I was there on business for just three nights and wished it was longer. Huge, delightful suite - well furnished and with a large balcony. Better yet was the staff. From the front desk to the restaurant the staff were uniformly knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. This will be my clear first choice when I return to Lugano.
On arrival, there was no one to greet us, no one to park our car or help us with out suit cases. We were then left standing in the lobby not knowing where to go and servers just walked past us without informing where reception was. Check in was very brief and none of the room service were explained to us neither was the information about breakfast- where/times. That evening we were disgusted by the server at the bar who used the words “porco dio” when we asked the split the bill as there was a large group of us. The breakfast although included is VERY basic. The hotel is stunning with exceptional views and that would be the only reason I would go back as I’m appalled by the hostile service considering Relais Chateaux is a luxury brand with a good reputation.
Excellent service and hotel! We were staying with our friends one week. EHighly recommend. Service, staff, breakfast, restaurant, pool everything was wonderful! We felt we are in paradise. Best location and view.
We wanted to go to the Italian Lakes for our summer holiday. Our travel advisor offered us Lugano, in Switzerland. The Lake is 2/3 in Switzerland and 1/3 in Italy, so you get the whole Italian Lake experience with the added benefit of being in Switzerland. The hotel, Villa Leopoldo was amazing. The staff were friendly and couldn’t do enough. The suite was huge, comfortable, serviced at least twice a day and with an incredible view of the lake. We ate in the bistro, wonderful food and we swam in the pool. This was true 5 star luxury. The highlight was breakfast, every morning on the outside terrace area, with views across the lake and a delicious selection of pretty much anything you could want. We would highly recommend this location and massively rate this hotel. One watch out....it is expensive....the hotel is very expensive (but you get what you pay for) and Lugano itself is probably 30% more than a Mediterranean beach type holiday.
great service, great rooms, great pool... was our second stay here. can’t wait to return. by far, best hotel in town. The front desk gave us a lot of useful information. Shuttle driver is very polite. They pick you up and drop you off at train station.
Super setup, great food, gorgeous views, will come back, hasn't change a lot since 1980's, the mood is good, the vibes are enchanting and you lose all your inhibitions, girlfriend also stunned and getting into a free mind
My husband and I just spent a weekend at Villa Principe Leopoldo to celebrate our anniversary. 10 years ago we got married at this hotel and everything was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed our stay very much! The room was beautiful with an awesome view of the lake. Service was absolutely perfect at reception, bar and restaurant. Everyone was extremely nice and accomodating. The food was simply amazing. Every course was delicious and the portions were quite big (our lobster salad had a very decent amount of lobster). The breakfast buffet was a bit small with very few options and no freshly prepared food like omelettes or scrambled eggs. The hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway. We will definitely come back again.
Great legendary hotel with distinguished location, as well as superb fine dinning. Views from room are breathtaking. Hotel location is also very convenient for all attractions nearby including the fact you can have a day-trip to Lake Como very easily.
Wonderful hotel with top service. Lugano is beautiful and the hotel is in an excellent position to see everything and be away from it all. It’s friendly to kids while being elegant. The drink outside has an amazing view and dinner is well worth the price. Recommended family room: junior suite, S, on the same floor as the pool. Why not five stars on Trip Advisor 1. The hotel is a bit noisy at night and the noise woke us up a few times (bring ear plugs) 2. The Sunday pool attendant asked my daughter and her friend to be quiet so a baby sleeping in the pool area wouldn’t wake up. The girls were not being loud at all - but rather very respectful. The mom asking of this proceeded to shoot looks at the kids whenever they even spoke. I believe the attendant gave the woman power by asking this of the kids, thinking it was appropriate to ask people to be quiet in a pool area, and believe the attendant should have suggested that mom and baby returned to the room. At the very least, the attendant should have spoken to me, not the kids. What really got me was that the attendant then always reminded us to “put gratuity here” with every at-pool order, which felt very un-Swiss. (She needs better training, obviously; the regular pool attendant—a male—was wonderful.) 3. I found it absurd to have to pay for in-room coffee after using the first three Nespresso pods. Really odd for this standard of hotel and for the fact we were there five nights and no “free” refill of coffee pods. Overall an exceptional hotel; I’d return without hesitation.
It is the most perfect hotel in Switzerland in my opinion. Friendly staff, great service and a superb location for a romantic weekend. The view is just breathtaking, nice secluded pool and a great breakfast terrace.
