An old fashioned and well located hotel as next to the bus station. Staff were especially friendly and polite. The place was comfortable. Breakfast - hot component - could be more diversified but the breakfast itself adequate. Overall a pleasant stay.
We recently had afternoon tea in this lovely establishment just before we left the city, after a fabulous two day Lucca stay. It was a perfect final memory of a beautiful city. Although the hotel itself may have been beyond our budget, the afternoon tea was fairly priced and excellent quality. There was a choice of biscuits or cakes and tea or coffee. The small, front, outside terrace was a great vista for people watching as the hotel was ideally located near one of the main gates to the city. Special mention needs to go to the waiter / barman, who was hospitable, friendly, a real lovely chap, who helped to make a great lasting impression. Grazie!
You can't beat the location, just inside the city walls. They have parking right next to the hotel (which they share with the police so it should be safe). The common areas as well as our room were meticulously clean. The room we had was large. It was not especially luxurious, but it was very nice. The staff was just fabulous. The two nights we were there a gentleman and a woman manned the front desk. They could not have been more helpful with our questions and requests. The bartender/waiter for the afternoon aperitif was such a pleasant man. And I can say the same for the woman serving in the breakfast room. The hotel has bicycles for use by guests and I highly recommend you use them to ride along the wall. We have walked the city in a previous visit, but riding around the city on the wall gives you an entirely different perspective.
We were part of a party of 14 who travelled to Lucca in October to visit and enjoy the local area. The Luca Palace Hotel was a great place to stay. Our room was large, well appointed and spotlessly clean. The bed was comfortable and we both slept well. The breakfast was very comprehensive, and high quality. The staff, with the exception of one incident at breakfast, were superb. Always smiling, helpful and on hand to make our stay enjoyable. We often enjoyed the bar late in the evening where Franco and his free pour skills were appreciated. The hotel is situated on the western side of the walled city on one of the arterial routes. So walking or using the hotels bikes to discover the town was easy and convenient. After eating well everywhere, a morning cycle ride around the walls became a great way to get some fresh air and start the day, as well being a very pretty ride. I would have no hesitation in staying at The Luca Palace Hotel again.
This little independent hotel does a really good job. The convenient parking area, very knowledgeable front desk staff, efficient housekeeping, large rooms and a very nice breakfast. The location is inside the city walls of this beautiful city is great. They even have bikes to use to go exploring Lucca.
Our 16-member tour group stayed here for three nights. Great location in the colonial part of the city, within the medieval and Roman walls. There’s a supermarket three blocks away—fresh fruit, cheese, juice… Everything you need to stretch your travel budget. The breakfast buffet is awesome, a server inquiring which hot beverage guests request. Cappuccino, of course☺ Room 34 was assigned. It is spacious & comfortable, with an adequate bathroom that has modern fixtures. Sleep quality is excellent. Why, then, my less than stellar rating? Air conditioner condensation ran down the wall and puddled on the oak floor, causing the boards to buckle. When I informed someone at registration, he told me the temperature was set too low. Notice I said he “told” me, not ask what temp I had selected—which was 23ºC, about 73ºF. No one came to the room to verify the temperature, so I dried the wall and floor. When I returned for the tour group dinner, so had the puddle, although I had raised the temp to 25ºC. Another trip to registration on the world’s slowest elevator to hear, “We are aware of this.” The next morning at a wonderful breakfast in an elegant dining room, I learned five other tour members had the same issue in their rooms. Returning to the room, I slid on a puddle of water under the a/c vent in the hallway. I returned to registration and demanded that the general manager accompany me to these danger spots. As a rental property owner in Florida, I’m accustomed to high humidity causing algae in the condensation pans that lead to water overflowing. The manager lifted the ceiling tile and discovered this to be the cause. I guess it wasn’t the temperature setting. Even if that was the cause, did the manager set the hallway a/c at a low setting? To allow a dangerous slip/fall scenario in a hotel hallway is unacceptable. The only reason I didn’t give a deserved 5-Star rating is that registration staff members ASSUME guests set the a/c temp too low.
We had a very large room even by American standards. The floors were a wood parquet, high ceilings, and large windows with luxurious drapes; fitting for the hotel name. The room and bathroom were immaculate. The breakfast buffet was good with a varied selection. The one down side was there was no coffee or tea in the room.
this hotel is very well decorated but in a subdued style and the staff are truly excellent as any requests such as use of bicycles or umbrellas etc are treated with great concern and with a friendly manner - we found all the staff [who are an asset] to speak good english but were more than willing to let us practice our halting italian on them with great patience - we have warm memories of this hotel - which is close to the walls which are perfect for cycling if your rusty and with no vehicles !! and the views over Lucca are stunning. we will certainly stay here again
We have recently returned from a one weeks stay in Tuscany basing ourselves randomly at the San Lucca Palce. This was pure luck that we found such a great hotel with wonderful helpful staff. The hotel is spotlessly clean and even the continental breakfast is something to look forward to. Lucca is a wonderful walled town and this hotel is near the city walls just on the outskirts but within 2 minutes walk into the action. If we had any criticism is would be that there was no tea/coffee making facility in the room.
A really pleasant hotel, well situated on the edge of the old town with a small car park (bonus!). The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a room on the 4th floor which was big and comfortable, but not very light due to small windows on this floor. The breakfast buffet is good but there is no evening meal service; not a problem as there are of course many good eating places nearby. They do however serve light appetisers to guests in the bar from 6pm. Recommended
