High over the Bay of Palma with a perfect view of the comings and goings of Ocean Liners and Yachts being piloted to locations in the massive Port- Marina was absorbing. Our three night stay was enhanced by unseasonably fine weather for early November. For this off season time of the year the Valparaiso Palace offers a simple but excellent formula. The Paraiso Restaurant is open for a stylish buffet breakfast with a superb selection of fresh fruit, odd yogurts, pastries and cooked Majorcan specialities. Before getting the length of the food there are two stops. The first proffers all of the ingredients of a perfect Bloody Mary including a liberal supply of Absolut Vodka. The second barrier to food at some decent bottles of Cava on ice. By the second day I had passed through these stops to enjoy the buffet in a fitter state. The Mar Blay restaurant offers a deceptively simple lunch and dinner dishes some of which are stunning. Our two best were the Mushroom Ravioli and the Monkfish Seafood Broth with Clams. To add a bit of class the counter has shoe box sized tins of Perlita Caviar. The smallest at 20gms costs £95 while the 100gm version comes in at £500. Beyond our Belfast budget but someone must be enjoying the stuff. Staff and management are friendly and knowledgeable at all points of contact. There are two swimming pools. The lower is quite private and most of the guests seem to have forgotten their swimwear. The upper pool is family friendly and a great sun trap. SPA is excellent. Two hour Bus Tour of Palma is a must do with half price for pensioners. Amazing history and stunning old and new constructions.
We booked an expensive room on Sunday the 15th of October. The hotel was most definitely not full. On the morning of our departure we wanted to have a swim before leaving and rung reception to see if we could check out an hour later - "of course, no problem, that will be €60". The hotel is very dated and in need of a major refurbishment. For the same price we stayed at Pure Salt, Port Adriano - now this really is a 5* hotel with amazing amenities. This hotel is about 10 minutes outside of Palma. The room was large but dated. The swimming pools are not heated but it was warm enough to swim at this time of the year. We had to get a taxi in and out of the city centre. There is no wow factor to this hotel. It was functional, however not a hotel I would stay in again. The management should stay at the Barriers in Cannes to understand what real customer service is about. It's a pity it could be an amazing hotel. We didn't go to the beach but our cabin crew who live in Palma said that the beaches in Palma are dirty and the water is not clean so not a pleasant swimming experience. Palma is nice for a few hours but not necessary to stay here as Port Adriano is only a 15 minute drive away and a much nicer location, hotel, service etc. Overall very disappointing and definitely not value for money.
Our 3rd time of visiting and nothing is to much trouble here, my husband is recovering from cancer and the spa is ideal for him, the salt chamber and the herb chamber are very good for his health. The rooms are comfortable , the food is good. Thank you staff
Had 10 days here with the good lady in October. Weather was wonderful. The Hotel is very well run , clean and comfortable. Great views from our 5th floor bedroom.We only ate a few light lunches during our stay and they were delicious. The breakfasts are fantastic, so much choice . The stand out feature of this hotel are the staff, everyone we met was friendly and professional. Keep up the good work. We will return to this Hotel for sure.
Being a resident on the island I would like to give Valparaiso Spa a 5*. An absolute hidden gem. Go and use the pools first, then the sauna's, have one of their fantastic treatments and have a delicious lunch after. What a treat!
I have just returned from nine nights in this hotel with my mum and dad. It was a perfect break from start to finish! We arrived at 11:30pm and despite the kitchen closing at 11:30 we were invited into the restaurant and handed the menu...there was no pressure on us to pick a simple dish that would have been quick to prepare and we weren't made to feel like an inconvenience! The food was fabulous; the breakfast was second to none with nothing missing...I LOVED the Bloody Mary station! Every single member of staff was friendly and welcoming! There was an issue with our room on arrival...it was a miscommunication between the hotel and travel company which was sorted out very quickly. The wifi connection was super working in all areas of the hotel perfectly! I could not recommend this hotel more highly and look forward to a return visit!
Stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in September. The staff are very welcoming and helpful too. We had a supreme double room which was spacious and well equipped with a lovely view over Palma Bay and the Cruise liner Terminal. Evening meals on the terrace are delightful often with quality music by local musicians. The breakfast buffet is also very high quality with opportunity for ouside seating if preferred. The location is in a quiet residential suberb at the top of a hill overlooking the port. The downside for people not so fit is a long walk down to the main road/shopping centre (Porto Pi). There is a local bus from near the hotel with good availability of taxis. Some parts of the pool areas need attention - arms of sunbeds have some residual sticky material, and the floor tiles need re cementing to restore a quality feel to the upper pool area. However it is a great place to stay - relaxing, comfortable with friendly helpful staff. May be nice to see the management interacting with guests from time to time.
I booked a two-night stay at the beginning of Sept for our 10 year wedding anniversary. When we arrived at the hotel at approx 1 pm I was told our room was not ready until 3 pm as per the instructions but they did have a MUCH NICER room ready which would cost us an extra 30 Euros per night if we wanted. I then asked if we could have a late checkout at approx 1 pm due to flight times and was told if we were a minute past 12 pm it would be 60 Euros! I understand that this is communicated in the policy but considering the hotel was only half full and we had already booked a deluxe room (paying £215 plus a night) I thought there would be some kind of understanding or customer service to my questions rather than welcome now pay us extra! After changing in the changing rooms and leaving our bags in lockers in the spa we then went to the swimming pool to wait for our room rather than pay extra. The pool area and spa were great, the room was indeed ready at 3 pm and a bottle of Cava was waiting for us for our anniversary which was a lovely surprise. In the morning we realised we had forgotten a travel adapter for our phone charger, when I popped down to ask the hotel staff do they have a charger or plug available I was told quite clearly NO and you need to pay for one and the shop doesn’t open until 10 am. I went back to the room I realised the hotel file actually states “we have common phone chargers at the front desk just ask” and even further down it states we have travel plugs/adapters at the front desk just ask, so I decided to take this down to the front desk and show the lady, when I was halfway through explaining it and asking is there nothing you can do just temporary before the shops open, she answered the phone and walked away!!! When I explained to another member of the front desk team he looked at it and agreed and then stated: “Yes they need to change that don’t they”. I have stayed in three/four-star hotels that are more accommodating and understanding, this was basic stuff and if I had the energy at the time I would have raised a complaint around the lady in question but didn’t want to go through the hassle on a two-day break. Overall the hotel facilities are good, nice and clean. The SPA and swimming pool were excellent but on arrival, the front desk and customer service we received was terrible and let this hotel down, which is a shame for what could have been a perfect stay!
Now our children are older we like to stay somewhere a bit more upmarket but we have to work hard to save for this so I was suprised when we checked in and they immediately took €180 off my debit card in case we pinched something!! Do they do this to every guest ? If this is the case that's quite alot of interest in their account for 10 days per room. I would not have booked it if that was the case we always pay as we go this is lot of money off our spending money (i've been home 2 days and it still hasn't been credited) . Valparaiso you should tell people before they book not everyone who stays with you are loaded. The wifi is very weak and the drinks are really expensive ! We ate out all the time as there was no atmosphere in the restaurant only a couple of people in there. It would've been nice to have a baguette or light lunch in the lovely pool bar but they didn't serve food. You are not permitted to take your own food and drinks by the pool making sure you pay their prices . I bought a bottle of water nice posh bottle but still water €5 . The breakfast is lovely for cakes, fruit , toast cereal etc however the sausages and bacon were dreadful. The coffee was in a jug to keep it warm the later you get down for breakfast the more bitter the coffee became. The plus points the hotel itself is beautiful , the sunbeds are the comfiest I've ever been on and the pool is the best. The location although the view is lovely however to get the view its up a massive hilll I couldn't walk one day my calves were stiff and I'm a gym goer. There is however a bus stop and a taxi rank outside more money to pay out. The closest shops are down the hill but it's not that great we walked 63 miles in a week and we used taxis and the bus sometimes!
This is a late review as I have only just noticed that I had been remiss and also having just booked to return to the Hotel in a few weeks time. The views from the Hotel across the Bay towards the Cathedral were superb and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The proof of the review is in wanting to return! Highly recommended.
