Nice Hotel But Questionable Service

We had a great stay and the condition of the hotel was very good. I only rate the Service as Average, however, because the person at the desk when we check out said she could not give me a paper copy of my receipt because I had made the reservation thru Expedia and she didn't have access to it. I stayed at 7 Holiday Inn Express hotels on this trip and this is the ONLY one that would not provide me with a copy of my receipt. If what I was told is true, and I have my doubts, then the procedures need to be changed so that the hotel can provide guests with copies of their information if they request it.

Great overall. The only problem was the noise from the highway and the dirty tub. They have an amazing breakfast and breakfast area is clean and well organized. There is good coffee and tea in the lobby available at all times. The bed and pillows are comfortable.

The room was located on the first floor, which is under the hill of the building. The room smelled very musty and almost moldy. It was very dark in the hallway and also musty smelling. The bathtub and the bathroom itself needed to be updated and felt very dark with minimal lighting. The bathtub was very slick from many years of use. Definitely had to hold on to the safety bar to get out of the tub after showering. The whole room itself was outdated and very dark inside. Going to the second floor for breakfast was OK. The music in the check-in area and breakfast area was too loud along with everyone chatting in the breakfast area. Made for a lot of noise. The breakfast was satisfactory. I read the reviews from others who had stayed at this facility and I expected more from my stay and from the condition of the hotel. This hotel was not one I would ever give an eight rating to. I would’ve given it a five. Maybe the rooms on the second through the fifth or sixth floor are nicer. But the room we were given was not clean enough nor what I expected from the reviews on the website.

In general not a bad stay, but the staff was particularly resistant to helping me with an early check out without penalty. At check in on Friday there was an error with the checkout date which was incorrect. We were to checkout on Sunday, but were told it was Monday. Needless to say all I was looking for was not to be charged for an extra night that was never in play, The final decision which I deemed unfair, & poor customer service was to charge me a $40 early checkout fee. I think we can agree that they still had the room available for someone else where they made money, on top of the fee they collected from me. I do not intend for this location to be a future consideration for a stay.
