We are here for 2 weeks, room is spacious, clean but no view. It was disappointing to find no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, these are standard in the UK. The staff at the bar are brilliant very friendly, the drinks are good value for money. The breakfast buffet is very good with everything you would expect. We arrived on Monday evening and as we did not know our way around decided to eat in on the Tuesday, this was the Italian themed evening, we were very disappointed with the food it was tasteless, so have not eaten in the hotel since. At breakfast one morning we were given forms to fill in as a survey. We raised our points of concern but we have not had any response from the management. The hotel is in a good location for town or Lido area, we have taken 2 tours with 1 more to do today. These have been good value, can now say we have seen the whole of Madeira which is beautiful.
stayed Easter 2017 what a fantastic hotel. I cant believe that m4tts90 was at this hotel my experience was completely different. I was in the new block on the side of the hotel some veiw of the sea between other buildings and 3 large cranes BUT little noise considering the hotel was very busy. My room was large airy and spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds.bathroom good size quality towels changed each day, pool towels provided.fridge in room can be stocked as mini bar if needed. kettle from reception if available. advise taking your own if this important to you. I found the food to be of an excellent quality and the menu extensive for both dinner and breakfast good choice of fish ,meat, vegi option and cooked to order steak, chicken.wraps, omelettes etc.snacks from bar lunch time. all staff are amazing
Where to begin? This should not be a 4* rated hotel. 1) Parking ~ Very small car park. There isn't enough room for all of the rental cars and employee cars, which results in people parking quite literally in the middle of the car park & blocking exits and other people in. Staff tell you to park outside reception if it gets this bad, which means that there is often a line of cars lining the rather narrow entry way. Be careful not to scratch the car going in as it's a *very* steep incline. 2) Rooms ~ Clean-ish, definitely a little dated. We had 3 rooms in this hotel due to various issues with each one so I like to think I know what the rooms are like. Our first room smelt like sewage and was on the main road outside the hotel. Make sure you get a room that isn't on the road as otherwise you won't be sleeping very much due to the single-glazed windows. In fact, you won't be sleeping much at all. Shower cubicle in one of the rooms had hard water marks all over the glass and was generally not very well cleaned. Most rooms are built for large groups (i.e. they have a door in the middle that separates rooms), which means that you will frequently hear other people talking/shouting next door and generally being noisy at the crack of dawn and late at night. I was tempted at more than one point to open the door and walk into the room next door and tell them to shut up. The fact that the rooms are all set up like this tells you how old the place is and who they are targeting (large groups). Do not come here in a couple. Double beds also do not exist here. We had 3 rooms and didn't see a single one. Instead, they push 2 single beds together to make a 'double' and lay covers over the top which still leaves a huge gap down the middle of the bed - not ideal if you're in a couple. 3) Food ~ The food isn't great, but it's not terrible either. In fact, it's bang average. What I do have an issue with, however, is having to pay 36 euros for 2 people at dinner to eat such tripe. We were tired so ate at the hotel the first night but eventually ventured out into Funchal and couldn't believe how much better the food (and pricing was). Do NOT pay to eat here unless you like being ripped off for cheap wine and depressing, limp food. There are plenty of great bistros and restaurants nearby that charge much, much less. Complete tourist trap. 4) Facilities ~ Not great. There is one outdoor pool and one 'indoor' Jacuzzi type of of pool. The outdoor one is permanently freezing and only 1.3 m deep at the deep end, so don't be expecting to do lengths in there. 'Entertainment' is a joke. We deliberately avoided it as it looked terrible and simply went out into Funchal and done our own thing during the days & evenings. Saturday night 'entertainment' consists of 2 local women (who looked visibly bored) dragged into the lobby to strangle cats / sing Abba at deafening levels. They both sound the same to me. As we walked back to our room we could see that there was, incredibly, a full house of 5 or 6 people actually sat watching them enjoying the show. 5) Location ~ Definitely not amongst the hustle and bustle. The hotel itself is set in a quieter part of town away from the strip where all of the people/atmosphere is. If you value this type of thing then you may want to consider elsewhere. Not much of an issue if you don't mind a 15-20 minute walk into the thick of it.
We had a wonderful week in the sun during the Easter holidays in April 2017. We booked through Expedia and were delighted when we arrived to find that we had a lovely sea view room with a balcony on the fourth floor. The breakfast buffet was extensive with choices of English and continental breakfast, cheese, meat, croissants, cake, fruit, yoghurt, cereals etc. The pool was a quiet area with different seating and plenty of seats for everyone using the area. The hotel was situated at the start of the hotel area and we found it easily with the help of the Aerobus that costs 16 Euros, for a return trip for two people, with the bus stop being almost outside the hotel. We would love to return to this hotel and would highly recommend.
