The hotel is very good like location, price, comfort, staff service and breakfast. Is there free shuttle to the center. Excellent breakfast. Nice view- top of the downtown and lake. Very good breakfast. I have only one negative remark- the young one driver of shuttle can't speak english and don't know very well the streets of Lugano, it's italian.
When we booked the Park Hotel Principe we were well aware that the luxury (and more expensive) sister property with the gorgeous views of the lake was located right next door. We opted for the best of both worlds actually, by enjoying a wonderful spacious, but slightly outdated, room on the ground floor at Park Hotel. The room was very quiet and the aircon kept it nice and cool without being to noisy. The swimming pool in the large garden is just perfect, offering limited views of the surrounding mountains, but no lake view. Poolside service was attentive, friendly and efficient. In the evenings we would walk accross to the 5 star sister hotel next door to enjoy a wonderful dinner and amazing views of the lake. The free shuttle service from Park Hotel to Lugano (7 minutes drive) works very well too, as you don't really want to walk up the rather steep hill from the city. Breakfast at Park Hotel was OK, but nothing really special. We would recommend changing the worn green carpet on the steps leading from reception to the rooms at Park Hotel... Other then that, we really enjoyed our stay.
The park principe is very charming in decor. Very roman in design look n feel. Spacious rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. My only suggestion would be to please have a better shuttle service. While it’s around the centre of Lugano it’s on a hill that’s pretty steep and NO public transport services. Only taxis. And the hotel shuttle starts late 10.15 am and ends early by 6.15pm. Not helpful to visiting guests. Otherwise it’s a fine hotel.
The problem with this hotel is that it is opposite its sister hotel Villa Principe Leonardo and like some siblings it can't get over the fact that its rival is better and more glamorous. It would be fine if they accept the fact that its sister is five-stars and it is not but it can't and the staff behave as if they are working in the other hotel - the one with the magnificent lake views and lovely modern pool and five-star facilities. I wish we had booked there instead. But, Park Hotel Principe has a pool in a natural, country-style setting with garden full of azaleas plus glimpses of mountain views. This was a saving grace for us. The rooms are big, spacious and clean but old fashioned. All the ones we saw had a dangerous step down separating levels. But the rooms still have something of the opulent feel of the hotel's former luxury status. The staff were mostly indifferent and rarely missed an opportunity to over-charge. When I pay $25 for a small Negroni cocktail, I kinda expect a view to go with it, perhaps of the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building or the facade of the Milan cathedral, not the drab dining room of this ultimately underwhelming hotel. When I commented on this, I was told: "Well, this is Switzerland." Exactly. If you are going to stay on the lake at Lugano, make sure you book a room with a lake view. This is not offered at this hotel and the saving is simply not enough to make up for it.
We stayed three nights in this twin hotel of Villa Principe. It is not as glamorous and ad exquisitely situated as the Villa but it does offer all ingredients for a comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious with airco, a large flat screen TV and roller blinds. The bathroom is not large and rather dated with the shower in the bath tub. The breakfast offers a good selection and can be taken outside, weather permitting. There is a large swimming pool with deckchairs and a large lawn. The staff is courteous, friendly and service minded. We look back on an enjoyable stay and would consider returning some time in the future.
this is the title brother of Principe Leopoldo hotel, but i do think its a very nice place for a long stay in Lugano. the rooms are spacious, with a big window that face a very nice garden with a swimming pool. birds wake you in the morning. its so relaxing and quiet. the bed is really comfortable so you can have a very good night of sleep. the bathroom is not that big but good enough. the breakfast is well served and the staff is kind and attentive to your needs. we use to stay there every time we are in Lugano and we have the same room always! to go to the centre you well need a car because its a little faraway, but if you like to walk, its a nice walk with a tremendous view.
We arrived at the hotel with high expectations that in the end did not come true. The hotel is rather outdated, reminds me in terms of decoration, of the hotels in the ‘80s. The room was large and very clean but the hotel overall is not well maintained. Also we believed from the information provided that the hotel is walking distance to the lake and the center which was not true. We had to take the car and park in the center every day in the morning and in the evening. Without a car, things would have been complicated. On the positive side, the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The surrounding greens very very nice!
Really nice hotel, looks a bit dated but rooms are huge, clean and comfortable. Perfect if you travel with kids. It is quiet and sleep quality is great. We couldn't have breakfast there as we needed to leave really early in the morning, but this was no problem as we had our "packet" breakfast ready at the reception with a lot of things inside! :-)
Isolated hotel requiring personal auto to get to main downtown area at reasonable times. Otherwise, a hotel shuttle is available at the earliest 10:30 am. The last shuttle pickup from the downtown area is 6:15 pm. Of course, a taxi is another option. Shuttle is not available for transport to the train station. Room had dirty carpet, an unsafe electrical plugin, no price listing for the mini bar, only warm (not hot) water for the shower, no cream for the coffee and minimal amenities for the bathroom. Hotel café is restaurant style with high pricing and opens at 7 pm for dinner (late for early eaters). A bar listing for a club sandwich is $45 CHF and the snack listing is an omelet. Without transportation to town, a customer is captive with high priced food and the only option to eat mini bar food if a light meal, or snack, is desired. Hotel front desk staff varied from friendly to curt and unfriendly, mostly the latter. Have been in Switzerland for a month at nine previous hotels around the country. This hotel was most challenging and happy to leave after two nights.
It is my 3 time in this hotel. I like it. Comfortable big rooms ( bed room + līvi g room ) , good spaces for children. Nice view. Good service in restaurant, delicious breakfast . Friendly stuff. Recommended to stay for holidays
