OLA Hotel Maioris - All inclusive4.0 out of 5.0

We were looking for a cheap getaway with sunshine and a relaxing time which we got! It was my friend and I's first all-inclusive holiday and it gave us a nice long weekend of sun and over-indulging in food and alcohol. The room was pleasant but and clean but there were some dubious stains on the bedsheet. The food/drink was plentiful and there was a good variety available. There isn't too much in the local area which wasn't a problem for us as we had a rental car. Although there were groups of friends staying there, there was also a mixture of families and there was never anything too rowdy going on.
Our fourth trip to the Ola,love the area and so close to Palma. Our only gripe is that when we arrived we were told (not asked) that we would need to share a room with my parents on the first night, same happened two years ago with my daughter and fiancé. The hotel has had a complete renovation which was much needed and rooms are now lovely, but the price we paid reflects this and I don't think it's acceptable to just expect couples to share rooms even for one night. Was disappointed as I had suggested my parents would love the hotel as much as we do but this has totally put me off booking the hotel for the future. So come on Ola get your act together,if you are now charging 4 star prices it is not acceptable to expect guests to share rooms, the guy on reception (has been there for the past 10 years we have been visiting) is rude and acts like it's not a problem. Other than that hotel is very good, perfect for families and couples
So, where shall I start? We arrived by coach from the airport and were quickly and efficiently dealt with by the reception staff. We paid the €23 holiday tax which to be honest is normal. At this point I would recommend hiring the safe dongle that makes the safe that is in your room work. This is again €10 deposit and a week costs €17 so you will get the 10 back. So the room, very nicely decorated, clean lines and spotlessly clean. The A/C was in my opinion poor. I read in another review that they acquired another key from reception and left it on all day which, as ours in block B was so under powered, maybe if left on all day it would work better? All inclusive, Now, I have again seen some reviews on here stating that the food choices were scarce and boring? I never found that at all, the food quality was good and there was always plenty of it available. I think those that have reviewed the food as boring and not many choices were the people eating pizza, nuggets and chips every meal, I am adventurous with my food so am always open to trying new things. I would recommend always getting to the the mealtimes about an hour after they open as the food hall then is a little quieter. The drinks were good and think that Estrella that they had on draught was good!.No end of spirits to have also, wine, Sangria and even Cava which my wife loved. The pools were clean and warm, the splash park was cold to begin with but once you were in it was fine. I have to agree with another review written on here that it is extremely slippery so if you have young ones it is worth investing in a pair of non slip neoprene swim shoes. The sun loungers in the splash park area go in very quick fashion over here and the stereo typical German tactic of placing towel on the sun loungers is in full effect. Get there early or just use towel on grassy area. The ice cream machine is great but every now and then conks out but when working was a great touch. No so much trouble getting a sun lounger around the main pool area, we always managed to get one even when turning up mid day. The staff, Anke, lady on reception is a wonderful ambassador for the hotel, warm friendly, helpful and willing to assist on anything you need. So hi 5 on that one! Peter, the lovely young man from slovakia working on the animation team was always tentative on getting the adults up to play football or get involved in other activities. he was very friendly and a good guy. The beach is a good 15 minute walk away and a bit of a hike as the windy cliff road will show you no mercy when you ascend back up it! I had a hire car so drove down. This is a rocky beach but the water there is A1 for snorkeling or diving as crystal clear. The Mhares sea club although looked nice is astronomical on prices, so be warned. Very up market but this is reflected in the costs. 2 minutes up the road is a cafe which serves real coffee as what was on offer in the hotel I couldn't drink! It is drinkable just not for me! The supermarket is also very well stocked for everything. Next to the cafe is a pharmacy should you need it. If you are after a break away from the hotel, down the road a 5 minute stroll is a small restaurant and shopping complex with lots of varieties to take your fancy. All in all this was a great little holiday, not near a beach but if you have a car that is not an issue, take the Free shuttle bus to El Arenal or Palma which is worth doing as the city is beautiful with plenty of things to do and see. I will certainly be returning in the future to this hotel as it was good value.
Second time here was so disappointing. Entertainment was aimed at the French and German's. Kids club was very poor, unlike the year before. Food was a 'hit or a miss'. Rooms are great and staff are helpful. Kids loved the pool and were happy to eat chips all day! Won't be back!
Two days into our family holiday and already dreading it! We requested for poolside view when making the booking and did not get it.. which is fine as the hotel was full.. however day 1 we noticed that the ceiling under the aircon was leaking, reported to reception, no action taken..day two in the morning again reported.. no one came and checked the room. We went to the beach came back had dinner stayed for the entertainment which was great and returned to a room with the ceiling falling off. Reported to reception the ladies said we had to wait 10mins as their shift was changing. So waited around then was given a key for the room next door.. no apology or anything.
we stayed beginning of june only had 4 days but weather glorious all 4 days, hotel very clean and staff friendly modern rooms large enough but little balcony. food was a bit disapointing first two day rubber eggs you could bounce off the floor and hotdogs and chips for breakfast but this did improve on the thrid day with omolates cooked to order at breakfast, drink good, as for the reviews about animation team only speaking to the french well as a english guy I can only speak from my own experience but all the animation team always asked us to participate in the activites every day even though we always said no thank you and i had some lovely conversations with two of the animation team particualy Christoff the head of animation team i got his life story, very interesting lovely guy, overall a great hotel to chill out as it is a little bit away from hussel and bussel the big question, would i return, yes i would, for longer this time and take advantage of the free bus to the beach and Palma.