We stayed here in April 2017. Jet 2 holiday. I was influenced in coming here by the reviews. Firstly, location. Well positioned, easy bus access to main Funchal and also no problems to walk. The room was nice, very clean we didn't have a balcony but we had a little love nee area, very useful. Food a great choice at each meal and more importantly always very hot. Staff. Every member of staff at the hotel was a credit to the place. They all had fantastic attitudes and nothing was to much trouble. Carlos in the bar was a star and the resteraunt staff very attentive and courteous. Well done to all of them Prices in the hotel bar were reasonable and each night there was entertainment on. If you took it in the spirit it was meant it was fine. All n all this is a really good hotel.
Another successful stay at this hotel. We stayed once in 2016, and upon our return staff even remembered us and found the time to chat. This hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained from the bedrooms, toilets and pool facilities, there is really no complaints on the standards of hygiene for this hotel. The staff work tirelessly hard to please their guests and also find the time and trouble to go the extra mile to keep guests happy! They are very kind and happy in their work, always sharing a joke with the guests, which makes the whole holiday experience worthwhile. The restaurant staff also work extremely hard and provide delicious evening dinners and breakfasts. For breakfast you can have a cooked breakfast as well as the continental version, plenty of healthy options on offer to suit all tastes. Evening meals were also excellent, with high quality food on offer and well cooked. Fish was on the menu quite often which can be difficult if you are not keen on fish, although I managed to find a suitable alternative. Overall, your needs were well catered for and the quality of the food was high. The bedrooms were well maintained, and fresh clean towels/sheets everyday. The cleaning lady was very friendly and also keen to please you. The only issue I experienced was trouble sleeping at night, due to large groups of guests slamming doors at different times during the night. This is not the hotels fault, guests should be more respectful of others staying at the hotel. Overall, another successful stay at this hotel and will stay again next year! Special thanks to staff members who went out of their way to please - Diogo Silveria, Andre, Carlos, Jhonny, Tina at reception (second lady at reception), Hugo and Jose at the restaurant. Big thank you!
We stayed for four nights at the hotel and couldn't fault the place. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, I would like to point one out in particular, but really they were all so nice it wouldn't be fair. We ate in the restaurant a couple of nights and the food was excellent. There is entertainment in the evenings, a local singer or group which makes for a nice atmosphere. Rooms are very clean and comfortable and cleaned every day. Only real drawback is the steep hill down to sea level, but in Madeira that is usually the case, the walk is not that bad that it would put me off, but if you would struggle you might want to find a hotel at sea level.
The rooms are clean, the breakfast buffet is excellent, and the seaview rooms are superb. The location is a bit strange and the front door (if you can call it that) is actually a little hard to find. It's quite a hike to downtown but it's nice to be between Lido and downtown. On an unfortunate note, our toilet broke and they first told me to fix it myself (what??) and when I told them I already tried (I'm fairly handy) they said it couldn't be fixed until the next day. I asked for another room, but they said the hotel was fully booked. This turned out to be a total lie because after dealing with a rude night staff member, he finally caved and gave me a new room for the night. That should have been the response from the start! That being said, the rest of the staff (especially day staff) are SUPER nice and friendly.
This is a great getaway if you are looking for a quiet relaxing adult only hotel. Great views with only a five minute walk away from some shops and restaurants or twenty minutes into the centre of Funchal. The only negative from our trip was the bath in our room seemed to be ingrained with dirt
Stayed here for a week enjoying the great weather and hotel facilities. The outdoor pool was not warm enough for me to swim in, but the infinity spa pool was fantastic. Heated to 31 degrees and with strong jets of water it certainly helped my sciatica. If only I could have taken one home with me. The rooms are a generous size, but the design of the building means there are very few rooms with balconies. This was something we missed as we enjoy sitting on a balcony reading the paper. The food is good with lots of choice and the staff are attentive. The wifi is a bit hit and miss in the bedrooms but fine in reception. All in all a good choice of hotel with bus stops quite near the hotel and a manageable walk into main Funchal and a bit of a hike to the Forum shopping centre in the opposite direction. Madeira is beautiful, Cristiano Renaldo's bust at the newly named airport apart. It is also very hilly almost everywhere you go so if you get breathless or have poor mobility Madeira may not be the place for you. This hotel is less than 100 yards up a steep hill.
