Communication is a disaster. I checked in 3 pax including myself and paid for all three rooms upfront, inclusive of a late departure charge. Low and behold, i find a message on my phone on returning after a late dinner and the lady informs me that my check out time is 12 noon the following day.. i tell her the situation and she apologises profusely assuring me that it will be taken care of. The following morning, i see a note slipped under my door informing me again of 12 noon departure and .... i am more concerned about my guests as they would be receiving the same intimations. I call over at the reception and again they bend over apologising. The topping on the cake is when i come back to the hotel at 5pm after a whole day of meetings to find that my key card has been deactivated!! This is utterly unprofessional!! Shangri-La should be ashamed to be associated with such poor quality!

This is a nice, clean, central hotel. The rooms are good, the food is good and the wifi is strong. Like all places on Malé, they certainly know how to charge for things however.. But the truth is, if you are on Malé, then you are not here for a classic "Maldivian Getaway". The Jen is a good sanctuary from the chaotic, diesel perfumed, stickiness of this crazy capital. Check-in, get your business done and then do what the number 1 recommended activity on Malé is - get off the island....

I really didn't know what to expect for my first visit to the Maldives... and in fact, I did not expect Male to be what it is... probably Maldives' resorts is not Male and Male does not represent them! Location of Hotel Jen is very central and only 3-5 minute walk to the harbour connecting to Male airport. The free ferry service to/from the airport is a welcome amenity. Rooms - nicely appointed, clean and standard that's expected of the Shangri-La group. F&B - the buffet breakfast is more than adequate and has good choices for most palettes. Roof top restaurant has a great view with decent selection on the ala-carte menu... the weekend buffet can be improved... not fantastic, I have to add. The lobby cafe is nice with a good selection of sandwiches and cakes. Great locations to meet people and for quick chats. Service - I would commend the staff of Hotel Jen Male - they try and they try hard to meet our group's numerous requests and changes. In particular, I commend Eddie at the Front Desk and Amigo the Duty Manager for their patience and understanding. Kumar at the front office or concierge was also very helpful with the ferry service! Overall, the staff at Hotel Jen from the security at the front door, front desk, up to the restaurants are good and helpful. Others - WiFi is included, iced water at the lobby... nice touches! While I think this is still not a "Shangri-La", my expectations of a Hotel Jen are marginally lower. It is reminiscent of a Traders... albeit with brighter colours and more casual feel. Our group had also gone to a few "hotels" within 5-10 minute walking distance of Hotel Jen... My advice is if you are a discerning and more exacting traveler, then Hotel Jen is the ONLY choice on Male!

I booked this hotel because it gave me a comfort feeling when I read the review. It is my first time to Maldives and I want to have a perfect vacation. This hotel is small considering this is the highest rated hotel. The price is high too compared to the other hotel. However, I am very happy about their service and I think it is worth paying more. We stepped out from the airport after going through the customer, we saw a sign with our name holding up by a Hotel Jen staff. He was very nice to take care off all our luggages and took us to their speedboat immediately. The boat is only taking us to their hotel. When we arrived, the hotel staffs took our luggages and after we check in the luggages delivered to our room. I enjoy their VIP services. I gave them some tips they were very happy and thankful. I requested a local city tour the next morning before I transit to the Anantara Dhigu Maldive Resort, the receptionist help me out booked the tour and speedboat for me to go to the resort after the tour. The Male city walking tour is 1 hour plus, we really enjoy it and we think it is very good to know more about Male before we transfer to the resort. The tour is included in my hotel cost. The hotel room is clean, is not big, but was comfortable, nice and good enough for transit. The hotel was located one block from the ferry pier. The ferry ride from the airport to the hotel is short may be 10 minute. Another plus was the buffet breakfast was very good which refresh us after a long flight to get there.

As if your onw house. Staff warm and concerned. The swimming pool is on the roof top and it is perfect to watch the sunrise from here. Also I suggestion dinner here. They cook from a different kuzine every night.

We arrived late into Male and stayed at the Hotel Jen before heading to Hurawalhi the next day. Pick up from airport was excellent , young man who collected us was great. Check in was seamless and room was very clean and comfortable. Coffee shop in lobby was accessible for late night snack. Return to airport next day again great.highly recommended.

Adequately spacious room and a well-designed bathroom. Conveniently located , in the vicinity of ATMs, restaurants, Jetty. The roof-top restaurant by the side of infinity pool serves good quality seafood. they also have a buffet and arranges high tea.

I stayed with Hotel Jen Male in mid March 2017 and it was the most unpleasant hotel experience I have ever had. I booked Hotel Jen male through Expedia and paid about USD190. When I checked in Hotel Jen Male, I was told that my Expedia booking was only for 1 guest (due to user-unfriendly design of Expedia website and I didn't even know how to change number of guests to two in Expedia). Although the room and booking was for a double room, Hotel Jen Male asked me for USD 145 for the second guest to stay in the same double room!!! More importantly, the reception was full of lies and threats. Here are some of the conversations I had with the guy SHAKIR NISHAN. 1. He said all the USD 145 is charged by the Maldives government and they cannot lie to government. I must pay, no choice. Funny enough, when I asked if it can be lowered, they lowered to USD 94, which was the final amount I had paid. Of course I asked for a receipt and when in the receipt, it showed only USD 6 goes to HK government. What the guy said about everything goes to the government was a LIE! 2. Why did I pay? The guy simply said my wife was not allowed to go into the room or if she went into the room, she needed to leave within 15 minutes since VISITING HOUR has passed. It was totally a lie and threat about he visiting hour thing but I had no choice, I was totally threatened. I simply cannot imagine a hotel treat guests like this to give them such unpleasant hotel experience on day 1 in Maldives. It seems to me they don't care but they just want to be lucrative. I cannot believe it is a hotel chain under Shangri-la at all. I have decided that I will not stay in any Hotel Jen or Shangrila hotels any more.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night on a stop over, The hotel is clean and welcoming. The staff were efficient on arrival The view from our room was stunning, we had an ocean view room. the room was clean, very modern. I rang for extra sugar, the guy came all the way to our room with just 3 sachets of sugar. Enough for 1 coffee each. Rooftop pool was nice. Amazing views Roof top bar. Food was nice, quite expensive for small potions Check out was a lil frustrating. Numerous times we were told to be in reception for 9 am, we finally got escorted to the ferry transfer at 9.30

We have had our booking confirmed against credit card almost 2months prior to arrival, when we have received email 2weeks prior to arrival from property: "your booking was cancelled due to overbook". Or otherwise said, thank you, we have probably got bigger order! Most shocking was their insulting reaction. On question how can they do this, plus even such short notice to arrival, they replied that they offer not to charge us cancelation fees... how nice of them! Extremely disappointed. Be aware while booking this property, you just suddenly might not be good enough for them! Mirko Rybka
