The last time we stayed was 15 years ago, and we loved it then. From the moment of arrival in the beautiful lobby, our memories came flooding back and we were not not be disappointed this time either. The restaurants are superb - we ate in the Thai, Malay/Indian, and the beach restaurant - and the food was top notch in all. We had spa treatments in the wonderfully natural spa, with the mountain water running its course through the estate to the sea. The treatments were world class. I played golf at the magnificent Els Golf Course - although I should say that there is room for improvement here. The course itself was in average condition, and the greens are far too slow. I hired rental clubs, which were old and poor. And, thankfully, I booked to play after 3pm which entitled me to the cheaper twilight rate - golfers should be made aware of this, as golf is super expensive. Also, we played tennis at the courts which are located at the club house. The courts are in poor condition. We spent our days at the beach club, which is fabulous. Very chilled, with stacks of free water activities. And constant freebie offerings - water, fruit, ice cream, afternoon drinks - always well received by a Yorkshireman! Lunch there was always prompt and actually not bad value. On our day of check-out, we were given a hospitality room which turned out to be a suite. A fab touch to end our holiday. When I was paying the bill, the chap at the desk asked me when would visit again - I told him that we defo will after the refurb which starts next month. He informed me that things will improve a lot, with all staff being kept employed during the 10-month refurb process, and will get re-trained to provide better hospitality. I really am not sure how they can improve! The attention to detail and service levels are second to none. We will be back!!

We had a fantastic family holiday here this August, spending 10 nights in a rain forest villa. The hotel is breathtakingly beautiful and looks like something out of a movie. Set in the natural surroundings within an established rainforest. The nature was amazing with monkeys, hornbills and other nature a daily sight. The people were amazing and the service was faultless. You will read about a refurbishment happening in October. Don't let that put you off or worry you if you are going before that. Breakfast was delicious and catered for every taste and the Thai and Malaysian restaurants expensive but deliciousness. Nothing was too much trouble. My kids had a mindblowingly brilliant time too. It's safe and the water sports had kayaks and paddle boards that they could go out on. Free nature walks and guides were great for the kids too. 7 nights probably would have been enough for us but I would unreservedly return. Paradise. Go.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Datai. Being surrounded by the lush rainforest and also the pristine beach made our holiday really memorable. The resort is lovely and the service is really good too.

We stayed for two weeks & this is our second visit, the last being 14 years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed this resort from our pick up service at the airport, continuing throughout our stay. Exactly what we needed, relaxing resort, great food selection, attentive service for the whole of our stay. We stayed in a rainforest Villa & felt quite relaxed from hearing the stream flowing below to the monkeys on our balcony to the sounds of the rainforest. We dined at all the restaurants from the Beach Pavilion Restaurant, Dining Room, Thai Restaurant & the Gulai house at least twice or more at each restaurant. We flew two of my sisters up from KL for a treat at Datai for the weekend & they were blown away & left with memories to treasure. We cannot start to thank all the staff at the Datai that made our holiday such a memorable one once again. Jennie from reception that checked us in, she was so gracious as we had a long flight getting to the Datai from New Zealand, our room was not ready but she made us feel comfortable at the lounge with a drink, cold towels & a snack. Breakfast: We need to mention the exceptional service of all staff but in particular Nicholas ( Italian Rest. Manager ) & Logan who were so attentive at all times, we felt very special & nothing was an issue. Always smiling & heartfelt service was offered. Beach: Wow!! Amazing staff once again, we spent quite a bit of our time at the beach, with lunch & cocktails. Must mention the guys who will always be remembered are Daba, Suhan, Ali & Shamimi. We did not lift a finger as they looked after us so well. Cold water, towels, fruit, ice-cream, taste of cocktails not to mention face sprays & cleaning of sunglasses. Phew!! Simply amazing. Also, was fortunate enough to meet the Aussie Chef Richard & F&B Director Indra, who was always around making sure our stay was going well & any special requests was always looked after with such professionalism. Every single staff member must be applauded as because of their attention to detail, friendly smile & can do attitude is why we keep returning & next time with our family & friends. It was hard to leave after two weeks of pure bliss. We look forward to returning once refurbishments are complete mid 2018. We only left the resort once to go to the cable car at Gunung Cincang, which was quite spectacular & recommend going first thing in the morning. Cooler & less people. The Datai is quite secluded & private so in other words travelling into town etc. at least 30-45mins. Played four rounds of golf at the International standard ELS golf course down the road. What a magnificent Course with stunning views in the middle of the rainforest. I have played golf all around the world & always travel with my clubs to destinations with golf courses & felt really lucky to play on this course. Tough but challenging course without any bunkers. Golf in the afternoon gives you the chance to see more wildlife, they appear later in afternoon & it is also not so hot. Caddies are excellent with a well stocked pro shop & a lovely club house to have lunch or drinks before & after a game. Well, overall this Paradise called the Datai Langkawai & Els Golf Course is so special & only needs to be experienced to understand the overall beauty of this place. We shall definitely return.

This has been a nostalgic visit. We have been to The Datai since our little one was 2 years old. Our last visit though was 6 years ago, just now since we moved to SG. The place remains enchanting and beguiling. The staff friendly as ever. The villa was as beautiful as ever. The food from The Gulai House to the The Beach Club was as good as we remembered. Though the Dinning Room and Beach Club for dinner serves similar type of food. The management used to be stricter on people that smoked at the beach and Dining Room, but what a shame the rule has now been relaxed. Sitting at the bar a few days ago, the kitchen even made us my daughter's all time Datai favourite at lunchtime - fish fingers. We will be back next year when it re-opens. I hope at that what it is that has made The Datai so unique, so beguiling will not be lost, merely enhanced. To our family The Datai is synonymous as Langkawi.

Excellent facilities and enjoyable experince. Will come back again. It was well situated and for from town. We hired a car and drove around other attractions around. Nature walks in the mornings and evenings were very informative. Staff are very friendly everywhere in the resort.

The Resort is perfect Service is absolutely fantastic, every guest is more than a VIP and all this hotel is about details If you have one resort in the world to try, is this one Chocolate evening near your pillow are delicious as the croissant and the Danish pastry at the breakfast Recommended the beach restaurant, hangyu meat from Japan or pasta, the chef is a master About Spa, you may absolutely try this, relaxed by the rainforest sound and the river in front of the bed massage you can choose with 3 essential Oil, and all are fabulous I hope you will enjoyed as me this place

The Hotel is located surrounded by the rainforest and have a private swiming pool and also a private beach. room clean and amazing with many facility. Butler service is very good. Credit to Mr Hisham and Rona. Wifi need to improve because can not be used. Overall a very relaxing stay.

It is unusual to have both rainforest and beach experience but Datai Langkawi offers both. Lovely place, although you see many people during breakfast - I hardly bump into anyone throughout the day. I would return and perhaps stay in their private beach villa next.

Super relaxed and great service. Rooms are authentic, not most modern but it fits the entourage and colonial style. Great beach and seperate kids pool close to beach. You can use all kinds of watersports for free. Restaurant were good value but not exceptional. Watch out for snakes under your poolbed :-)
