The Enotel Quinta do Sol is a charming hotel. It is very well situated with just a short walk down to the town, park and port. There are buses too as Madeira is very hilly. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and delightfully furnished. The staff are exceptional from the top to the bottom, however a special word must go to Maria who runs the dining room with style, courtesy and great efficiency. The breakfasts were excellent, with every thing needed to please everyone. The dinners were somewhat more hit and miss, however there was always more than enough food and plenty of choice. Our bedroom was roomy and comfortable, a TV showing many channels. A good bathroom and as I have said all spotless. The hotel is for adults only, and catered very well for the more 'mature'. The pool , which we had thought was quite large actually has a third of it up to one's ankles. That too was sparklingly clean. The staff were always willing to fetch more sunbeds if needed, however there was a slight problem with the umbrellas as so many had been damaged in the high winds and they were waiting for replacements (which I am sure will arrive very soon on a slow boat from China). Just one quirk! We had a premier room - for this we had more space, very quiet (though unfortunately we had a rock festival next door for 3 nights), bathrobes and a kettle - just a kettle, no tea, coffee or milk!! We were told we could buy milk etc either from the hotel or supermarket. A little mean as we had paid the extra for the room.
Due to husband being ill spent a lot of time in hotel and had to upgrade to half board. The food was fantastic. Facilities fantastic. The only reason it didn't get 5 star was departure. As we were late departure I would have expected a place to shower (preferably bedroom). Advised to use Spa not ideal as had to travel with wet swimwear home.
We went for a week with another couple. The hotel was well situated with walking distance between the port and the lido area very reasonable. The hotel was lovely, the staff probably the most friendly I have ever seen, the pool was clean and blissful. Yes, I would thoroughly recommend.
Arrived on the 2nd June to be met by a friendly smile at reception, very helpful and sorted us out with room and safety deposit box (10 euros for the week with 40 euro deposit which we didn't have to pay.) We had room 125 which the only problem was the balcony! Everything else with the room was good, towels for the sun loungers were in the wardrobe, towels changed most days even though we didn't leave them on the floor for the cleaners. Ask for two cards if you want to keep your fridge on for your water or anything else you wanna keep cold. The room was a garden/sea view and it was really nice, you could hear the entertainment if you had gone up early but wasn't on too late, the doors were very noisy you had to pull them shut but not the customers fault. Dinner was served with different time sittings, the first night was like a cattle market with the French, Germans and Sweeds!!! Very ignorant and as if food was going out of fashion!!! Food was okay not really a great deal of choice but you wouldn't go hungry, you were allocated a table on arriving so no problem with that. The pool area was nice very quiet clean with lovely views of the mountains. Jacuzzi was good too, not too sure about the sauna and steam rooms as i don't think they were in working order and there spa treatments weren't available either. The staff were great, Carlos, Andre, Diago and Susana to name a few, couldn't do enough to help. The hotel is on a hill so people with walking difficulties could find it hard work but the island is very very hilly. It was a five minute walk down to the main road and there are shops and bars down both sides.
The staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were fantastic (although the desserts were not my favourite). The pools are good, including one with warm water and hydromassage, there is plenty of space for sun bathing. The amenities are well maintained and the hotel is very clean. If you would like to be by the sea this is not for you, but there are some good restaurants and bars within 5min walk. There is a stop for local buses just in front as well, and the yellowbustour line passes nearby.
It's a 4 star hotel with services of 3. Installations are great, although rooms should be modernized. Breakfast was good but there were no fresh fruits juices or Madeira typical products. The worst was when the room was cleaned they didn't leave spare towels, the hotel doesn't have room service and the food in the bar is only served till 5 and wheb I asked for a late check out and while I was in the room dressing up a couple opened the door. :(
Well located about 1 km from the centre of Funchal with nearby access to local bus services (just under 2 euros per trip regardless of duration). Well presented hotel with good rooms. The garden view over the park next door was lovely and I guess quieter than those looking towards the sea and main road. Buffet meals were good with a fair selection at both breakfast and dinner. Saga travellers get a very good deal with a drink included for dinner and a kettle provided in the room. There are two little mini market shops within a few minutes walk for essentials. There is wifi in the rooms and the use of a fridge for free. A room safe is charged separately. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. We had a lovely time here and wouldn't hesitate to reccommend this hotel to others. PS the hills are steep and Funchal is not suitable for those with limited mobility, or wheelchair and mobility scooter users due to the steepness of both the terrain and drop downs on the kerbs.
Friendly people, excellent and clean room (nr 50), good food and a great singer (Ana Silva). Great location near the centre of Funchal with lots to see. A must is the church near the Town Hall. Public transport within 50 metres, although the centre is easily to reach by foot.
We stayed for one week end of April. Hotel was lovely. Room spacious and staff friendly. Food good. Good position for exploring Funchal. Lido to the right and marina and old town to the left. Worth getting a pass on one of the sightseeing buses. Yellow bus we did, good value for 5 day pass. Madeira beautiful island.
Hotel is in a prime location near to harbour shops. Restaurants and local taxi and bus services. Staff are very pleasant receptionist could not do enough for us as we arrived late in the evening and there was food laid on in the restaurant for all late arrivals . Modern looking hotel and great pool inside and out ,unfortunately we had no balcony it was a Juliette no room for chairs great view of sea and surrounding areas, food was plentiful and varied good quality Our room was tidy but the bathroom was a bit tired needed to ask for the shower attachment to be adjusted as was not working properly. Cleaning staff was hit and miss night entertainment was good fun after a few drinks from the bar served by great bar staff especially Carlos he sings beautifully. I would return to the hotel but make sure I had a balcony as the views from the hotel are great.
