the bar was closed in the evening - the restaurant was deserted and in the morning I sat in the breakfast room for 20mins before I got up and checked out - hotel was a bit of a surreal experience , it was deserted !!
This lovely hotel in the sweet village of Ogbourne St George was very friendly and good value for money. I was walking the Great Stones Way and it is quite well located at the bottom of the Ridgeway below Barbury Castle. If you are hiking south and want to go back to Barbury Castle, be aware that it is about 4 km uphill! Nicky and Mark were kind and friendly hosts and I was very happy with my room.
Old fashioned and very basic, room smells of damp, All very drab, bedding tired, all brown, owner welcoming only plus is cheap and near m4 would not recommend, can here other people in rooms only hope it is quiet
Well what can I say. My husband booked this as a surprise away with another couple for her birthday. On arrival we had to ring to get in as doors locked. We he finally answered we were told that we were early and as the hotel is close to Swindon he locks all doors as things would go missing. Being from Swindon we found this very offencive . After being shown to our room I did not really want to stay room very dated with dust on light fittings. I would not get in the shower as there was mould and scum on tiles and dirty grout Web sit said views but that must have been year's ago as houses are where the fields used to be. The windows are old Sach windows so rattle all night, if I could have slept in the rock hard lumpy bed with pillows that felt like they were from the pound shop it would have woken me up. I was very tempted to drive home at 02.30 as I had had enough. Breakfast was very nice well cooked and fresh. I would not class this as a hotel. Not even sure a bb ,if the owners don't want to be there they should sell it or close it 89 pounds of hard urned cash wasted. I would not paid 30 pounds but husband had paid. I have added few pictures take a close look at shower . My husband has a lot of making up to do . This was a supirior room apparently ,I would not want to see a standard.
The hotel is very clean and tidy. The owner Mark and his wife were very welcoming. We had a lovely evening meal which was extremely good value and all hand made. The breakfast was extremely good with all local produce.
We stayed here for 1 night room a bit dated but clean the bed we found extremely hard and not very comfortable we were disappointed to find that on returning to the hotel at around 10pm there was nobody about we would have liked to have had a couple of drinks as we were on holiday but the bar was shut, the cooked breakfast was good the host was friendly fien for a stop over.
Looking for a quite stop over hotel for one night near Hungerford and Swindon, I came across this nice little hotel at a very reasonable price. Set in a nice little village this hotel is worth a visit. the rooms are a good size and well within the standards of a three-star hotel. The food was was good we had an evening meal which was very nice, the inclusive breakfast was very good. The owner and staff make you feel very welcome and we would stop again if we traveled to the area again.
Reception and bar area looked as if the hotel was being run on a tight budget. A few tables and chairs and a TV the on the wall. All the mirrors needed a good clean. There was nothing inviting to make you want to stay there. A vase of flowers would have made the place look brighter. We were taken to our room very small but was clean apart from the large mirror on the wall splashes and smears all over it. There was no radio alarm clock in room and no shower cap in the bath room as stated, only small soaps and two shampoos. The bed was quite lumpy. Breakfast was ok, no good if you have a good appetite in the mornings. Their ratings on display from Trip Adviser and Hotel.com need to be reviewed......really!!!!
Easy to find location just off the A-road. Quaint hotel with Wiltshire hospitality and friendliness. Decent room and good breakfast. The rooms are a bit dated but still everything functional. Free parking in a quiet area. Perfect for countryside visit or visit to nearby historical towns.
This hotel is great for 1 night. Very close to Marlborough with free parking. The owners are very friendly and serve a tremendous breakfast with lovely sausages. The room was snug but there was no noise so we got a very good night's sleep. The disappointing thing was the shower which was only slightly better than a dribble.