Just returned from a week's family holiday (2 adults 1 toddler.) The room was basic but lovely and clean. My son loved the splash park and football court , however the park could do with some attention. There was plenty of choice in the restaurant even for my husband who is a vegetarian, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. Good selection of alcohol and the self service soft drinks were great. The hotel is situated in a very quiet area which wasn't a problem for us and there was a supermarket not too far away. We did catch the hotel bus to the beach but had to get a taxi back ( €20 )as we couldn't locate the public bus stop and the hotel bus wasn't returning for a number of hours. The air conditioning didn't work which was a bit of an issue. Overall we had a lovely time, I think the hotel is best suited for families with small children.
Great Hotel was clean, staff were very friendly and food was average but was always something for everyone's taste. Excellent Hotel for families with children. Only real downfall was that it's out too far away from a beach or any nightlife. Buses were available but not always ideal if last minute u want to go out etc that's when you have to pay out in taxis
We stayed here from 25th June for 10 days all inclusive and booked directly at the hotel. We have stayed at another Ola Hotel in Portal Nous (Tomir) previously and so knew what to expect. We arrived by private taxi to a busy reception and were told that our room would be 10 minutes - sure enough, 10 minutes later we were shown into a Superior Family Room in Block C. RECEPTION Anka is just the most lovely and helpful person. A total credit to the hotel - don't let her go! I didn't get the names of or have much interaction with the other reception staff, however they were all pleasant and helpful. Anka is a superstar though and my daughter doted on her. THE ROOM: This is one big room with two singles pushed together and a sofa bed for my 7 and 5 year olds to sleep on. The room was lovely and very clean. The balcony looked over the little football pitch and had a lovely view up to the mountains. We got the sun most of the day and could see a beautiful sunset at night. The restaurant is in Block C so it was really handy for popping down to breakfast and dinner. The blocks are close together though and so it wouldn't be an issue if you were in a different block. You can walk from one to the other without going outside. Two lifts which were never busy so we never had to wait. The room was cleaned regularly and although the air con wasn't great (my husband had the maintenance guy up and he said that it was working but that it was only on from 2pm to 4am) the room was cool enough during a heat wave. The flat screen telly is a nice touch, however we only had 3 channels and a radio station. Given that we weren't there for the telly and we all had tablets for some down time, we were ok with this. We were only in the room to sleep and get changed anyway! Wifi in the room was really good and we had this included as we booked directly in the hotel. It was really patchy in the show bar though. THE POOLS The splash pool was one of the biggest attractions when we booked this and it didn't disappoint. What a great thing for the hotel to have....if only the Dad's would remember its for the kids! I don't know how many I saw wipeout some unsuspecting child at the bottom of the slide. My two loved it and were regulars there. It is at the rear of the hotel and is open from 10-6, although the doors open around 0930 usually and there can be a bit of a queue to get your towel down. It can be very busy so its worth going along for a good spot with an umbrella if you can. There is fizzy juice and water on tap. Also a self serve ice-cream machine. The main pool is a really good size and depth and was always good fun. All the facilities eg snack bar, restaurant and toilets are right by this and so we spent a lot of time here. We were at the hotel when the wee boy nearly drowned in the pool, but didn't see it actually happen. Happy to say he appeared to be fine a few days later when he returned and was back playing with the other kids. Frightening thing for the parents to go through. I can't comment on what happened other than we didn't see the lifeguard for the remainder of our stay. On the cleanliness of the pool - can I just say that the staff do a fantastic job of cleaning and every morning they worked hard to get things clean and tidy, however they are up against some absolute pigs. People seemed to think that just because they were all inclusive they could leave everything for someone else to pick up and it was someone else's job to clean up after their kids! The staff are fighting a losing battle but do it very well. THE RESTAURANT Its all inclusive - people need to stop expecting a la carte. Both my children survived on chips, pizza, chicken nuggets, pasta, crackers and fruit for 10 days. There is however plenty of choice and neither I nor my husband struggled to have a lovely meal every time. Yes it was busy depending on when you went down, however the chefs and the wait staff are amazing. There is a constant stream of hot food and at each meal there is something getting cooked fresh there and then. Breakfast was my favorite meal of the day, particularly with fresh pancakes cooked in front of me! The staff are a credit to the restaurant - they work so so hard. On a number of occasions I helped myself to knives and forks as they are turning over tables so quickly. You only have to see the disgraceful state some people leave their tables to sympathise with them. Honest to god people - pick up after your children!!!! I think the idea of a 'kid's dinner' is fab. Between 5.30 and 6.30pm in the patio area of the restaurant there was a dedicated kid's meal with Oli - can't say I ever saw him there (he is the Crab and icon of the kid's club), however we had very many lovely meals with Veronika (kid's club entertainer) before heading upstairs for a shower. My youngest usually had something to eat here which meant that I