The Datai Langkawi5.0 out of 5.0

We have been living in Shanghai for the last 5 years. Recently we have returned to Singapore and wanted to check out Langkawi Datai. Lo and behold, we were disappointed but eager for the new look. We stayed at the St Regis and drove to see if we could have a sneak peak with a driver called Nazri. A true Kampung boy with Datai in his heart. We met Jessica also walking around with her son and told her that we will be back to Datai. We are now set for the DATAI suite with our 11 year old twin boys in October. We have see all the videos that have been share in You tube from the nature shoots to the training of the staff. We are eager to see the new Datai. We know that it will not disappoint us and we also are considering Datai our second home!! Azri managed our reservations with simplicity and humor. Great start!!!
We stayed at this hotel prior to renovation. It was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable and the hotel has a wow factor throughout. It is set 20-30 minutes drive into a rain forest with its own private sandy white beach. The lobby is open to the elements and serene. The rooms are spacious with walk-in wardrobes and a stunning bath/shower room. Request breakfast in your room - they'll deliver a great selection of food in the finest cutlery. Bath towels and other accessories are luxurious. Because the hotel is set on the edge of a rain forest, you can see amazing wildlife without walking too far. Tip: make sure you lock your balcony doors. Monkeys have been known to open the doors and steal food from your room! They're harmless though. The beach was picturesque. High quality outdoor sofas are placed facing the sea and spaced apart so that you can relax and enjoy the views. Tip: consider hiring your own car - it's very cheap and gives you freedom to travel around the island. Hotel limousine transport is expensive and taxis charge double because the hotel is so secluded.
We stayed for 5 nights in May 2017. We booked one of the rainforest villas it was super luxury huge and very romantic. The bedroom was huge with a king size bed wood floors and a sofa area. Double doors opened to the bathroom also huge with bath and dressing tables either side with separate toilet and shower. There are a number of restaurants we particularly enjoyed the one by the main pool where you have breakfast and the food was European Fusion lovely and Michelin standard there were other good restaurants including a Thai on stilts. The wildlife was superb with monkeys around and beautiful big yellow hornbills. Which just added to the Rainforest setting. The bar overlooking the pool was very beautiful with an impressive pond. We split our time between the main pool and the pool by the beach or on the deserted beach very tranquil. Very good and great service.
The best aspect of the resort is arguably it's location at Datai Bay - a tropical paradise overlooking the Strait of Malacca to Thailand. Explore the jungle with resident naturalist Mr. Irshad Mobarak or swim Datai Bay at night amongst the bioluminescent organisms! I stayed in a Rainforest Villa which provides all the comforts one requires, including a huge bathroom, although some brighter lighting would be preferred (perhaps being attended to during the current renovations). Breakfasts were always a delightful commencement to the day with a good range of buffet and made-to-order dishes. Pleasant dinners were had at The Dining Room and The Gulai House, although be warned exorbitant resort prices are charged (particularly at Gulai House serving local food). The biggest gripe I can think of is that the provided outdoor sandals were quite uncomfortable to wear - hopefully a more comfortable design is forthcoming for the July 2018 reopening. Overall a pleasant stay was had and I would recommend for a resort-style nature getaway. I look forward to returning to the renovated The Datai Langkawi.
This was a working holiday! I know😊 The welcome was amazing and I remember the entrance hall with pond and tiny frogs.... beautiful. The room had amazing views and balcony often monkeys watching in and birds of paradise. Maid service exceptional, exotic flowers on the pillows with cards and illustrations of the flowers names meanings etc, a perfect keepsake I still have. 2 pools a family and adult pool which was perfect. The family one walked straight onto white sands with clear blue waters, spent hours searing for hermit crabs and snorkelling. The staff even bring you cold towels to cool down in the heat and ice cream. They even noted my pale skin and bought more sun lotion to the loungers for myself and children in case we had left ours in the room. Wow Brilliant pool side bar/restaurant with delicious flat stone baked pizza. The children loved it. Given the opportunity I would return in an instance on a leisure break.
Although the Datai Hotel in Langkawi is currently closed for refurbishment it is still one of my favourite hotels in the World. An oasis of peace and quiet with the occasional money on your balcony. Beautiful teak rooms with stunning view of the Andaman sea
If you love nature and the beach, it is the best of both worlds. You get to wake up surrounded by luscious greenery and just a few mins walk/buggy ride to the picturesque beach. Service is amazing and location is very secluded which is perfect if you want to recharge and disconnect from the world. What makes this resort extraordinary and my stay memorable are in the details they put in to everything they offer. This is one of my favourite resorts and will definitely re-visit after the refurbishment.
