and nice quiet location just off a busy street in the medina. Good wine list. Perfect base for a few days in Marrakech.
My daughter and I stayed here for four nights my birthday present. I must say one of the best birthday presents ever. One of the loveliest places I have ever stayed. Nothing was too much trouble. The road was beautiful with just five rooms all individually decorated just amazing. We had dinner on the night we arrived which was lovely as it was late three courses with wine just excellent. They booked a guide for us, a mule ride into the Atlas Mountains to visit a Berber village plus our taxi transfers to and from the airport. There were other excursions to choose from all excellent value. We had a room each and they happily moved my daughter so we were next to each other. Outside the road was just madness but inside peace and tranquility. There was a lovely rooftop terrace if you just wanted to relax after a day in the souks. Breakfast was lovely with fruit yogurt bread pastries fresh orange juice jams pancakes and eggs. We did not want to leave. Outside seemed a bit scary at first but we never felt unsafe all the people were very helpful when we looked a bit lost, and contra to all we had read nobody wanted money for helping just pleased to help. If you want somewhere to stay in Marrakesh this is the place we will be back.
We were on a British airways holiday and this was one of the Riad's recommended. We couldn't have chosen better as the staff made this a memorable holiday. They couldn't do enough for us, assisting with phone calls, restaurant recommendations, directions etc. We ate dinner in the Riad twice and it was delicious, the breakfasts were very varied and fresh so a perfect start to the mornings. Our room was very comfortable and large enough to accommodate us for a week. Location good, and an interesting walk into the central areas. A huge thank you to the wonderful staff.
