We recently stayed at the hotel, wanting something central to Lyon's historic old town. Hotel Phenix was perfect. Super central location, the old town very close by and the more modern shopping malls a short stroll away. Staff were extremely polite and welcoming and the hotel also has parking round the corner (reserve in advance). Our room was spotlessly clean (we had a triple) and while lots of people ate breakfast in the hotel, we preferred to venture out to one of the many local cafes. Some great views across the river. One to recommend if you just need a clean and efficient base in the centre of town.
This little jewel of a hotel is ideally situated in the old town on the Quai de Bondy, right on the left bank of the Saone. It's right around the corner from the winding road that leads up to the beautiful Basilica Notre Dame de Fourviére, probably Lyon's most famous landmark. The hotel has been lovingly restored and modernized, with many features from the original building remaining, such as exposed half timbers and stonework. This in combination with nicely appointed bathroom fixtures and modern furnishings in a tasteful style makes for a chic and unique boutique hotel ambiance. The hotel staff are uniformly friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile to make your stay pleasant. The fact that the rooms are air conditioned was a major advantage given the 35 C temperatures that were a daily occurrence during our stay! The breakfast buffet had truly something for every taste and was always well-stocked, including fresh squeezed orange juice and some of the best pain au chocolat I have ever tasted (and in France, that's saying something). Highly recommended.
The twin share room here was one of the largest on our trip in southern France - not massive, but at least there was room to get around our suitcases. The location is excellent, on the Soane R in the old city and an easy walk to most of the sights. Reception staff were helpful, although a couple did not know much about local transport options.
We stayed for 3 nights at the Phoenix and couldn't have had a better place to stay. Right in the most beautiful historic part of Unesco heritage site with lovely views of the Saone. I have been recommending it to all my friends.
This hotel is located in the UNESCO world heritage part of old Lyon. It is perfectly situated on the bank of the Saone to explore old and new Lyon. Our room was right at the top of this quirky looking building over looking the river. Although by a main thoroughfare, once windows were shut it was silent. The room was large, the bed huge, we benefitted from separate loo and bathroom ( with gorgeous whirlpool bath). The staff were friendly and helpful and speak English if needed. We had a lovely time. Thank you very much.
Perfect hotel, perfect location, perfect staff, perfect parking, perfect breakfast, perfect pricing and perfect stay. The road to the hotel is a bit complicated, as this is the traffic situation in Lyon, especially its old quarter Loved it and will return to when back to Lyon
Upfront advice - ask to see your room before settling in - we didn't and should have. We had booked an "executive double" room so were very disappointed by a) the size of the room and the bed (both shrimpy), b) the outlook - the wall of a neighbouring building (felt like being in a windowless cabin on a cruise ship) and c) the lack of natural light since the shade needed to be pulled due to overlooking suites in the building across. This was our last stop prior to flying home after five weeks of travel and eight previous hotels so should have asked to switch rooms to one on the front of the hotel overlooking the river, but just couldn't be bothered (mistake). Having said all that, the buffet breakfast was good, the room was quiet and the location of the hotel - right on the River Saone and on the periphery of the old town - was ideal. The water taxi stop was right across the street , with lots of restaurants and bars nearby and within walking distance to the main squares and pedestrian streets. Overall enjoyed Lyon immensely despite disappointing room (at least we were only really in it to sleep)!!
During a trip through France, my wife and I spent an evening here. The hotel was very nice and well maintained. The rooms have a modern design to them, in contrast to the older architecture of the area in Lyon the hotel is located at. Our room was on the smaller size, but we did have the base level room, there are certainly larger rooms available. It's easy walking distance to many parts of Lyon. We didn't use the restaurant on this short stay. Parking is available, for cost, and is essentially a four car garage and tight to get to, so don't have a large car. The modern updated rooms include plenty of USB ports for device charging, which is great. The bathroom was nice, but standing in the shower, my head was less then half an inch from the ceiling (I'm 5'9).
This hotel is quite nice. It was clean, spacious, and recently renovated inside- all elements at a premium in France. the location was great near the river and the Old city as well as City hall and Opera, although all of Lyon is pretty walkable even though this is about as far north as I would stay. Note that Gare st. Paul is not really used and the actual train station is in New Lyon. However, this was an excellent hotel for the value.
I've stayed here three times and it is a great place in a great location. This past stay my husband and two grown kids were with us and they all loved it. You can walk everywhere and we even took a day trip by car to Geneva. Quirky, quaint hotel, good breakfast and some rooms even have two beds - hard to find sometimes. Only downside is that the wifi sucks.
