Hotel Ombremont-Restaurant Le Bateau Ivre

A Dream Place to Stay

Once I had mapped out our trip -- Riviera, Provence, Switzerland, Lake Como -- the one that I was least sure was a great idea turned out to be our absolute favorite. This place is a stunner. Understated, perched against a mountain whose shadow sets against the mountain across the lake..... A sense of quiet and serenity, a lake the color of forever -- and perhaps best of all, the best eating we had on our trip -- the 2-star Michelin restaurant up the road was glassy and classy and sumptuous.....but at least as glorious were the little shops in town. We purchased terrines, quiches, meats -- and savored them with closed eyed appreciation for how beautiful some sensations can be. That little town -- Bourget du Lac -- has a cluster of magnificent gourmet shops.....worth going back to again and again.
