We spent one night at this hotel, on our way to Paris. We booked the room 3 hours before arriving through Amoma, and everything was just clean and ready when we arrived. Nice staff, clean room, great breakfast.
We stayed here just over a week ago as an overnight hotel arranged with Shearings for our coach load of holiday makers returning to the UK. It was quite late when we arrived as our coach had got held up in traffic and we had to go for our evening meal at the nearby Brasserie Liegoise restaurant before we could check in as the hotel does not do evening meals. There are 2 lifts, we couldn`t find any nearby stairs so as there were a full coach load of us there was a bit of a queue before we all got to our rooms, however when we did it was a pleasant surprise to find a massive twin room furbished with tea, coffee, etc and a very large long bathroom. It was obvious the room had been recently refurbished as everything was clean and modern looking. Although the bathroom was large the shower was in the middle and the toilet and basin at opposite ends of the shower. It would have been more practical to have the shower at one end and the toilet and basin side by side, but we were only staying for one night and had to be up early the next day so didn`t get much chance to see the facilities the hotel had or the surrounding location, although it appeared to be in a busy area with quite a few shops around the area. Breakfast the next morning was buffet style and quite rushed as we only had 45 minutes from the start to when we had to get on our coach for the journey home. Content of the food available for breakfast appeared to have everything for either continental or a cooked meal with a toast making machine and tea/coffee and fruit juice all available, however the bread and butter was located in a different area to the toast machine and it was a bit confusing as to where this and that item was located in order to get the food you wanted, it seemed as though you were getting a plate, etc from an area away from the food you wanted to put on it, but then again there were a lot of us in a smallish breakfast room and we were rushed as well, so had we been able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast it may have been a nicer eating experience, but what we did have was very enjoyable and there was plenty of it.
I booked this hotel through amoma.com and the booking details includes "Mandatory city tax to be paid at the hotel is 0 JPY for the entire booking". But the receptionist asked to pay it when I checked-in. So I inquired about the thing and the receptionist only repeated; 1. We are not working with amoma. They are wrong and just inquire to them. 2. It's written everywhere. I wasn't asking any refund. But the hotel'd better to offer the correct details to the customers and make amoma or any other agent to specify the correct information because there was another customer like me who had doubts about charging the city tax of this hotel following a review of booking.com. The receptionist answered "I don't. I'm just a receptionist. I'm not in charge of" to my ask for an effort which the hotel side can make. The staffs of hotel industry would be very familiar with such a policy like charging city tax but some customers are not. I hope there is no more customer who feel confused about additional payment or experience that inappropriate respond of the staffs. Of course, amoma should revise the details because it's deceit.
The hotel is right across the street from the main train station in Liege and somewhat of a minute walk from the old town -- enough said? The area is pretty crummy with only bars and kabobs, on the other hand, the hotel is a little above what you expect for this area. The first impression is not so good, the front door is next to an abandoned storefront with a very narrow lobby leading to a narrow bar/breakfast area. Upstairs was better, my room was comfortable and clean with reasonable furniture. I stayed for four days in June, 2017 and the weather was unseasonably hot. The AC was not able to have much effect so it was extremely stuffy and warm in the entire hotel. There is a cabinet in the desk that probably held a mini-fridge at one time but it was empty, so no cold drinks either. Lots of restaurants, bars and shopping in the old town but about a 15 minute, uninteresting walk. The hotel was Ok overall but it would be better to stay closer to the old town, so I'm not coming back.
Cant beat the location across the street from the train station but the highlights stop there. No AC but I did manage to wrestle a fan from a housekeeper to make it through a stifling night. The WiFi is free and does work. No fridge in the room. No ice maker in the hotel- the bar can give you a beer mug full of ice though. Shower was decent. Don't use the shoe shin sponge- it ruined my shoes. Breakfast was acceptable and worth the 12euro prepaid.
Although Reception was quite helpful it was not the best place Ive stayed, Room although basic stunk of smoke, I requested a non smokers room but there were a load of fag ends outside the outside window into a courtyard, very basic, not a holiday place to stay, it was the day of the F1 Spa race, restricted availability, I suppose having a room at short notice should have been the warning !
I chose this hotel due to its proximity to Guillemins railway station. This is the only reason to stay here, I guess. 1/ asked for a quiet room with bathtub - was given a room with shower facing the noisy street 2/ AC didn't work properly - just blew the warm air into the room. With 26 degrees outside it wasn't a pleasant night. Unfortunately it was too late to change the room at 2:00 AM. 3/ Asked the receptionist for an extra blanket - was told that none is available (?). 4/ On check-out another receptionist (young lady) looked very annoyed when I asked her to call a taxi. Breakfast was more or less OK, though.
The room air conditioning was not working, we were told their system was still on winter mode. We requested to have the window unlocked, which made it impossible to sleep since the train station was directly across the street. The faucet in the bathroom was broken, causing water to spray all over when using it. I don't believe their rating on this site is accurate. Their staff is hardly friendly and accommodating. I will never go there again.
Our room was okay, although a little awkwardly arranged for 3 people, and it was quiet, but it did not have wifi. Apparently it doesn't reach the 3-person rooms, something that was not explained to us at check-in. We could, however, stand down the hall and get a signal---that was inconvenient. The neighborhood can be sketchy, especially at night, but it is close to many restaurants, which was nice. The view from our room was pretty bad--an ugly lot that looked like a wasteland. There is a great park about 1/4 mile away though that was perfect for a morning run, and it was easy to find awesome bakeries and chocolate shops within a block or two. There's a Starbucks and a little grocery directly across the street at the train station too. There was no parking near the hotel, so we had to park on the street about 4 - 5 blocks away where aggressive homeless people yelled at us from a nearby doorstep at night and again in the morning. Not quite what we were expecting from this hotel and the neighborhood, but again, fine for one night's stay.
I stayed at Husa de la Couranne for 2 nights earlier this week. It is awise choice if you want an inexpensive but clean hotel. The Guillemins Avenue is full of brasseries, restaurants and cafes. The Gare de Liege is only 3 minutes away. The breakfast is very nice with several choices.
