The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa4.0 out of 5.0

The resort is nice albeit a little old. Our room was big and clean and right in front of the salt water pool which was fantastic. Staff was polite and we had someone sent over immediately to help us with the safe and the fridge in the room. Location was also very convenient as the resort is about 15'-20' from the main strip with all bars and restaurants. Overall very happy with our stay, hotel will benefit from some refurbishment but nothing to ruin our holiday. Would recommend.
Frangipani, like the rest of langkawi, feels like a missed opportunity. You will go for this resort if you just want a v quiet and peaceful beachfront retreat. Pros: - Big spacious rooms (deluxe rooms are arranged 4 in a single two storey building. Two upstairs and two downstairs. Connecting rooms.) - semi private beachfront. - very quiet. - many restaurants outside resort - responsive staff to requests - good water pressure in shower. Non air conditioned bathrooms are a plus for me. Cons: - tired and worn out premise - landscaping could have much better to suit its eco theme - small pool - rooms are rather bare and basic, though spacious - while there are restaurants outside resort, no shopping area. Have to go to main pantai cenang stretch to get some lively vibes. Entire surroundings are very quiet. May not see anyone on the streets at all sometimes. I think overall it is an ok place for people who are not particular about basic rooms and looking to just spend time lounging on deck chairs reading, suntanning etc. May not be so ideal for families with kids. Im not sure if i will return. Think i can get better and more comfy rooms with money spent.
We stayed for four nights from Mar 3 to 7 here. Pain points first: Don't expect early check-in or late check outs like in five star resorts. Their check-in time is 3 PM so if you reach at 12, they'll make you wait till 3. We stayed in Marriott, Sheraton and other five star resorts in other countries but were never denied early check-in or late checkout. Checkout is at 12 so they'll not be willing to extend. Swimming pool is basic without children's slide or shower rooms (you have to go all the way dripping in your swimming costume to a spa to shower). Amenities and breakfast expected from five star resorts are missing. Pleasure points: Prompt room service. Lovely private beach with white sand and okayish clarity waters. Loved the beach beds and bar with view overlooking the ocean. Ala carte menu is decent and tasty. Ample parking space. Many restaurants in a 15 minute walking distance. Overall stay was good but not five star level as we were expecting
First the good points - rooms are spacious and clean. Staff is quite friendly and also helped us with local sightseeing tours which were well conducted. Location is good and I think almost a center point for most of our sightseeing. Resort has a private beach which is again a positive. I agree with some reviewers that some parts of the resort do look dated and could be improved upon. For the price they charge, I think most expect better quality rooms and surroundings. Disappointing for us was the breakfast. Only buffet option is available and as vegetarians we hardly found anything to our liking. A nearby cafe has better veg options and at a lower price too! Other than that communication post booking was also very good and would definitely give them another chance in future.
Has its own private beach with beautiful sunset view. Breakfast was luxurious. The meal at the restaurant was pricey though and i do feel they’re slightly lack of manpower during peak hours. But the food is good. It is also near a private watersport company.
We spent our 25th anniversary at the frangipani after reading the website and reviews and are very disappointed. Agree with all the 1 star reviews, they reflect our experience exactly. This is a 2 star resort marketed as a 5 star resort. It’s seriously run down and needing major modernising. We guess they must be selling the resort and only doing essentials such as a/c as there are lots of resorts being constructed around it. We booked a garden villa and were shown to a villa overlooking bins, an air conditioner and a unkept garden. It was really depressing. We then were shown a beach villa that wasn’t great and asked to see another beach villa which was in a much better location. We decided to upgrade to a beach view villa for £200 a night. The view, a/c, beach and pools at the resort are good but the room had horrible hard beds, worn out furniture and the bathroom were shocking for the price we paid. Simply inexcusable conditions. One look under the thread-bear bed was enough to terrify anyone! The security staff were very friendly unlike the bar staff and main reception. The so-called ‘concierge’ was a joke - he grunted and shook his head when asked basic questions (ie where could be hire bikes or get a boat trip!). The bar staff were miserable and we ended up going to ‘bam boo bar’ around the corner each night for live music etc, which by comparison was excellent. Don’t stay at this resort - fundamentally a 2-star resort with 5-star prices. The pools are the only nice feature in the complex besides the amazing beach. My pictures are attached- even a cracked toilet for the outrageous price we paid.