The Datai review WONDERFUL SECLUSION RAINFOREST PARADISE We still talked about the vacation in The Datai and had such a wonderful time a few days that we were there this Summer of 2017. It’s a bit far from all the other tourist attractions but that turn out to be the best thing that ever happened while you are there. This resort is so secluded and surrounded by the rainforest with small creek and sandy white beaches by the bay. The nature of the flora and fauna is so wonderful to explore and the views and sounds of nature is equally good..There is no need for you to get out of the resort..Trust me…NO NEED at all. It’s the best place to relax and rejuvenate your physical and soul and let it be. No planning your day…just let it flow. Try the nature walks by the resident naturalist Irshad Mubarak. He is so wonderful and get in details about the nature around the resort. I think the best time to do it was in the morning right before you have your breakfast. By the way, the breakfast buffet is full with selections of food. Locals and western favorites. The best breakfast in the hotel that we had ever had. We ended up did a lot of room service order through out the days and its wonderful and tasty as well. As we were check-in, they were offered a welcoming drinks in The Lounge facing the most magnificent views of the resort. You should try the Afternoon Tea at the Lounge. While sipping your tea and desserts in the middle of the rainforest and front facing beaches, you cannot ask for a better view. It rain almost daily while we were there but that doesn’t dampened our experience at all. We had enough sun to enjoy the beach and pools before rain came later in the mid afternoon. Hanging out and just watching and listening to the rain drops was so wonderful in that environment from your own room balcony. We even had fun walking in the rain coming back frm the beach. Truly divine. Our room had the most beautiful views. We enjoyed our morning coffee frm the balcony seating. But you do have to close all windows when you leave the room so the monkeys won’t come inside and steal your food. Which I find kind of cute cause it happened once to us right before we leave. Cheeky monkeys! The white sandy beaches offers a lot of activities and they will rent the water sports equipments to you. We went with our almost 11yrs old son and he had so much fun just hanging out by the beach and play in the water. He also enjoyed the family & kid pool. My husband spend a lot of his time in the adult pool by the Restaurant & Lounge area as well. Through out our visit, we were taken care off so wonderfully by Guest Service Manager, Niv. We had a minor incident with our 1st room, so she moved us to a much nicer room and better view for our trouble. We were so grateful for her hospitality. All the staffs were wonderful as well. We didn’t have any bad experiences during our stay. We were sad to leave when is time and dragging out feet out because we enjoyed it so much there during our short break. That was money well spent for luxury vacation for sure. We were fortunate enough to stay before they closed this property a few months ago for a year of major renovation. We will need to come back and see the changes for sure. So excited for the renovation... and looking forward for it. I’m sure it would even be more FABULOUS!
I stayed at the Datai Langkawi for a total of two nights. There isn't anything bad about this resort really! It's in the middle of nature, is well spread out, and is a perfect resort if you want to stay in, drink and just chill. The location is right at the end of Langkawi, so if you want to get around to do some sightseeing, highly recommend you hire a car. Driving around Langkawi is easy. Checking in was slow and we were given a double bed room despite having asked for single beds. We checked in post 2 PM and lunch took an hour to serve at the coffee shop. Other than that, nothing to complain about. All standard size rooms are huge, big enough for an extra bed. The beach access is excellent, the beach house is a separate unit with a great pool and access to the Datai bay with stunning views. This is a short buggy ride away from the main hotel. The staff is extremely helpful. The restaurants have a good selection of sea food. Dress code is strict though. Don't go in shorts and swim suits! All non alcoholic drinks in the mini bar are complimentary! They also have a tie up with the Andaman Hotel which is right next door. Please do try the Jala restaurant at the Andaman. This was the best sea food I had in Malaysia. The produce was fresh, the wine list was awesome, and the restaurant is on the beach. Really awesome . Ask them for recommendations on what to eat and you won't be disappointed. If you want to live in extra luxurious space, book a rainforest villa. It comes with its own private pool. You may find that the Datai is a tad bit more expensive than other properties in this area, it is totally worth it though. If you are travelling with an elderly person, getting around this place may be problematic. I loved my stay at the Datai! Stayed here in September 2017 and it was a very memorable stay in one of the beach villas. We are a family of 4 with two young children and they made the room so we all fitted in nicely without falling over each other as the rooms are large. I like the idea of having a separate lounge area to sit and chat/eat if the children are in bed in the bedroom a few steps away. The room was well appointed, with everything you need. The butler that we had was very friendly, helpful, kind and always only a few minutes away. The hotel facilities are lovely, but we stayed in the last weekend before they closed to refurbish the main hotel and rooms, so cant wait to see them in 2018 when they open again as we will definitely return. The staff are all wonderful, service is something that this hotel really gets right in all aspects! The beach is clean, quiet, great for children to enjoy and the activities are all included so we had a great time with the children trying everything. I loved our stay here and would definitely recommend it to all wanting a to stay in a slice of heaven away from the hustle and bustle or life! Golf cart transport around the resort made it easy for the parts that were a bit further away, but some were close enough to walk if you wish. Loved our stay - thank you we will return!
