The rooms are clean and comfortable. The service (front desk, restaurant) is quite good. There's a nice selection for breakfast, which includes fresh juice. The location is excellent. And the wifi works very well.
I stayed here for two nights and was shocked to be given a room without a window to the outside. (The two windows in the room look out onto an inside lobby area and are sealed shut.) This wouldn't be allowed in the US. In the event of a fire, the only way of the room was via the single door. The AC was off for the season so the only way to get fresh air was to turn on the heat. I asked if all the rooms are like this and was told the hotel has two such rooms. So be careful when booking that you don't get one of them. I was given a reduction on the price when I complained but by then I had already slept in an overheated stuffy room. Also, this hotel is a LONG walk from the Old Lyon metro station. 20 minutes at least.
This is a wonderful hotel. The location is perfect- right on the river in the old town. The rooms are excellent, but the most wonderful thing about this hotel is the staff. We had a very late plane but were helped out with late showers and assistance. I left sunglasses in the room and they made exceptional effort to pack these and send on. I could not recommend a place more.
It is an understated little boutique hotel in the perfect location to explore the historic part of town. The staff at the desk were extremely helpful and friendly. I loved the toiletries in the bathroom. I also liked that the toilet was in a separate room from the tub & sink.
This is a small hotel in a great location. Right next to the old town and just a bridge away from the center of Lyon for shopping and restaurants. The rooms with a view of the river are very spacious, especially for France. The decor is older, but clean and the bathrooms have been update very recently and have great lighting. Do check on what kind of bathroom it is though. Some have showers only, some showers and bathtubs and some just bathtubs which can be small for "larger" people. The air conditioning also was good. The breakfast room was very light and inviting and the staff there and at the front desk were very helpful and friendly and did speak English. That was great as we tried to use our few words in French, which is only polite when in another country, but we had no trouble communicating. The breakfast was fine, but if you are just looking for a pastry and coffee, there are little cafes close by. The breakfast had boiled eggs, cereals, breads and pastries, fruit, yougurt, coffee and tea for about 11 Euros. We would definitely stay here again with that wonderful view of the river and larger windows that opened.
Stayed for 2 nights after a river cruise. Lovely spacious room overlooking the quay. Windows double double glazed so very quiet. Nice big, comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and efficient and also arranged for us to have an extra early breakfast as we had an early flight. The breakfast was very good and the coffee was superb. The old town and many of the sights are an easy walk from the hotel
This is a great centrally located hotel. I had a room with a view across the river. Very comfortable room, only complaint would be that there were only plastic cups and no spoons for the tea and coffee, just stirring sticks. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was 5 mins walk from the Old City which was full of charm. A continental breakfast could be purchased for 13 Euros per person. I would stay here again and recommend it for families, couples or singles.
We recently stayed at the hotel, wanting something central to Lyon's historic old town. Hotel Phenix was perfect. Super central location, the old town very close by and the more modern shopping malls a short stroll away. Staff were extremely polite and welcoming and the hotel also has parking round the corner (reserve in advance). Our room was spotlessly clean (we had a triple) and while lots of people ate breakfast in the hotel, we preferred to venture out to one of the many local cafes. Some great views across the river. One to recommend if you just need a clean and efficient base in the centre of town.
This little jewel of a hotel is ideally situated in the old town on the Quai de Bondy, right on the left bank of the Saone. It's right around the corner from the winding road that leads up to the beautiful Basilica Notre Dame de Fourviére, probably Lyon's most famous landmark. The hotel has been lovingly restored and modernized, with many features from the original building remaining, such as exposed half timbers and stonework. This in combination with nicely appointed bathroom fixtures and modern furnishings in a tasteful style makes for a chic and unique boutique hotel ambiance. The hotel staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to make your stay pleasant. The fact that the rooms are air conditioned was a major advantage given the 35 C temperatures that were a daily occurrence during our stay! The breakfast buffet had truly something for every taste and was always well-stocked, including fresh squeezed orange juice and some of the best pain au chocolat I have ever tasted (and in France, that's saying something). Highly recommended.
The twin share room here was one of the largest on our trip in southern France - not massive, but at least there was room to get around our suitcases. The location is excellent, on the Soane R in the old city and an easy walk to most of the sights. Reception staff were helpful, although a couple did not know much about local transport options.