didn't stress at dinner as I knew she had already had a good meal. Unfortunately some of the guests seemed to think this was part of the all inclusive deal and I witnessed an adult family from northern Ireland decimate the chicken escalopes for a pre-dinner snack! SNACK BAR There was a good selection provided throughout the day, however never bothered with it having eaten so well in the restaurant. The bar staff, again work ridiculously hard, and were always very quick to serve. My kids never tired of visiting for ice-poles or slushy drinks. ENTERTAINMENT All the comments about it being French orientated are true. One afternoon all the adult entertainers went to the airport to collect the French guests, bring them to the hotel and help allocate their rooms. They even get different colored wrist bands! The entertainers really go out of their way for them and they started two extra kids entertainers during our time there - solely for the French kids, keeping them all day! The Kid's club was a great opportunity for my two to get out of the sun and do some craft stuff. Veronika and the two boys that work there (not at the same time, usually one or two on shift) work very hard. One of the boys spent time at the splash pool one day playing games with the boys that were there - they should do that everyday - they had a ball! Veronika had them all doing a treasure hunt around the hotel looking for pearls - it was great! Its open 1030 to 1300 and then 1500 to 1700. The football pitch was a bit of a let down unfortunately. Our first few nights there our 7 year old joined in with a load of kids of various ages just having a kick about and it was great - thereafter it was either closed (meant to be at 7pm which is far too early) or they couldn't get on as the volleyball net hadn't been taken down. I feel that this is a real missed opportunity for the kids who are too old for the mini-disco and lack something to do after dinner. Also the table tennis was a bit of a let down. At the Ola Tomir they have adult and children competitions in the evening - great fun! At the Maioris you can't get a bat and ball after 1730. More and more families hire them through the day and just keep them so that they can use them at night, which is what we ended up doing with the help of a lovely receptionist! The mini disco is definitely more for the wee ones. There is a Thomson kids club on site and their entertainers join in for that which is good. We didn't really bother with this. The evening entertainment was actually quite good. We had the flamenco dancers which are always amazing to watch, a really good magician and a man that brought in a snake and tortoise among other things - big hit with the kids. The rest of the time the entertainers put on a show and they work really really hard at it. Its good light fun. Throughout the day the entertainers put on petanc, darts, football, pool polo, aqua gym, zumba and dances. They are never pushy but always invite you to take part. They really work hard, however I do feel that they could put on some of these things for the slightly older children too. We went to El Arenal beach on the very handy free bus provided by the hotel and although the beach is lovely, I wouldn't recommend for families. Highly populated by young Germans having a great time. We didn't witness any trouble, just a lot of people drinking and having a good time. Not sure if there is a better part for families, we didn't venture too far. Aqualand is a great day out if you like waterparks - lots of rides for families (adult and child can do together) and if you get there early in the day (it opens at 10) go to the big slides first before the queues build up. Lockers are 5 Euros to rent and we paid 13 Euros for a margarita pizza to supplement our picnic. We paid 94 Euros for the trip through the hotel and we were picked up and dropped off directly. The height limit for most of the rides is 1.2m. We also used the hotel's free bus to Palma and had a fab day out - really worth going and visiting this beautiful city. The hotel is in a residential area and we walked around one night for a break from the hotel - the houses are beautiful. We ventured to the rocky path down to the beach, but didn't go down but I don't think its for the kids. We had a lovely holiday here and given that it is a short distance from the airport and is very family orientated, giving everything we want from a reasonably priced holiday, I think we will book again for next year. We did talk to a number of families that had been before so it is usually a good indicator if people come back.
We visited OlaClub Maioris as a family with our little girl and with another family of 4. We all had a great time! We had two babies who were 4months old and we managed everything with ease! First off transfer is 20 minutes or so which is great! The weather was fantastic, the hotel was clean and the rooms were perfect for all you need when away. The three pools were great and not too busy however I can imagine in the height of summer they can get quite full! I think people were queuing for the pool with slides in the mornings! The food was delicious especially if you like fish. There was always something to eat that you'd like! Even for fussy people! The Entertainment team did their best to get people joining in with activities. They were full of energy and friendly! The only couple of things I found a problem were that there were only umbrellas round the pool with slides and not the other 2 pools where the majority of people were. Seeing this is a family hotel I do think the sunbeds should have optional umbrellas around. There were shaded areas but you couldnt always guarantee these. When you've got children you need shade! The other thing is personal for me and my family that to get anywhere properly you needed to get a bus. Just difficult with children and prams! Doable but a nuisance! There were a few shops and restaurants close by but when going to the beach by bus it's a bit annoying! Beach was lovely by the way! Sea was beautiful! Overall a brilliant holiday!
