After a long while, an opportunity to be with the castle peacocks amidst busy business schedule. The food is as usual good and the ambience, superb. cleanliness has taken a beat particulary in the restaurant rest room area. Also the Active Studio - GYM has junior levels equipment of heritage and needs an urgent upgrate

Situated on top of a small cliff the hotel has it's own charm with sprawling lawns, swimming pool and a flock of beautiful peacocks. It is a tranquil place. You can feed the peacocks too. From the top the city lights looks gorgeous in the night. The breakfast was wonderful. The sandwiches were pricy. Then quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

This is very unique and a massive property spread across many many acres. Rooms are very good, amenties are excellent, great swimming pool, Great view of city. Very courteous staff. Spa is also very good. Drawback : It will take almost 1.5 km from main gate to reception/rooms. It is almost impossible to walk during night time . One need to have their own private car or else it will be very very difficult. Even uber cabs wont come because it is on the top of hill. if you want to opt for hotel cabs then it is overly priced. 2nd drawback : Spa is good but they don't follow the spa menu price. I wanted to have 30 mins of back and shoulder massage but the spa guy was reluctant to do the massage for the price mentioned on the menu. But having said that it is a wonderful property and must stay property in madurai.

Set at the top of a hill surrounded by trees with fantastic views out over the town. The food in the restaurant was fantastic and the staff very friendly and helpful. Both rooms we had were a bit tired and in need of a makeover but otherwise a great place to stay.

Quite a large hotel with colonial-times bungalow, still preserving the ambiance, spread out around lovely gardens. Great views of the city. Very helpful staff. Good size rooms many with great views. Good restaurant and overall a good hotel in a good quiet location. First choice if you got to arrange your family with comfort stay when attending marriage functions in Madurai.

We were sitting on the terrace and a rat ran up our table to take snacks from it. It had the air of a rodent which had been there before. There was a small garden beside the terrace. The worse thing was the reaction - or lack thereof - of the staff. They were slow to do anything or rescue our drinks. Much worse was the manager. He actually laughed, shrugged and said it was "nature". I've never seen anything like it. Don't be fooled by the Taj name. It's nothing like a normal Taj.

Spent one night at this hotel and I was impressed by the staff service and comfort of the room. Staff at check-in was welcoming and the room itself was very comfortable. The room had a spacious en-suite bathroom and a large balcony . Breakfast at the hotel provided a large variety of Indian and continental delicacies.

Stayed for 2 nights. The check in and check out was smooth. The hotel situated on the hill and far away from the noise of the city. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The staffs were friendly but very slow to respond. We were perplexed in the restaurant when we found that the papad of other table was served to us. It should not be done again. For the sight seen, the driver was not polite.

Of all the Taj properties we have stayed at, this has to be one of the most serene, beautiful ones ever. The property is perched on top of a hill (the entire hill is part of the estate) with enchanting views of Madurai on all sides including of the towers of the Meenakshi Temple. The most special, unique aspect is the dozens of peacocks that live in the woods surrounding the hotel, and freely roam the grounds much to the delight of the guests. We stayed a couple of nights in the superior room (facing the gardens and the pool, with peacocks strutting about right outside our window) and one night in the executive room with an outsize balcony with a gorgeous view. Both rooms were lovely and comfortable. The pool is a delight set amid gardens and trees with a beautiful view bird’s eye view of the city to one side. All the food was excellent, and the genuinely warm, friendly hospitality and service were 100% Taj - this is one aspect in which Taj has never ever let us down. We also got a couple of very good massages and treatments at the Nalam Spa. Overall, we loved the whole experience, and given it’s a 60 min inexpensive flight from Bangalore to Madurai, we’ve decided the Gateway Pasumalai is going to be a regular getaway for us. The fabulous local food in Madurai town is a compelling added attraction. Definitely going back (and i’m not just saying it).

It is a beutiful property. It is a good resort and good choice for stay with family. It is situated on hills and approximately one km from main road. You can get a good view from this hotel. Food quality is good. Staff is also very good. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. There is lots of peacock roaming in the property. This hotel may not be suitable for elder people because of hills and distance between rooms and other facilities. Overall excellant experiance