What a disappointment! Beautiful location on the beach with lovely gardens and wonderful views. What a shame the hotel did not live up to our expectations. We had booked a deluxe room and found it overlooking a building site for a new hotel - very noisy as you would expect. So we asked to change rooms and in the end paid for an upgrade to a beach villa as it seemed all too difficult to find us another deluxe room. Beach villa was in a lovely position but the room was old and tired and the bathroom was frankly grubby. This resort needs to up its game if it is to survive the building of new deluxe hotels nearby. At the moment we suggest you don’t book this resort as the price does not reflect the value. This is a supposedly a 4 star hotel. We would not give it three! We certainly won’t be coming here again. Such a shame!
We have just stayed at this hotel for 6 nights and I wish we had booked somewhere else. It is far too overpriced for what you get!! We booked a twin room and paid about £1000 for the 6 nights. We were given the smallest room at the back of the hotel with a 'garden view' looking into the back of another room and it's air con! The garden was dirty and not looked after. When we complained, we were told we had only paid for the room and we could not be given another one. We spoke to the manager who continued to tell us that we hadn't paid for the nicer room and that we shouldn't base it on the photos on booking.com!! If you booked there and then the upgraded room was even cheaper than what we had paid!!! We asked for a refund to go somewhere else because obviously the hotel had taken the full cost out of my bank a few weeks before hand. Their policy is no refunds. After a few hours we decided to pay for the nicer room since we were staying there for 6 nights. We were given a 'reduced' price but still pushed the cost over £1000. The room was the same but with an outdoor shower, which was nice, and a much better view. The next day the air con broke and we were told we would have to move rooms as it couldn't be fixed. I asked for a refund on the extra money we paid but yet again was told it was against hotel policy to be given a refund! After yet another meeting with the manager we were given an 'upgrade' to the same room just a slightly better location. So we had to pack all of our stuff yet again and move. The beds are also rock solid so very uncomfortable every single night. The breakfast was ok. Not much variety and there were tiny ants/bugs crawling over the bread and on the sides. Each morning you had to take a piece of paper to breakfast to say you were entitled to it. Bit annoying when you forget and have to walk back to your room to get it. The actual resort is on the beach which does have lovely views. The pool was ok. The sunbeds were not very nice and the grass area was very poorly looked after. They need to purchase new sun beds or provide cushions to put on the old ones. Would have been nice for bar staff to come round to the sun loungers providing bar service. We certainly would have ordered a lot more drinks. We went out for lunch and dinner every day as the hotel food wasn't great. A short walk down the road and there are plenty of lovely restaurants providing much better food and drinks at a lower cost. Also, there are mini marts and duty free so you can go and buy your own drinks and keep them in the mini fridge in the room, which isn't stocked. We did 1 trip through the tour company at the hotel and it was shockingly awful. It was a boat trip to an island for a day of snorkelling and it was well below standards you would expect from this hotel and the cost of the trip. It was expensive!! It was an hours coach journey to the port, then we were put on an awful ferry where we had to sit breathing in petrol fumes and had cockroaches crawling over our feet for another hour. There were people being sick in bags because it was so rough. We couldn't see anything as we were at the bottom of the boat with tiny windows. I did not feel safe. It was advertised as a catamaran with scenic views. Certainly none of that. We stopped at a platform which would be our base. It was disgusting. The toilets were horrible and no where to wash hands. The food provided was vile and inedible. The snorkelling was ok but limited to where we could go. The glass bottom boat was not working so we couldn't do that. We queued to get a seat in the higher section on the ferry on the way back and it was Calmer but still a few cockroaches crawling around. We decided to get our own taxi back afterwards and save the 1hr coach journey. It was definitely not worth the money and I'm shocked that the hotel would sell this to their customers. We complained as soon as we got back to the hotel and the manager of the tour company said she would look into it. The next day she basically said we were lying because no one else had complained about it. We didn't expect anything from it but it's unfair that the hotel and tour company will continue to sell this product as advertised to something completely different to what it was - a theme by this hotel so it seems. A few other minor issues such as no towels being left one day so we rang reception to ask for some and it took almost 25mins to get to us. The staff were ok, I think the most friendliest were the security staff. I am so disappointed in this hotel as we had saved for a long time and travelled a long way for it. It was very expensive for what it was and I don't want other people wasting their money. The management didn't seem bothered at all about our issues which was a shame. Lots of people were complaining for various reasons whilst we were there too, probably the cost of what they were getting. Major upgrade of the entire hotel is required to continue to charge people huge amounts!!!
We stayed there for 2 nights and enjoyed the stay. Its a nice place with private beach and nice pool. Staff is friendly. The decor of the hotel is nice but a little different that a 5/4 star luxuries. Overall a nice stay close to many eating places within few kms.
If it’s not your first visit in a beach resort, and you have some idea how things should be like, you’ll surely be disappointed. The staff unmotivated attitude, the outdated facilities conditions, and the poor cleaning standards - all will make one wonder why are the prices so high.
