I'm sorry to write this because the hotel has a good location with nice view. But the rooms have a very bad isolated door. You hear people talking (understanding their conversation) and when they put the key into the lock for opening their door. And I suggest you to put a second door (you have the space to do it on the outside, on the big frame). The windows offer a good isolation, no noice. The mattresses (we had 3 different rooms during our stay) are very hard, and the pillow are too thin. During the first night we had some loud noice from the water pipe. So we changed room at 01,00! But the second room we had was booked for the second night so we had to change (ok that can happen) Next day the girl at the reception couldn't understand I was a little bit dissapointed about these problems. By the way she was doing something else while I talked to her, and then she said: we have no rooms free. I said: there are many on internet! She said no again. And then I asked to speak with the manager who fixed everything very nicely, but the girl told him she never told me it was full.... Arriving at the breakfast 10,20 (it's open 7-11) we couldn't choose the table because they wanted to prepare for the lunch! He preferred us to sit against one wall instead of a free, see wive table. I said no way. I'm very surprised about these 2 persons. I don't think they understand that they work in a 4* hotel and the guest pays very expensive for the confort. So if I write this, it's to help them and the hotel to get better.
Smallish room but with quaint little wrought iron balcony just big enough with two chairs and a little table to enjoy the superb view and weather, over a coffee/glass of wine. Don’t get a room not facing the lake as you’ll be missing having your breath being taken away. The room was clean and in good order as was the bathroom, with every convenience we could possibly need. The charming, friendly, informed and smiling service followed us from reception to bar to restaurant to our inquiries, to the spa and wellness. The massage and my wife’s manicure and pedicure were again just excellent. The wellness area is a bit compact but modern, spotlessly clean and to the point in its choice of sauna, relaxation and pools. The large dining room at the front is the one to eat in, dating back to the late 19th century, huge elegant windows, candelabra, effective decor, high ceiling and tables on a raised gallery all with that stunning view, and that service with creative well presented food - and so nicely lit at night...this is really rather fine dining. Yes, we will be back.
When you enter the lobby, your first impression is that you've just entered a very classy house in your sweaty cycling shirts and shorts. However you'll soon realize that no one minds at all and the garage already held the bikes from various other guests. Rooms offer great views across the lake. Just be aware that the top floor rooms have rather small windows in the dormers somewhat limiting the view. So rather jump over to the excellent wellness area with great views from saunas and the terrace. Perfect relaxation after a day of riding. Restaurant was great, and while staff here seemed to be overloaded, this was due to the fact that everybody from the lake terrace just moved inside to escape a thunderstorm going down. Great breakfast buffet too with a tremendous choice.
Booked two rooms with balcony and lake view - as a direct booker offered one glas of chamapagne for both of us. Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and dinner, very reasonable wine prizes for Switzerland. Hotelrooms are clean and turn-down always perfect with a little suprise in form a chocolate. Nice small flower arrangement. For my taste I would prefer wooden floor instaed of carpet but this is a personal question of taste. Thanks for very good hospitality.
We stayed two nights . Our room had beautiful view of lake . Hotel staff was polite and explained about different area of hotel . Bed was very comfortable . It is close to station .. I would say walkable distance . Boat dock is just few steps away from hotel . I would definitely love to stay again in the future .
If you look for a stylish hotel right at the lake with great view and a history of famous people like Winston Churchill and others staying. That's they place to pick and book. It all comes the typical Swiss way with various restaurants a bar and a nice breakfast buffet, fresh fruits all day at no cost. The rooms are nice and just ok in size. Don't forget we talk about a century old hotel. You will love it!
I visited the lakeside restaurant for lunch on a Sunday. The place has a nice view over the lake and seems popular. The food was ok, however the service was exceptionally slow and disorganized. It appeared that some had given up on waiting for their order and had left, so waitresses were not able to find those whose orders they finally brought.
We have stayed here before and enjoyed our time very much. It is a comfortable hotel and is a brilliant location for visiting many beautiful places in Central Switzerland. One joy is fresh fruit on each landing - a lovely example of Swiss service. On this occasion, we came for dinner on Swiss National Day to be there to watch the massive fireworks display on the lake in front of the hotel. The food was delightful, the service was immensely thoughtful and provided for our family needs. In the event, the rain was very heavy and the staff organised for all diners to watch the fireworks from the first floor balcony.
Queen Victoria said that the Brunnen area is the most beautiful place in the world. Winston and Clementine Churchill came here on honeymoon in 1910. Princes and dukes all chose the Walderstaetterhof. This is a gracious, marvellous hotel superbly run. House staff are excellent. The room was perfectly maintained. Restaurant staff are highly profesional and attentive. Our room faced the lake. Mere words are insufficient to desribe the beauty which greets one each morning The hotel is also ideal for families with young childen. A minute away from this hotel is a marvellous playground for children, including Lake Lucerne's own version of the Loch Ness Monster! Swimmers can also enjoy the hotel's own private lido. The waters of the lake are cool and smooth and oh so clean!
