Have always wanted to go to Africa for a safari and to see the falls. Was not happy that the falls had very little water going over it. Might consider going again but only when there is lots of water. Enjjoyed the 2 hour boat ride up the river. They served some real good food along with drinks
Stayed for 2 nights. The game wandering around is great, although it makes you look at the life-size crocodile sculpture by the pool very carefully once you've had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The main reason for staying here for us was the proximity to the Falls, and the free entry to the Zambia side was a bonus - it meant we could just get in before it closed the evening we arrived after a long drive - how could you not? And you can hear the Falls from your room.... The rooms were comfortable, although there were a couple of small maintenance issues. The pool was freezing - the Zambezi's much warmer! The bar was in a great location, north African decor, live music, good cocktails. You can eat by the bar/ pool as well. There was a pleasant sense of spaciousness in the attractive grounds. The food was better buffet than a la carte. The buffet was extensive, both at breakfast and in the evenings. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Top Tip: sit further away from the pool at breakfast and watch other people have their food stolen by the monkeys - it's funny when it's not your breakfast!
Stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of November 2017 at the end of a small group tour of South Africa and Zambia. Our stay here was the highlight of our tour. This hotel has a great location, being as it is a 5 minute walk from the Zambian side of the Victoria falls (we visited at the end of the dry season, the but falls were still a sight to see). The hotel is welcoming, with a quirky theme and characterful rooms (if a bit faded in part) and has a wonderful setting with lovely grounds including a lake area. Its quite incredible to wake up in the morning, open your curtains and see Zebra right outside your window looking in at you, Giraffe and Zebra drinking from the swimming pool and monkeys running around the grounds- got to be a unique experience and one I wont forget. The hotel is, after all, in the national park area, so don't be surprised to see elephants just outside of the hotel gate also. The food is good (both buffet style breakfast where staff are really helpful and friendly) and evening meals from the bar area (where staff again are helpful- although service is a little slow). Free Wi Fi works well in rooms, there are free in room safes and for those that like to watch sport there are numerous sport channels in room. Staff at reception did make a mistake with pre - authorising an amount from my credit card on arrival, and instead took a payment- but after a word with them they made sure they refunded me, in USD cash, for unused amount at the end of my stay. Bar food is relatively inexpensive. Special mention for the person that cleaned my room- who was excellent!
Excellent location - where else can you walk round the grounds and almost bump into a giraffe or zebra. Food good and service excellent - laundry turned round in 3 hours. Couldn't recommend more highly.
Great location next to the Falls on the Zambia side x gardens have zebras and impalas and naughty monkeys x photos taken with giraffes at feeding time x buffet food not great x cocktails good x close to catching boat for trip to Devils Pool which is a must x walk on top of the Falls with a local guide is worth doing x
Avani certainly lived up to expectations in terms of its surroundings- the pool area is beautiful and the Reception , where you receive a lively traditional welcome,is also very attractive. It's difficult not to be excited by the appearance of zebras at various times of day and night, plus you can spot giraffe if you wander round the grounds. The large bathrooms contain a bath and a surprisingly hot shower! The food at the pool bar was tasty. You can pop along to visit the falls whenever you like.
The tour company we used booked our room for three nights prior to joining our main tour group in J/Burg. Check in was efficient, Bags and ourselves transported in golf style buggies to our room. Rooms are located around the edge of the property and are on two floors. Pool area and bar/food located between rooms and reception. The main restaurant was open only for breakfast on our visit due to under occupancy. Not the busiest time when we visited. Breakfast was good, buffet style with an egg station for omelettes etc. We did eat two nights by the pool. Food was O.K. Entertainment on both nights. Local traditional music on one night and a group/band on the other. All staff friendly, but in particular, Martha, Theresa, Trinity and Linda. Others whose names i don't recall all aimed to please. A credit to the hotel and their training. We did walk across to the sister property The Royal Livingstone and also used the shuttle between the two. ( golf type buggy) It is obvious the Royal Livingstone pitches itself as a notch above the Avani. We did eat one there and it was very pleasant. Do have a drink/sundowner one night on their wooden deck/bar area as the sun goes down. Wonderful spot. Zebras, Impala's and giraffe do roam the grounds. On many occasions monkeys as well. It is not unusual to see the zebras grazing on the lawns. One afternoon walking between the Avani and the Livingstone hotel staff directed us to a spot to feed Zebra and giraffe. Rooms are of a certain age and style as befits a hotel in this area. It is not a problem for me and the slightly rustic feel just adds to the atmosphere of the surroundings. Do take the walk through the Park gate to get up close with views of the mass and the gorge. It is true that at this time of year the Zambian side is shallow but still a wonderful sight. free entry fro guests of the hotel and as many times as you wish. We did use the services of the Bushtracks representative adjacent to the front desk for extra things to do. The best of which was the 30 min. helicopter trip over the falls. If you can raise the cash then do it. Tremendous. AuroraUK
Looks like "little" clubMed resort. but it seems the managements are not that good. The restaurant foods are poor and everyday has same menu with very salty. We stayed 3 nights and had almost all menus but they were not good. One night was so cold like 17 degree at night but there is no inside restaurant. It was difficult with 3 small kids. The rooms were small but it was O.K. the location was good very close to the falls.
Definately one of the best hotels I have stayed in for uniqueness. Close to the Victoria Falls and its sister hotel the Royal Livingstone, the Avani offers spacious nicely decorated rooms with a great pool bar and nice food. Beware the main restaurant only opens for breakfast or when its really busy, the rest of the time its closed so you have to use the pool bar for lunch and dinner. Loved seeing the monkeys being chased off at breakfast as they came in to see what was on offer! and to see Giraffes and impala walking around the grounds. But the stars of the show are the Zebra, who frequent the hotel grounds at most times of the day to graze or drink (from the pool on occasions). Nice to pop across to the sister hotel for drinks on the decking watching the sunset over the Zambezi. The food at the Royal Livingstone was nice but nothing special as we had expected and the service (as mentioned before) can be slow at times. Used the hotel to visit both the Falls - literally a short walk away and Chobe game reserve in Botswana - an hours drive away. Would definately recommend this hotel and the animal interaction (the hotel is located within the national park) is an added bonus.
Excellent room, good food, good service. Zebra wandering around the pool makes this a surreal experience. Needs a map of the site and how to get to Victoria Falls and the sister hotel for new guests. We had a drink and snack at the sister hotel but apparently you have to have your room card scanned at the sister hotel (Royal Livingstone), which meant I had to pay in cash. This was not explained by Avani, just that I could use the room card. Visitors BEWARE of the traders by Vic Falls (nothing to do with Avani) as they are simply robbing dogs, interested in relieving you of as much money as they can. They push you into things and push you from one trader to another. Avoid at all costs!
